Figures, artbooks pages updated ~ The passion flickers onz

Credits: Goto-PWhat do you do if you wanted to show off all your CURRENT girlfriends to your wife without pulling a 'Nice boat'? Why you update your Figures page! Sadly she wasn't as impressed with the amount invested. It doesn't help that figure prices have rose from 4200 yen per piece in 2006 to the average of 8000 yen today. Anyhow I digress. Beside showing off my plastic girlfriends, this update also aims to achieve the following:

1. Points folks to the location of my now-very-obscure Figure page.

2. Assures fellow PVC hobbyists that my plastic passion still burns even though numerous PVC giants from my blogging era have already betrayed the love graduated from the hobby.

3. To soothe the recent pain of spending close to S$700 on Volks Fate & Tinkle figures.

4. To announce our spanking new Artbooks page *confetti*

5. To put up Goto-P's beautiful illustration of the seifuku-bishoujo.

Some figure facts before I move onto the artbooks. 2009 is wallet-am-cry year for PVC collectors since it takes almost twice the budget to maintain same quota as before. Even though I'm on track for my 15-figures-a-year target, I have already blown 2K - almost 50% more than the original fiscal allotment. Plus the realisation that its time to prune my 56 figures (after 4 years of collection) is not a welcoming one. But in the best interest of these PVC pretties, it looks like I would have to let go of the lesser-loved figures to make way for newer plastic beauties. This would be an exercise for the near future.

2009 continues to be a good year for artbooks which correspondingly meant a financial catastrophe for yours truly. My Japan trip authenticates that with a haul of 1 figure, 1 anime OST and 20 artbooks. More than 2/3 of my 58 books were acquired the last 9 months. (More accurately 1/3 came back with me from Japan.) I admit that I'm still in the red-hot, honeymoon phase of the artbook passion and hence am not as discerning as I would like to be. In this aspect, I'm somewhat grateful that this glorious island republic bans many of Japan's 2D artbooks, severely limiting my purchases. *recalls scenes of a certain dark tanuki sweeping stacks of eroge artbooks off the shelves in Mandarake*

Of course there has been many artbook duds too despite my best research efforts prior to any purchase. So a pruning process for the artbook collection looks inevitable too. Meanwhile, as long as the books & figures reside on tanuki soil/cupboards, I'll love them with all my love and strength the love as granted permissible by my dearest wife.

Look forward to the great Hontouni sale soon!

  1. My figure targets have hit 0 this year. Until I get that VF-25 armoured pack figure. Nothing really strikes my interest these days although the lack of good shows to watch actually is taking its toll.

As for artbooks, one word: SHAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNAAAAAAAA. A second word would be: ALTO-HIME~

  2. Ah then Noizi Itou’s latest artbook ~ Souen ~ is perfect for you!

Plenty of Shana goodness. Could do with more Hecate chan though :)

  3. Thank goodness I don’t buy figures (yet…).

I’ll eventually be getting Arina Tanemura’s Shinsei Doumei Cross artbook once it’s released here. And I’m importing Peach-Pit’s Rozen Maiden Illustrations right now. Good thing I’m at least very particular about what artbooks I choose to buy instead of going after everything that catches my fancy. I save that habit for anime and manga :P

    • Heh, somehow the emphasis in your statement seem is on the ‘yet’ for me… :P PVC harems beckons!

I wish I was more discerning on artbooks. :) Will check out the Rozen Maiden artbook. Saw it in Kino last weekend and thought it was a little on the thin side. Amazon JP gives it 3 stars so I need to check out the contents before spending more moolah :)

One of the problems I face is the serious lack of artbook reviews online. Unlike figures where plenty of sites would put up reviews sometimes even before releases, I have to really dig for even the mention the latest releases. Of course Moeyo and Hunting the elusive are must-visits. In addition, many of the 2D artbooks are banned here. Kinokuniya just rejected my order of Murakami Suigun’s Lily White making artbook acquistion a challenge. Need to return to Japan for a shopping spree soon :)

  4. Nice collection of artbooks there ^^. I’ve kind of moved more towards collecting figures and focus less on doujinshi but I still like to come across good artbooks. Just seems that buying thin doujinshi art stuff isn’t worth the crazy high prices.
Then again, figures aren’t exactly cheap either >_<

    • My exact sentiments on doujins. :P Especially the realisation after my Japan trip how insanely inflated doujins are online XD Of course there are still worthy ones namely the compilations such as Tinker’s Byakuya Chakai :) I’m hoping against hope that Ueda Ryo sensei and WNB come out with their respective commercial illustration artbooks.

Figure prices are equally insane nowadays. It seems inversely pegged to the depth of the global economic crisis XD

  5. only bought a few figures this yrs defintely not as much as last yr and i can’t wait for the yen to drop against the dollar, could afford a few then.

btw, when is the Tanuki going to review Sengoku?

    • I feel your pain. It’s a double whammy with rising yen and figure prices. I spent S$900 on figures alone this month.

Sengoku is love. Ep 11 of Nadeko at the gate is one of the most rewatched scenes of BakeMono for this tanuki. Still, I find it hard to resist the womanly Senjougahara especially after ep 12. :)

  6. /r/ name of artbook where post’s image comes from because it’s beautiful, so DO WANT.
