Hayate no Gotoku!! 13

Are we there yet?

Oh the innuendo.

Ahaha, that's the side you should show more of to Hayate.

I think that Yukichi might have better luck with guys now if she regrew her ponytail. But maybe that's just me...

Well, it happens sometimes while waiting for a guy to come...

Shana first OP sequence.

It's strap-on time!

A Dark Hina is fine too.

An Agito is fine too.

That's... that's not fair!! The ultimate feminine weapon!

If it were Nodame, the reaction from the guy would be rather different.

Hina, Ace of Hearts.

Well, this is a harem comedy.

This admixture of the competitive and childish side of Hina is surprisingly endearing. In other charas, it would be soooo annoying but it's executed here perfectly.

The sharing of the tragic backstory. Again, very well done. Often it's so embedded in the story that we never see the charas discuss it - because the how of communication is just as important as the what. In that respect, it's another area that I give high marks to SHUFFLE!

Best flag-triggering sequence EVAR. Not just in this series but in harem comedies in general. Falling in love can be unpredictable, whimsical, even farcial - exemplified in the best way possible by Hatsukoi Limited. But the long process, spanning 3-4 volumes of manga and a dozen anime episodes for Hina x Hayate is really something that deserves a classic status.

Ah, slightly disappointed that this was nerfed slightly. Preferred the more OTT depiction in the manga.

Last word for Hina!

  1. LMAO at the 2nd caption.

Too many endearing Hina moments to mention, but I especially liked her defensive posture when Hayate reached back for the cookies. What could she have possibly thought that he was whipping out? :-P

  2. Well, maybe it’s just me, but I’m loving the detour into lovecom that Hayate has taken with its second iteration. Reference-based humor is good and all, but, ah, the beauty of simple human interaction between characters…

  3. I think that Yukichi might have better luck with guys now if she regrew her ponytail. But maybe that

  4. Haha, this episode was great. Maria got to get in one of the best jabs on poor Hayate. That’s my Maria :3

  5. Zyl, do you remember our frustration at the end of S1, when it became painfully obvious that this very episode was not meant to happen (in S1)? My happy reaction when the “flashback from the future” (Hina confessing and apologizing to Ayumu on the ferris wheel) in S1 52 indicated that it WAS bound to happen after all? The pooh-pooh’ing of J.C.Staff when S2 was announced? And now, finally after all the months, the conversion?

Call me melodramatic, but somehow it feels to me like we’ve come a long long way, too. Like Hina.

I didn’t expect J.C.Staff to blow an entire episode on this. And with one very minor nitpick (I preferred the manga animation of the world below Hina/Hayate – it felt more immediate and real), it was wonderful. Indeed you’re right, this flag was gradually developed, so meticulously planned and played out that it IS an example of how to do it. However, things still continue. We’re now in the “suffering of the goddess” arc, and I believe that it might take us the rest of S2 to reach the ferris wheel.

    Looking forward to it :)

  6. @ RP

Now I just keep thinking about the banana from Saki. orz

    @ Myssa Rei

Exactly, it’s still the rabu rabu LOL! Though I do prefer Hayate no Gotoku’s reference-based humour than Pani Poni Dash! – simply because I get more of the former’s.

    @ Bill

Yes, my mistake. And high five for another fellow ponytail fan!

    @ Nazarielle

Every interaction between Maria-san and Hina seems so full of plot potential. Hope this aspect comes out more when Maria-san’s backstory is developed further.

    @ Mentar

In my case, it was more of panic since I had assumed, by jumping forward, the studio was going to skip all the best parts in between. I’m really glad that you were right and that J.C. Staff has really picked up on what Hina fans want and even put in that infectious ED. :)

  7. Well, in the next ep we’ll have Maria unknowingly skewer Hina multiple times ;)

    Remember? The train ride? ^_^

  8. this episode seems the best in this second season for me.
