My humble artbook collection

After approximately 2 years and S$2000, I'm proud (though very broke) to present my little stash of 33 artbooks. 2008 and 2009 saw me going on a frenzy to acquire my favourite artists work. Things got a LOT worst when I discovered Yahoo Japan Auctions and realised that doujins are within tanuki grasp. Not a good revelation at all.

Anyhow, I would very much like to give an introduction/recommendation of every item on the list above but the bed beckons before a very hectic work day. So instead, I'll pose 3 questions for now before returning to update this entry.

Question 1 - Can you identify all the artbooks and their artists in this collection?

Question 2 - What other artbooks needs to be on this list?

Queston 3 - If you had to have a top 10 of this list, what would it look like?

I'll be back to give my 2 cents on my favourite 10 artbooks! Oyasuminasai!

Update 27/05

From top left to bottom right, in no order of love, here's some REALLY brief thoughts (trying to keep under 50000 words) on each book.

1. Tsukiyo Chakai (Tinkle) - Good but overpriced (currently 14k yen at Amazon JP)

2. Byakuya Chakai (Tinkle) - Her 2nd illustration book and honestly the only you'd ever need.

3. Chronicle (Suzuhira Hiro) - 120 pages of full-color lacy bishoujo goodness bound in hardcover.

4. Kirakira Reki (Mikeou) - My favourite artist after Tinkle. Top 5 in my collection.

5. Nagomi Hiyori (Goto-P) - Incredible meld of vibrant colours with soft hues. Moe OVERLOAD!

6. Custom-made girl (Miyama Zero) - Babelicious bishoujos in somewhat naughty situations.

7. Galaxy's Child (Nao Goto) - Best lolicious art EVAR!

8. Nanairo Ice (Nanao Naru) - The undisputed queen of imouto-moe.

9. SuperLollipop (POP) - Cute doesn't even begin to describe it. Impeccable use of pastel shades.

10. Cielo (Kozue Amano) - The best of the 3 artbooks Amano sensei has released thus far.

11. Motoyon (Moto 4%) - Kawaii art marred slightly by poor layout.

12. Angel Flavour (Nanase Aoi) - Her work feels a little dated. Contemplating to sell this book.

13. Artwork @ Kogado (E-ji Komatsu) - Rare artbook but wasn't as impressive as I had hoped.

14. Lyrical (Fumitake Moekibara) - From hits like Nursery Rhyme. Thin but worthy artbook.

15. Fri-Fri (Kimizuka Aoi) - Again feels a little dated but this is one solid compilation of her work.

16. Musume Hiyori (Koutaro) - One of my few doujins. Specialises in beauitful tanlines.

17. Color defragmentation (Ueda Ryo) - They're soo cute, it feels wrong to be ogling.

18. Art of Sister princess (Tenhiro Naoto) - Art that stands the test of time!

19. Pixiv girls collection (Various) - Good range of art styles. Good value for money.

20. Museum Girls (Various) - Great CG artwork. Surprised it slipped through SG censors.

21. D.C II Spring Collection (DCII) - Not one of the best eroge artbooks I have.

22. Yoakena Perfect visual collecton (Yoakena) - Bekkankou - the artist - is a national treasure.

23. Miraroma Visual fanbook (Miraroma) - Mikeou at his best. Some adult content.

24. Hook Memorial Illustration (Various) - A must get for Hooksoft fans.

25. Lyrical Nanoha perfect visual collection (MEGAMI) - The BEST Nanoha visual collection.

26. D.C.S.S Perfect visual collection (MEGAMI) - A GREAT deal better than the anime.

27. Fate Stay night visual collection (MEGAMI) - The antidote to the anime.

28. Zero no Tsukaima visual collection (MEGAMI) - Needs more Henrietta. Great GREAT buy still.

29. Avvenire (Aria) - Personally I preferred this to Cielo since I like the anime art more.

30. AIR memorial (AIR) - Worth the first 1/3 full page illustrations. Diluted by episodic babble.

31. Shugo Chara illustrations (Peach Pit) - Needs MOAR Utau.

32. Saber photo book (F/SN) - The most concentration Saber goodness in the 2D realm.

33. Nia photo book (Gurren Lagann) - A lot more superior to the Yoko Artbook.

Some of these books deserve their own entry. Will try to follow up on the lesser known ones such Custom-made girl and Lyrical.

Might I suggest checking out Pieces of the World by Kaya Kuramoto or Houseki Bako by Kaori Minakami? Definitely some of my favorites. The Goto P and Noizi Ito books are also great if you like their style.

  3. You didn’t spend enough money on Chocola.

  4. What the hell? You have one of those 12 Sister Princess books. I’ve been looking for those for AGES.

  5. anonymous_object : Thanks! Will check out those other artbooks. Looking fwd to your list too! :)

0rion: That was IMPRESSIVE! I don’t remember a lot of the artbook names despite owning them XD. N0. 14 is Fumitake Moekibara illustration works. Artists for eroge such as Nursery Rhyme and Kiss my deity.

Di Gi Kazune: hehe, I hear Chocola is quite rare nowadays. Haven’t seen the contents though.

Adun: Grabbed by off YJA. This is book 1 of 2. Personally I think book 2 is more impressive… and very very rare :(

  6. Chocola 2003 LE
    Chocola 2004 LE
    Chocola Selection LE
    Chocola 2006
    Chocola 2008

  7. Oh, you got the Shugo Chara one too? I have that. Was surprised what the “dust jacket” was a giant poster.

The only other ones I have are the Chobits: Your Eyes Only, Full Moon wo Sagashite artbook, and the Pita-Ten artbook.

  8. I’am jealous ! I want Pop and Tinkle’s artbooks ! :’(

  9. what’s the name for book number 6 ?

  10. Di Gi Kazune: Looks like I’d be scouring Kinokuniya this weekend. Thx for the heads up.

Asrialys: That was a real surprise indeed and a priceless omake.

Leonia: Pop should be relative easy to order from online or Kinokuniya if there’s one in your vicinity. Tinkle’s work is a lot trickier… XD

OneSin: Custom made girl by Miyama Zero.

  11. Kino should have the last two. That’s my own list. >_>

  12. Definitely a great collection to bequeath to your kids as part of their inheritance!
