Anime BGMs :: Non-Mio headphone test drive

I'm still learning to get the best out of my recently acquired ATH-ANC7. For starters, turning on noise cancelling for a fuller sound, regardless of background noise, bears out a common theme in the reviews. Also an excuse to post about the medley of favourite anime BGM tracks which I used for the headphone test drive as well as an aural pick-me-up. I have even less musical knowledge compared to dear sweet slothy Yui so corrections and level-ups will be much appreciated.

Ginme no Majo (Masanori Takumi | Claymore)

This background music track always reminds me Galatea's deliciously wicked musing as she walked off into the darkness of the forest towards the end of Ep 11. And also when Riful intervened against Jean's attempt coup de grace against Duff.

The dramatic drum beats right at the start are a great hook, thereafter the strings carried me to the embarking on a new adventure, announced by a triumphant brass section. The stirrings of mystery and conspiracy are heralded by piano keys against a background of bass notes and eerie synthetic animal-like calls. The various sounds come together, moving in and out, building into a crescendo that made such a great background to the above-mentioned scenes.

♥ing the heartless

I found myself belatedly developing an interest for and liking of Ryoko Asakura after the initial airing of Haruhi. It had been sparked off by the yuri content of Ryoko's creepy stalker Shizuru-like crush on Yuki in the fourth novel, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya but continued to grow with exposure to Stripey's fanboying.

The critical limit of self-awareness was finally breached when I found myself purchasing a few Ryoko doujins and the Ryoko chara-CD (not to mention browsing of numerous Yuki x Ryoko doujins at ComiKet 72).

Claymore: Big Sword for the Big Sister

I'll just dip my toe into the minefield that is the debate whether the ending was the suck or not before getting to the main point of this post. I haven't read the manga so perhaps ignorance is bliss - I didn't think the ending was that bad though I completely agree that Raki was so annoying and would have cheered if he had been put onboard the Nice Boat.

My main dilemma, though, was: Who was my favourite Claymore-oneesama, Miria or Galatea?

Fool Metal Zaku Fufufu in Nakano

On Day Two of the Tokyo expedition, this Zaku took it easy. Slept in to nurse my worn out leg servos and gyros, blogged yesterday's happenings before having lunch with an old university friend and only after that did I launch off towards Nakano Broadway via the Tozai line. Less photographs than yesterday because of the high staff to area ratio, making it much harder to get away with snapping close-up pictures of stuff and thus having a high risk of breaking the 11th Commandment.

Claymore 11

[ claymore11_00.jpg title="I've got all my yuri love to give" img removed ]

While Clare's firm resolve is cute in a Loveably Stupid Saber sort of way, I just couldn't help but imagine her being chased through the streets by Gloria Gaynor a la Ally McBeal (youtube).

Claymore 1-4

Enjoying this series very much at the moment. Not least because of Clare-nee and the importance of dietary fibre. Yet I can't help but suspect that I would enjoy this series soooo much more if Lucky was a girl instead and addressed Clare as "Oneesama~~~ ♥" :3

Claymore 01

The stars are shifting in the Hontouni universe. Zyl blogs about To Heart 2 and Stripey falls in love with an onee-type character. (I'm just waiting for someone to accuse my good brother of being a siscon albeit the shota-siscon variant given his penchant for older sisters.) Frequent readers of Hontou ni Taihen desu may be disappointed with the lack of goth-loli-meido-siscon (imouto sect) fetishings in this post. But the womanly gar-ness of Clare and winsome-ness of Claymore need to be proclaimed.

I have great faith in Madhouse action. Black Lagoon, X TV, Jubei chan 2, Gungrave, Lodoss War, Tenjou Tenge and Ninja Scroll (movie) contain some of my favourite fighting scenes in anime. But their animation strength is not limited to beautiful battle choreography or cinematography (which even GONZO is sometimes capable of). Madhouse's true strength, or so I like to think, lies in their characters. My beef with most anime series is their soul-less characters, often given away by out-of-character chatter, pointless prattle or banal course of actions. For convincing character behaviour/response, it needs to flow naturally from a credible reaction of circumstances and character disposition/background/motivation. It's ironic but our unfeeling half-yoma Clare has got more soul than some politicians in this country. Kudos to Kuwashima Houko for balancing so perfectly the humanity and yoma that is both Clare.

Of course besides the beautifully crafted onee-character and stylish action, I'm also drawn by the promise of more humongous swords and ornate plate armours. A residual passion from my dice-rolling, paper and pen AD&D days I suppose. Yes, before Stripey, the goth-loli-meido-imouto-loving tanuki, there was ****** the Paladin and Zyl was our omnipotent Dungeon Master. Fortunately for Soumou readers and selected Lunamaria figures, he has retired and is now a shadow of the deity he once was. XD Ah well, we all grow out of our manhood/divinehood sometime. I can already sense that Claymore, specifically Clare, would be restoring some manliness to this once-glorious-paladin-turned-tanuki.

Now if you'd excuse me, I have sword practice with Fate-chan, Saika san and Yumil tan.
