Personally, I loved Asatte no Houkou, but that is a fairly steep price tag – I would personally recommend waiting a few months and then checking out the used market for the set. I actually get a lot of anime in this manner, and I’ve never had a problem.
I also would agree that the chances of a US release are slim to none – Aria may’ve gotten one, but Aria, while similar in genre to Asatte no Houkou, had the advantage of a vocal fanbase, which I feel Asatte no Houkou seriously lacks.

I guess it really depends on how much you love the series, right? I’ve seen licenses that looked impossible surprisingly many times, and this one might get licensed by some R1 company. But given it’s popularity, it will never have a good packaging. Judging by the price tag and 6 DVDs count, I can guess it will look a lot better than potential R1 release. So I think it really boils down to if you enjoyed the series enough to pay 12000 yen.
Granted, you might want to think about potential R2 box releases. It looks like many companies are trying to squeeze the last drop of $ from the consumers before they move on to Blu-ray.

I’ve bought many DVDs, but none with that steep a pricetag. I say no.

From personal opinion, I’d say a rotund no. I play stingy for DVDs more than any other anime merchandise out there. I just can’t find any reason to pay more than 100 US dollars in a whole series, let alone half. Heck, even my most favourite series have a hard time getting on my shelves.

No, but only because they blew the ending.
A moving, mature tale about self-acceptance and family love becomes… a story about sixth grade romantic drama with ? What?! Then there’s the annoying additional character who provides a deus ex machina plot resolution. GNRF. It went from being one of my favorite series to one of my least favorite with a snap of the finger.
Still, I was tempted when I saw a $20 bootleg box set. Fortunately, I don’t buy bootlegs.
Insert standard comments about ridiculous DVD prices.

A Day Without Me: Great advice! Only snag is the secondary market for Taiwanese anime R3s in Singapore is virtually non-existent
Still I think I should start doing that for the other shows I have my eye on.
muhootsaver: Heh somehow I have concluded that I love AnH less than Rozen Maiden Traumend and Nanoha As since I grabbed the latter 2 (which here almost as pricey) with a lot less deliberation. As for R3 vs R1s, I have to say that R3s are consistently better than R1 not only in the visual quality but packaging department in my collection. I think the slightly higher DVD counts does make a difference – all for a price I suppose since R1s are surely more economical.
C.I./yaku: Thanks for the input! I guess I could put aside the cash for my preordered Hayate (Nanoha StrikerS) figure which would come up to about those numbers XD
Mac (Kyuusai): Initially I disliked the ending too. But I thought long and hard how it should have ended for it to be better and I concluded the ending was not so bad after all.
How would you like the series to be concluded?

No.

Maybe you can trade in your Sister Princess DVD boxset for AnH?

Zyl: LOL! I’d throw in my Rahxephon DVDs too if they’re willing to make the exchange XD
