Kampfer 06

Summary:
Natsuru awakes to the scent of curry being served by nude apron Kondou Mikoto. They are joined by Akane while waiting for the bus but she beats a hasty retreat in the face of childhood friend power. Mikoto has read about female Natsuru in the school newspaper and pesters him about his love life. After she pets him, his braclet suddenly glows and afer his transformation is promptlys shanghaied, by his class committee, to work in their Cultural Festival meido-like cafe.
After a close encounter with Higashida, the VIP guest Shizuku arrives and after teasing Natsuru, mentions the arrival of a new Kampfer. At Shizuku's earlier invitation, Sakura joins them and the former starts to talk about all the Kampfer traits and tries to bait Sakura using Natsuru's insight about the Entrails Animals link. She goes on to suggest a kiss but Natsuru manages to get Sakura to change it to a date for the rest of the day. Just as Sakura goes over to greet a friend, Natsuru spots a light haired girl staring at him. While in a House of Horrors, someone is constantly taking pot shots at Natsuru which Sakura remains oblivious to.
Natsuru spots and chases after the new Red Team katana-wielding Kampfer. Even without having seen the OP, Natsuru quickly realizes the true identity of her attacker. Kampfer Akane enjoins the fight which Natsuru breaks up with a Zauber blast, telling Mikoto to stop. She is immobilized by team mate Shizuku who tells the Blue Team to change back and is so shocked that she passes out. Mikoto's messenger is Choking Stray Dog with Noto Mamiko's voice. Shizuku proposes a truce for the time being because she wants to find out something. Natsuru goes back for Sakura and finds her on the rooftop. To make up for breaking her promise not to let go of her hand, Sakura asks Natsuru to spend the night with her.
Reaction:
I detect an air of menace as Shizuku makes her move to investigate Sakura's link to the Moderators - she seems to be the type who will kill Sakura if it suits her purposes. It might all be Natsuru's fault for delivering the epiphany to her but even though correlation is not proof of causation, it's a little surprising that Shizuku hadn't figured that out on her own before that. Also interesting how everyone else acquiesced in her truce proposal. Certainly the common interest is curiosity about why they are fighting and who are pulling the strings but I guess it also helps that everyone has a crush as the chief pacifist.
The date between Natsuru and Sakura was really sweet with all its delightful ordinariness. But Sakura is also no wallflower. The way she calmly thanked the house of horror actors immediately after realizing that Natsuru had taken off indicates to me that she had, as Natsuru suspected, planned the whole thing with her friend's help - chansu to get clingy with her yuri knight in blue!
What Others Are Saying:
- Aroduc mentions how "the reveal of Mikoto as the new kampfer was a little needlessly drawn out" - wasn't the point more about the reveal of Natsuru and Akane to Mikoto instead?
- divine is "so convinced this will just be another missed opportunity" - as am I - by the spoilerific preview which makes it clear that the cliffhanger request will, of course, end up as a group pajama party. Am I more disappointed by the lack of teasing or relieved by the expectation management?
- When Aizen said: "I like how Natsuru looks here", I knew exactly what he meant. Looking at that photo, I felt the twin warring urges, between petting (~yosh yosh~) and bullying (Dammit, you're such a clumsy maid!) Natsuru.

Hahahaha, when I saw Akane hiding behind that pole I thought the exact same thing. “Where’s the reserved for Yoshida sign?”

Pole-stalking is such a classic trope but Shana-tan is so brilliant that it’s ended up owning it in my mind!

I wonder why you’re so negative-suspicious of Shizuku ^_^;
In truth, she is exceptionally protective of her osananajimi Kaede. In the manga, she got really mad and was about to skewer Akane for threatening Kaede. Go through the manga scanlations, I’d say. It might give you an additional perspective (especially on the darker subplots which have been kept out of the anime so far)

Gosh, Stripey tells me that I’m too negative quite a lot too. ):
You’ve certainly piqued my interest in the manga but I will start reading the manga after I’ve finished watching the anime – if it affects my interpretation, that will provide material for a manga vs anime review post.

Well, I can sorta see where you’re coming from. Shizuku tends to keep a rather cool head, which can sometimes be interpreted as being cold-blooded. She seems like she wouldn’t put it past her friend of 6+ years to keep her completely in the dark and play act like she didn’t know anything about the Kampfers. I still don’t think she’d have it in her to actually kill Kaede, even if she was the mastermind behind it all. She’s strong willed and has a cool head, but I don’t think she’s nearly as cold-blooded as she seems. Although if it turns out I’m wrong I’ll be an even bigger fan than I already am :3

I mean, it’s perfectly fine to dislike or distrust her, it’s just so surprising, since in almost all other cases your taste in characters closely resembles mine. Therefore, your reading of Shizuku puzzles me so much, because I get a completely different impression from her: Yes, she’s manipulating people and playing some pranks on them, but she’s not so malicious to do real harm to them. Her treatment of Kaede (which got shortened to ambivalence in the anime) is a good indicator: When Kaede asked Shizuku for help to pursue Natsuru, she agreed – and did keep her word. Also, when Kaede was threatened by Akane, she forcefully intervened, and it was one of the extremely few scenes in which the controlled Shizuku was shown as really furious. At the same time, she’d use Kaede as temporary hostage to snare Natsuru.
I know people like her. They’ll give you a hard time and tease the heck out of you, but when the going gets tough they’ll back you up bigtime, no questions asked. And so, Kaede and Natsuru are fairly safe around her.

Why don’t they all just go to Sakura’s house and find out what’s going on?
