Railgun 10

Revenge is a dish best served secretlyWhy, of all times, is Oneesama touching me now when I'm injured? In Uiharu we trust... maybe...

Summary:

After Uiharu downloaded the Level Upper song, I had to deal with more rampaging students so I asked her to get the file to Kiyama-sensei and liaise with her hereon. The increase in cases is ridiculous! As a result of the increased caseload, I got more my wounds that Uiharu treated and we discussed how we need to stop Level Upper's spread, revive the unconscious users and capture whoever made it. I narrowly managed to avert being seen by Oneesama in such a pitiful state. We briefed her on what Kiyama-sensei had told us about how the Testament machine could level up an Ability user through electrical signals to the brain via the five senses. However the Level Upper mp3 is just limited to SOUND ONLY but Oneesama revived the Canaan idea.

We later received the news that Saten-san had also used the Level Upper and had fallen unconscious. Uiharu had, of course, gone to Kiyama-sensei's office to analyze the data to look for a cure. Oneesama asked to talk and we went to the roof garden where she told me about how Saten-san had got the charm from her mother, about how she felt she had been callous about the Levels despite them being a huge obstacle for many. She asked to help out in the investigation, to help save Saten-san. Later in the hospital corridor, Dr Real Gekota told us about how the victims of the Level Upper are all having their brain wave patterns manipulated by that of a single person. Unfortunately we weren't able to do the analysis as Uiharu was not at the 177 Branch office but Konori-senpai had access to the necessary data. She also drew the analogy of the Level Upper being a network; the search results showing Kiyama Harumi as the common link. With Konori-senpai's approval, Oneesama was raring to charge out and I tried to curb her enthusiasm but she realized I was injured and was very very Oneesama.

Reaction:

WRT Keiri's discussion of two points of anime original material in this episode. First - where Oneesama "regretted unintentionally hurting Saten’s feelings and realized that not everyone shares the kind of talent and determination she has." It's just the nature of the rat race, as Kurata told Akira in Hikaru no Go: "We are always looking up, chasing after the top that we don't see the people behind us." Our little talk showed how close Oneesama and I are - she hasn't been able to talk to Saten-san like the way she can with me.

Second - Keiri also preferred my "more subdued response", compared to the manga version. Likewise Washi felt that, taken together, the "few moments they shared together here conveyed more about their relationship than all of the silliness of prior episodes combined." Everyone will eventually come around and support our love!

And everyone wants to know if the flowers in Uiharu's hair have anything to do with her Ability. But I'm not telling. ;-3

  1. Uiharu’s never gonna use her ability, is she… >_>

anyway, Kiyama’s really gone up a few notches in my book. CREATED THE EFFIN LEVEL UPPAH. FUDGE YEAR

  2. Kuroko-samaaaaa~!! If you know something about Uiharu’s powers, please give us a hint! The author and producers are being big teasers about it! The omakes aren’t helping either coz they’re contradicting what the producers said!
JK. Guess it’s more exciting if we wait for it to pop up in the manga later. ;)

Hmm… Interesting analogy about the status of espers in Academy City being likened to a rat race. It does make sense wrt how people’s perspective changes once they’re in a different stage from others, especially if they’re already way ahead in the race.

  3. Isn’t Uiharu a Level 2 in th manga (while being a Level 1 in the anime)?

It does drive me crazy, itching like bugs on brain, as to what her Ability is but I suppose it’s also a great way to stir up the fanbase and maintain interest in the franchise by leaving these types of things up for speculation.

re: rat race – Mikoto’s story also makes me think about that a whole bunch of business school/self help stuff about how successful people who have always been successful are at the most danger of failing big time when they finally do hit the wall. In a way, Touma has been good at preparing her for something that her powers cannot help her against.

  4. I agree about the role Touma played in Mikoto’s life. He is partly responsible for her diverse creativity in using her powers after all. I’d like to think he was the one who made Mikoto come up with the idea of using iron sand as bladed weapons for example, even though that may not be the case in the first place.

Regarding Uiharu’s Level, my awful memory can’t seem to recall where it was mentioned in the manga that she is a Level 2. Probably my eyes overlooking finer details again. @_@
