Evangelion 2.0 @ the movies with Wife-chan
“I thought Evangelion was all about Rei?”, quipped Wife-chan when I confessed to possible defection to the Rei camp after catching Eva 2.0. Yeah, Zyl would surely approve. Bishoujo allegiances aside, the occasional glimpses into Wife chan’s 2D perceptions were both enlightening and intimidating (Intimidating because I’m now not so certain house chores is ALL she’s doing as I blatantly drool over the 2D bishoujos in the living room.). Enlightening since her non-fan perspective coupled with fearsome woman intuition could be very revealing. I particularly enjoyed her point about Asuka having a better figure than Rei.
“Asuka’s butt is more pert.” She asserted. Her claim makes me want to catch the movie again. Well at least we both agree that -
1) It should be made criminal for 14 yr olds to have such figures.
2) Mari has the best figure in the movie.
The long road to Suzumiya Haruhi no Gensou
All anime roads take me home / to the place, where I belong / Evangelion, Ayanami Rei / Take me, anime roads~ I vaguely remember that how hearing Bach's Air on a String, Pachelbel's Canon in D, Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B minor on the Evangelion OSTs (particularly Death and Rebirth) sparked a mini-classical music boom, as evidenced by the purchases of cello-centric CDs on the left column.
Watching Nodame Cantabile has re-ignited that interest, causing me to dig out all my classical music CDs from the aforementioned era. In general, anime fandom - especially when characterized as otaku - tends to focus on obsession with anime to the exclusion of everything else (including other stuff at the base of Maslow's hierarchy), for me, in the course of anime, I've listened to more classical music than I otherwise would have if I had not watched anime. Likewise, learning the basics of photography because of an interest in figurine photography (okay, inheriting a Nikon D200 with 18/200 VR lens was the biggest spur though). Or read a Chinese weiqi beginner's manual from cover to cover, even though I hate reading in Chinese, because of Hikaru no Go. Or to take a basic course in Japanese language over a lazy but definitely finite and not repeated undergraduate summer. All in all, being an anime fan has enriched my life in some unexpected ways; would love to hear from readers about your experiences in this respect too.
Petit Eva ~ Evangelion@School 17-24

While trainspotting, Kensuke meets train rider Touji and joins him. Meido Hikari also comes onboard later. Touji returns Chibinami's lolipop after they run over the candy-snatching Shamsel who is then made into a new toy by Rei 2.
Just *what* is that furry one-eyed giant who turns anti-social people into the little turds that they really are!? We so need one of those in our glorious democratic peoples' island paradise republic - though the side effect is that the streets will probably be utterly covered in shyte for a while.
Petit Eva ~ Evangelion@School 10-16

Going to School. Rei's morning routine is surprisingly manic in a LOL sort of way. She goes to school but it isn't there but finally she presses the button that summons it out of the ground, unknowingly rescuing a bird crap encumbered Shinji along the way. So seriously weird shyte in these clips 10-24 were produced by XEBEC.
Petit Eva ~ Evangelion@School 1-9

No need for subs to watch Puchi Eva - because there is no dialogue! (Well, maybe just for the titles of each clip.) First clip is Lunch Time where Unit One aka Evanchou (the banchou of the school orz) and Shinji exchange lunches, loved the way the former arrived on scene. Which culminates in Shinji having to excrete batteries. Don't try this at home, kids!
Decking the Bitchy One

In response to the ransom note, here's a head-on shot of the Rei versus Asuka drawing. I bought it at the Otakon 2000 Artists' Gallery; can't remember who was the artist and certainly can't decipher the signature - if anyone knows, please let me know so I can credit the artist. Sorry I don't have time to scan it especially since it's A3-sized, the lamination is troublesome and my scanner ain't all that great either.
Because it wasn't 'Fly Me To The Moon'

Other than fapping a lot, I also remembered enjoying the Evangelion 1:01 ED a lot. 'Wow! Was this sung by one of the seiyuu?' Rather, Studio Khara had got the Beautiful World track off Utada Hikaru's Heart Station album. This has been a strange return to Hikki fandom for me...
It's only love (for Rei)

One of my earliest posts grumbled about how blatantly the Evangelion cash cow has been milked long after the series first aired. And grumbles more about how I'm such a sucker, falling for it all the time and even after all this time. When Rebuild was announced, I was saying to myself: Never again!
But, lo and behold, after fapping to watching Evangelion 1.01, I also ordered the Limited Edition, following the fine example of fellow bloggers like Kurogane and double. At least he got Misato. I've just gotten some random explosion, after a long wait because Play Asia only shipped in July and I only collected from the delivery address in late September.
The burst of nostalgia even motivated me (with added push of RightStuf sales prices) to buy the DVD Platinum Complete Collection. orz
But, of course, the real reason is seeing, but also just as importantly, hearing Rei again.
An Evergreen Retro Anime Shipment

First anime DVD purchase (from The Right Stuf International, who else?
) for this year. In contrast to my 2007 purchases, this batch consists of shows that first aired back in the ancient times: 1995 (Slayers, Evangelion), 1996 (Nadesico, Slayers Next) and 1997 (Slayers Try).
Voice of the Oneecon Generation: Kotono Mitsuishi as Misato Katsuragi

Given my good bro Stripey's penchant for lists promoting his goth-loli-siscon fetish, it's time to strike back! However, instead of an attempt at a list, this is a rather more narrow attempt to gush about a particular seiyuu's role of an Onee-type character.
Given my recent fapping post about Evangelion 1.01, I have rediscovered how much I enjoyed Kotono Mitsuishi's good job as Misato Katsuragi. And another excuse to make Misato screencaps.
