Bakemonogatari 03

Summary:
Koyomi is ronery at the playground on Mother's Day but is soon joined by Hitagi who flaunts her beauty in plainclothes. After discussing the old skoolness of the playground, Hitagi gets Koyomi to invite her to sit and talk with him. Koyomi thinks that Hitagi is hitting on him but is at a loss as to how to respond so as not to give a boring response that would blow his chances. Her body language has a weird way of accompanying that killing phrase "Let's be friends" though. At least she understands and is understanding about how Koyomi's erotic thoughts make Koyomi Koyomi. Who is then accused of siscon in another surreal extended discussion which ends up with Koyomi wondering if she is hitting on him again.
Koyomi sees a lost-looking loli (again) and tries to help her, against Hitagi's warning that he'll only get hurt. After being repeatedly tsun-ed, he gets into a fight with said loli, Hachikuji Mayoi. Hitagi leaves soon after more sharp remarks. Mayoi's note is unreadable though and she confesses to not just being lost but being a lost snail.
Reaction:
Another conversation heavy episode but without a sufficiently dramatic scene to liven things up. I did heartily approve of Hitagi's fashion - if only Lunamaria had her as an out-of-uniform style adviser! There were quite a few things from the not very Superior subs that puzzled me, such as "night duty", and I'll have to look at gg's subs to get a better grip of the details. Because I suspect the nuances are everything in this type of show.
Although Koyomi is showing danger signs of turning into a spineless harem lead, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for the time being since Hitagi is, to put it mildly, a rather unusual girl and his vampiric powers seem to go beyond regeneration. And at least he's got good taste - she's so pretty and very sharp-witty, which makes her undeniably delicious whatever mode - surprised, pouty, high and mighty colour, ufufu~, vanity fair, doubtful. LOL at Koyomi's victory cry at slamming Mayoi, such an inglorious battle but who can't resist wanting to smack the occasional brat? Of course, Mayoi merely isn't what she appears to be and I hope next week's episode will pick up the pace again.

Just watched the gg subs. Good grief, what a difference.
The whole conversation btw Kiyomi and Hitagi was about the latter trying to pay the former back so that they can be on an even footing as friends. Kiyomi shares his (small) troubles about fleeing the Mother’s Day atmosphere at home on his mountain bike but not before quarreling with the elder of his younger sisters; knows that he has to apologize eventually and so doesn’t feel like going home just yet. After an ambiguous exchange that ends in Hitagi saying that Kiyomi could get a gf he wanted to, he says the debt can be repaid with a can of juice. Which leds to unexpected praise and (yet another) possible opening.

The conversation in the park scene was the best part. Lots of subtleties and nuance there, as well as all sorts of interesting commentary.
The pace is actually pretty fast, it’s very difficult to catch all of the delicious things going on, but that’s if you appreciate such delectable dialogue as can be found all over this show.

What a difference a good sub made to my experience of this episode! It’s so fitting that Senjougahara herself talked about the importance of nuance when she chided Araragi about the difference between showing and seeing that you discussed in your post.
