The Kakoii of Misaka Mikoto

Dav also highlighted the above scene, from Vol.2 Ch 13, in her discussion of the challenges and expectations of the forthcoming Railgun anime. It shows why Mikoto is full of love and win and Oneesama. And we see Kuroko falling head over heels for Biri Biri all over again. ????????????

And the manga just gets better and better... One of the concerns raised as been whether there will be enough material for an anime series or just an OVA. Having just glanced through the third volume, there should be enough material for one cour (12-13 eps) at least.

And definitely more chances for Mikoto to be oh so cool. I just loved the art in the top left panel above.

In Index, we often got Super Competitive Biri Biri (challenging Touma to fights) and Tsundere Biri Biri (struggling about her feelings for/against him) and both were great. But as the focus of the Railgun series, her portrayal is so much more balanced and we can really see her as the Main Heroine as she fights For Great Justice in Academy City - without all the annoying speechifying to boot!

  1. Yes yes yes! Plus Touma is reduced to simple cameo appearances when he still had his memories – he’s much better like this.

  2. I gave up on Majutsu Index around the Accelerator side episode, mostly due to the exposition/”speech is a free action” in the fight scenes. The character development seemed rather flat and superharem meister Touma suffered from that annoying “Emiya syndrome”.

The good part? Mikoto-neesama is amazing.

  3. I’m surprised that you didn’t mention the pool cleaning scene between Mikoto and Kuroko. I think that in a way it was even more memorable, because it cut even deeper – Kuroko really is anything ELSE but a crybaby, as we know. And Mikoto handled things pretty admirably here.

Oh, and I’d list Kuroko almost on the same importance level as Mikoto. She certainly is the most diverse character in the show at least ;)

  4. Then I can assure you that you’ll enjoy (part of) Index Season 2 very much, once it comes around. The Anime ended with Volume 6 of the light novels. Come Volume 8, which hopefully will make it into Index 2 *crosses all fingers*, Kuroko is the protagonist, and Mikoto and Misaka Imouto are her co-stars, with minimal appearances by Touma and Index. It should be a treat for any Kuroko fans out there. ;)

  5. I actually feel a bit sorry for Index since she’s showed what an interesting chara she can be during her battle with Sherry’s golem.

Maybe Index 2 will be worth seeing after all!

  6. why you often called mikoto ‘biri-biri’?
    i don’t understand and don’t know why though…

  7. Yeah, the pool cleaning chapter was nice but it’s quite dialogue heavy – haven’t had the time to read it properly yet (since I need to use my dictionary a lot).

Good point about Kuroko – she’s not the title chara (then again, neither was Touma) but she fronts the cover of Vol.3 and we get an arc dedicated to her backstory too. And definitely looking forward to more – she’s such an interesting chara! :)

  8. That’s Touma’s nickname for Mikoto; it’s often used as a sound effect for an electric shock.
