Hinagiku no Gotoku 2 :: Ep 0

Wow, Kurogane was actually grumpier than Aroduc! On balance, I'm going with the latter since Voice of the Sky clearly warned viewers of what to expect right at the start.

And, of course, I give thanks to Haruhi-sama for my dose of pink-haired, Shizu-sama-voiced Hinagiku goodness even if she should have her own show/OVA.

I was surprised to be reminded that this was Hina's first time too... visiting Hayate at the Sanzenin mansion. Besides keeping Hina and Hayate apart, does it seem that Hata-sensei is also mindful to keep Hina from talking to Maria until there's some sort of impasse that the former Hakuo Student Council President's advice can help overcome?

The shot that Hinagikuists have been raving about. Many thanks to Haesslich for providing it. I was a bit apprehensive actually because while fanservice is mostly enjoyable, if the scene humiliated Hina too much, it would have been a real downer for me.

But thankfully it wasn't too bad and it also underscored the current problem with the Hayate x Hinagiku dynamic. Both want to get along with each other but events and subsequent misunderstanding conspire against it.

And actually I was ROTFLOL at Nishizawa's little simulation skit, particularly the parts where she pretended to be Hayate while (we knew) Hayate was watching (from the sound of the closing door).

Well, things on the Hamster and Hina fronts were resolved pretty easily.

But then used as a spur for some Nagi jealousy. Seriously if Nagi was able to use her superior intellect for a while, she'd realize that neither of Hayate's harem before her are that well-endowed either and, more importantly, they were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and to try and understand him better.

The vertigo nerf again. At least it was quite in-chara and canonical, like the way Isumi (the Female Ryouga Hibiki in this series) was nerfed. Still love Hina's Murasame summon though.

You know... Hamster x Hina don't look half-bad together.

I don't see any real possibility that Nagi will ever learn to clear up that initial misunderstanding about Hayate's romantic feelings (or lack thereof) about her - structurally the whole series will unravel. As such, Hinagiku should just go and get her own harem already. Miki is already in the bag and Nishizawa would make a nice waifu too.

Steppin' was nicely upbeat and pleasant enough. Still waiting for my HiNA CD to arrive...

I'll probably adopt the same modus operandi as the first season and only blog episodes where Hina has decent screentime. Hina Birthday Arc want!

  1. I definitely need to get around to actually watching more of Hayate no Gotoku. This looks pretty funny, but I don’t want to watch it until I’ve finished the first season :<

  2. Again, I think that people are misunderstanding the intention of this OVA. It was not MEANT or designed to be drop-dead funny and brilliantly original, it was intended to _reintroduce_ the characters and their quirks.

You could run a tick list, particularly for the secondary characters. Examples:

Isumi: Soft-spoken (check), liked by Wataru (check), gets lost all the time (check), is able to banish evil spirits with her powers (check)

Yukij: Teacher (check), drinks alot (check), always short on money (check), unreliable (check), scared of Hina (check)

… and so on. All these details were worked off not because they were somehow needed or even supporting a great storyline (rather the opposite), but they were added to prepare the viewer for season 2.

  3. Gotta love that Hina was more upset about blowing a chance than at being ogled by Hayate. But as Maria says, her charms outweigh her development. ;)

  4. you know, i think the colour of hina’s hair changed.

it was a different shade of pink.

  5. Now that you mentioned it, you’re right Mentar. The OVA was meant to be a re-intro ep to Season 2. Both Shiraishi Ryouko and Itou Shizuka previously remarked in separate interviews that this OVA was intended as an introduction to both the old and new characters (through swimsuits lol). Sigh… If only I had remembered that before watching it.

As such, Hinagiku should just go and get her own harem already.

In light of this, I support the demand for a spin-off OVA/series starring Hina
