I'm so there too / At the Border of Emptiness

ufotable animation and Kajiura Yuki music brought Evirus into the Garden of Sinners. I got hooked when I learnt that Sakamoto Maaya was voicing Ryougi Shiki. After all, she voiced Lunamaria Hawke who is the patron megami of this anime blog and my Maaya love was recently bolstered by the Oneesama appeal of Lal'C Mell Mark.

The first episode of Kara no Kyoukai was impressive... Most impressive. Reminded me of many of the things that I liked about Ghost in the Shell: Innocence - the grimey and decaying environs, the doll/mannequin motif, the general sense of brooding and mystery, a kick ass female lead (who leaps off buildings...) etc.

But, in all honesty, the real trigger was this Shiki figurine... I never buy a figure from a series I've not seen. I've got to like the chara first and foremost and then and only then do I look at whether aesthetic and PVC quality are worthy of the chara.

  1. ufotable animation and Kajiura Yuki music brought Evirus into the Garden of Sinners.

I was going to watch it from the start because of lol TYPE-MOON, but learning that ufotable and Kajiura were involved made it a must see. And Sakamoto was icing on the cake. :P

  2. If you enjoyed the first movie, you will really enjoy the next two. Its all uphill.

  3. TheBigN, I love the richness of the TYPE MOON worlds but precisely because of how Tsukihime and Fate Good Night under-delivered, I was apprehensive about how the KnK OVAs would turn out. Pretty good it was – I’m relieved!

Kraker2k, thanks. Glad to hear that it gets better.

  4. So how do you feel about Maaya Sakamoto’s ▼ Show

    ? (Watch episode two.)

Also, this used to be the high sign of figure cred, years ago:

  5. Welcome to the fold. The movies were well-done, and an example of how you should execute a Type-MOON anime. The figure… well, the way they did the pattern on the kimono just sold it to me the moment I saw it.

  6. Hmm…not really a big TYPE-MOON fan, but Kajiura Yuki and the comparison to GitS is certainly a good enough sales pitch for me. Time to go check check it out. ^_^

  7. That obi and knot is quite eye-catching indeed.

Mine should be home this week.

  8. Evirus, I haven’t seen Ep 2 yet but I kinda guessed it was there. Will make up my mind about what I feel when I see it for myself… -_-;;

Regarding the 1/6 figure, I love the pose but I’m not so hot about the red leather jacket on yukata… Also 1/6 is just too big for me to manage.

Haesslich, if it looks as good as it does in the promo/catalog photo, I’ll be a happy Zaku. The texture of the obi looks exquisite as EcuMat pointed out.

Orion, looking forward to reading your thoughts about this series!

  9. Zyl: The way it’s moulded looks silky and satiny all at once… which is a hard texture to work into plastic, especially with the way they’ve got it folding onto itself with the kimono. Look at the white patterns around her legs, as well as on the obi – it’s very, very nice.

  10. The kimono doesn’t look quite as good in real life as it does in the promotional images, but I’m still very impressed with the final product. I was expecting more of a silken sheen (something like a subdued mother-of-pearl effect), which the promo images seemed to suggest, though I realise that’s probably asking too much.

Overall, very well done. Never mind that I haven’t seen a single frame of the anime.

  11. I’m going to watch it cause Evirus likes it, I like his recommendations. I feel weird calling him Evirus because I’ve called him ‘karmaburn guy’ for years now.
