The talent of Aya Hirano

I'm not a fan of Aya Hirano. While I think she's talented, I'm just not swept away by her voice acting the way I am by, say, Shizu-sama or Maaya Sakamoto. That said, I have enjoyed her work as Haruhi Suzumiya (megalomania ♥) and Shizu Shidou (Ijimekko~~) but, to date, my Top Favourite Aya Hirano role has to be Konata where she really made the role her own, conveying the chara's distinctive blend of otaku passion, family/friendship love power and :3

Aya-hatred will be proof of her talent if she continues to grow and prosper in spite/because of it. Another Ogiue lesson is applicable in Aaya's case methinks:

Real talent doesn't admit defeat after one little beating. If she truly does have talent, then the talent will show itself no matter how many beatings she takes. She's gotta be ready to be hated, beaten down, crushed and forgotten.

Ueda Kana as Fukuzawa Yumi is yuriliciously uke

Am I the only one to think that Yumi's intro lines for the OP of the fourth season of Maria-sama ga Miteru contained a hint of her kansai accent? Perhaps it's because I've read Erica's notes on the 18th MariMite novel where the author, Konno Oyuki, has Yumi say something in Kansai ben and then wonder why she did that. It's a glorious and generous nod from the creator of the MariMite universe; Ueda Kana richly deserves such acknowledgment as she has well-and-truly made Yumi's role her own.

Driving force not to blame for vehicle breakdown

Evirus' puzzlement about the lack of a category for Ouran Host Club in hontou ni sou omou? is now a matter to be addressed in the past tense. I vaguely remember dropping Ouran very late in the series. That was unusual, for me, because, usually, if I had watched so much of a series, I tend to hang on to the bitter end.

It wasn't so much the slump, noted by Kabitzin (though he did enjoy it overall) and Ender, that got to me but a growing frustration from how I felt the characters' relationships did not grow as much as I felt they could. But it's been two years already and my memories are foggy. Checking back on my CD-Rs, DVD-Rs and external HDD, I have found that I didn't even keep a copy of the series. Wow, I must have been really quite frustrated with it.

Of course, Maaya Sakamoto was not to blame. I agree completely with Evirus' observation that the series would not have worked without her: 'Rich bastards!!'

Voice of the Oneecon Generation: Kotono Mitsuishi as Misato Katsuragi

Given my good bro Stripey's penchant for lists promoting his goth-loli-siscon fetish, it's time to strike back! However, instead of an attempt at a list, this is a rather more narrow attempt to gush about a particular seiyuu's role of an Onee-type character.

Given my recent fapping post about Evangelion 1.01, I have rediscovered how much I enjoyed Kotono Mitsuishi's good job as Misato Katsuragi. And another excuse to make Misato screencaps. :P

Minorin Contacted

I can't help but feel that there's considerable irony in how Minori Chihara's singing career was given a considerable boost by the popularity of her role as Yuki Nagato in The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. After all, Yuki was a 'silent character' and not an inconsiderable number of fans, whom I disagree with, felt that Minorin's rendition of the chara songs were, well, not very Yuki.
