HATED BY HINAGIKU

It's not without a certain amount of irony that the comment for a HiNA torrent reads

If you're her fans and not getting it YOU WILL BE HATED BY HINAGIKU.?

Wouldn't one be hated more if I was 'getting' HiNA via BitTorrent, liked it a lot but did not buy the CD rather than a self-professed who didn't download it or downloaded it, listened to it, didn't like and then deleted it?

So just to be on the safe side...

Glad to say that it's nicely produced with quite a lot of illustrations though I've seen at least two of them before elsewhere such as in the Hinagiku Chara CD.

These two are my favourites, Sleeping Hina amidst Falling Sakura and Hina putting on her hair clip.

Interesting also to contrast reviews by Dav and j1m0ne, self-declared Hinagiku/Shizu-sama fan and non-fan respectively.

The former's verdict shows that merchandisers may count on fans to support their favourite chara and/or seiyuu but they also expect a certain standard of quality. Because merchandise is Serious Business:

Not overtly excited about this album but it definitely got me thinking of a possible purchase.

The latter discusses how the album is notable for giving Shizu-sama a chance to portray Hina-san in a way that we haven't had much chance to enjoy in the anime:

Overall HiNA is an average, mildly enjoyable pop album and I would wager that only Hinagiku fans (I know there are a lot of you guys around) would be inclined to fork out the cash for this. I have to say though, that hearing Shizuka in (or attempting to be in) cute Hinagiku mode is reason enough to give this a listen.

And, after a listen, it was reason enough for me too. I'm biased on two counts but I did feel that Shizu-sama was successful in singing 'in-chara' almost the whole time. Hopefully we'll get to see more of that aspect of Hina-san in the second season.

  1. Either way, you’re hated by Hinagiku. ;) For forgetting her birthday as well as this.

  2. I-ts not like I want you to b-buy my CD or anything!

  3. Haesslich is just jealous of my Hina towels. And I plan to buy another one (the flower and bikini one)! Mwahaha! :D

  4. Zyl – she doesn’t like perverted things, so that’ll piss her off even more than Hayate’s wishy-washy manner. You’re doomed to be hated by the Pink-Haired Ones, Zaku.

  5. I remember you saying that before, Haesslich, but I don’t think it’s true. Hina is NOT particularly bothered by ecchi things, she certainly is no Mahoro. Remember her “wanna see?” cleavage tease of Hayate during the haunted old school building visit. Or the recent OVA where she was much more irritated about Hayate’s comment than about the fact that he saw her naked.

No, when it comes to ecchi, Hina is very normal, IMHO.

  6. Just for the record, I don’t actually *use* the towels. To me, they’re like collectibles. Though I must confess that I always go and facerub them furiously whenever Haesslich posts a comment after them. :p

Given that Hayate no Gotoku has a habit of breaking the fourth wall, I’d be really interested to see some kind of comment by the charas themselves. They’ve urged viewers to buy stuff but surely they must be aware in that ironic sort of way of what some fans get up to with said stuff. Or do they have cool Kawashima Ami attitude to that (job hazard but it’s a picture of me, not me and has got nothing to do with me thereon)?

  7. I call into session the Order of Hinagikuists. Chairman Zyl is required to prepare a proper celebratory blog entry, since big news are upon us!

    1) The new trailer for Hayate no Gotoku S2 (http://hayatenogotoku.com/yokoku_mv/mov/play.swf) indicates that the story will continue with the excellent school sports festival (manga chapter 52+), which isn’t just very Hina-centric to begin with, but which is an important prerequisite for the coming of THE Valentine Day’s arc. It seems that J.C.Staff finally got the go-ahead to touch the important parts of the manga which were omitted in S1.

    2) Hayate no Gotoku manga chapter 218 had the results of the latest popularity poll. True to her self, Hina pulverized her opposition (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=2301429&postcount=828)

    Results:

    1. Katsura Hinagiku with 4185 votes
    2. Maria with 1814 votes
    3. Sanzenin Nagi with 1776 votes
    4. Ayasaki Hayate with 1366 votes
    5. Tennous Athene with 1008 votes

  8. Erhm… I don’t quite see where the pessimism is warranted, since the trailer already _showed_ relevant parts from the sports festival arc, buuuut okay. Besides, one thing we can’t accuse J.C.Staff of lately is that they don’t truthfully convert their material. Rather the opposite.

And I don’t think I’d follow your CD logic either. Too much of it depends on the quality of the music on the disks. And tbh, I haven’t heard about the difference in sales numbers. Where’s that from?

In any case, we’re talking about almost a 3:1 advantage of Hina over the rest of the characters. That’s no coincidence ;)

  9. Zaku – if you’d listened to the Anison CD, yes… some people buy them for the music. Especially Step and the AMG OVA covers. Those were great – and hearing “Cruel Angel’s Thesis” by Shizuka Itou was a treat.

  10. Haha, you just can’t win! Maybe if you buy more of her stuff she will go from hating you to being tsundere for you.

  11. She’s only tsundere to you if your name is Hayate Ayasaki. Zyl has no chance to avoid hate from Hina, especially not with that towel he uses.

  12. She can tease, but she does draw the line just past that – remember how she has a thing for being proper… or how she reacted to the idea of Nishizawa envying her skin tone and texture after fainting in the bath. And even normal girls (or especially them) react towards characer towels… or the idea of a guy wiping his ass or penis on a picture of their faces or uncovered bosoms.

  13. I thought you said you USED those towels – which makes it just wrong. As wall-hangings, I can understand… although it’d be embarassing for Hinagiku. I think Nagi’s fine with it, unless it’s a guy getting it on with a Hayate pillowcase…

Also, Chapter 129’s out… and Yukariko seems much less cool now we’ve seen her in the ‘extra content’ pages.

  14. You know, Nagi said in the previous poll-based chapter that she’d catch up with the strength of ten once the anime hit the airwaves… and she didn’t. :D I love the curb-stomping Hina gave both Nagi AND Maria combined, although I didn’t expect Athene to get as high a score as she did… even if she ultimately was the one responsible for making Hayate the way he is now.

  15. Thanks for the big news, Mentar.

However, being the pessimist of the Hontou Ni duo, I’d rather wait for the episodes in question to air first and then celebrate. For all we know, we could end up screaming about blasphemy/sacrilege, fillers, butchery, JC Staff original FUBAR etc etc…

On the popularity poll result, that’s great news. But while it’s nice, it’s not hugely significant compared to how (IIRC) the Nagi chara CD steamrolled Hina-san’s chara CD when they went on sale head-to-head last time I was on the streets of Akiba. Methinks the kind of voting that uses wallets, rather than mail in ballots, still talks biggest and talks best.

  16. Actually I haven’t managed to see the trailer yet. There’s been a brownout in the district I’m in right now and internet has been either reeaaally slow or non-existent.

On the CDs, you mean people actually buy them for the music? ;-) I can’t remember where I heard the CD sales numbers from – at that time, I had yet to convert to Hinagikuism but I remember feeling faintly awed at the powah of the KugiRie fanbase. Took a look at Amazon.jp and it seems that Hina’s chara CD ranks #32,225 and Nagi’s #34,670 – so yay for Hina on Amazon.jp at least!

In any case, I’m probably being paranoid because of the fear of karmic retribution for all those times I laughed at Stripey’s anguish after his extremem disappointment at how Mashiro was characterized in Otome. Every time he raved about Light Haired Lolis, I just couldn’t help but pipe up with a Mashiro “Ja zou!!” LOL
