2009 Moment of Anime 2: End of KugiRie Hate (But Still Full of Hatred)
And so I finally managed to let go of my prejudice against loli tsundere characters voiced by Kujimiya Rie. Thank you, Taiga! Thank you, (post Rainy Blue) Touko!
Winter 09 :: tis the Good Ends season for KugiRie tsunderes
Well well well, what a pair of pleasant surprises. I tend to apply heavy discounts against series starring Kugimiya Rie tsundere characters due to, among other things, the tendency to take two steps forward and one step back (or more). But I actually enjoyed the endings for ToraDora! (Aye: Totali and Kurogane | Somewhat dissenting opinion: Aroduc) and the fourth season of MariMite and, what's more, found myself cheering on KugiRie charas that I had previously disliked.
Prior to Ami's appearance, Taiga reminded me of all the worst characteristics of J.C. Staff KugiRie loli-tsunderes, particularly ZnT Season 2's Louise whose behaviour rubs off very very badly against my own personal traumas. From the Rainy Blue arc in MariMite, I began to associate hair drills with evil, bratty Ojousama type charas and so I had been rooting for Kanako over Touko this season even though it was hopeless in view of the determinism of the ED.
But I had to change the way I thought of Taiga and Touko after seeing other sides to them, such as Taiga's Christmas good girl mode and Touko's dedication to her craft in drama. After learning more about their personal family histories. After seeing how the people around them were changed by and changed along with them.

If Subaru was anything like Mami, she would really do well in the senior ranks of the TSAB; you need to be a cunning little raccoon dog ("chibi tanuki" was what Major Nakajima called her after realizing how he'd been manoeuvred by her) to survive there, like Hayate - was what I found myself thinking as I watched the negotiation, about the Card Treasure Hunt, between the Yamayurikai and Lilian Newspaper in Ep 10.
I've long wondered: Why does the Mistress of the Night Sky require a whole phalanx of guardian knights when she's rated SS?

Thus, in Episode 3, spoke Kanako unto Yumi:
Before, I told you a hypothetical story about the two twins who became astronauts and went to Mars, didn't I? ... I can't meet the Yumi-sama I had admired. That person is living on Mars. Yumi-sama, you didn't betray the image and feelings I had of you. When I was reunited with Yuuko-senpai, I realized that she might have been like those twins. The senpai I used to admire is alive on Mars right now... She's at the same place as Yumi-sama.
Yumi found it romantic but I thought it ever so slightly scary. Go Kanako! A place in Hosaka's Valhalla awaits you!
Numbering MariMite
Do OVA releases count as a season? So long there is a TV/cable broadcast? It's officially called Season Four. So why, in the OP credits, is the production committee number is 3? *needless fidgeting*
