The lovably stupid – Kou classed bishoujos

Affectionately coined by Kabitzin to describe Saber's charm (Fate/Stay night), it dawned on me lately that "the lovably stupid" describes not-so-uncommon a class of anime bishoujos - one that uses a sublter form of moe to entice tanukis. Though not cerebrally challenged (as the title suggests), the "lovably stupid" tend to be socially inept, often due to their unique upbringing/circumstances or a naive single-mindedness on their mission at hand. Yet it's this charming mix of seriousness and silliness that makes them so endearing. Wagaya fans would know who this list is dedicated to. In honour of favouritest miko, Kou, here's a tribute to the 'lovably stupid".

Kou (Wagaya no oinarisama) - The miko who inspired this list. Remember not to delegate too complicated household chores lest she DIES in the attempt to accomplish it.

Saber (Fate/Stay Night) - Ahoge = lovable. Sticking with Shirou = Stupid. There you have it.

Nagato Yuki (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu) - The near-omnipotent manipulator of data/matter didn't know how to work an optical mouse. Kawaii!

Nice list! The one I would disagree with is Louise. Most of the others have their moments of being lovably stupid but at least they can come through for you when it matters. Louise is way too inconsistent and generally incompetent…

I’m not sure I’d call any of them “lovably stupid” to their face though

It never really occured to me before, but I guess this IS a pretty common personality type; I’ve seen it countless times, but I never thought to classify it. You’re definitely right about Yuki and Saber being near the top of the list

i don’t think Louise and Fate should be included on the list. i would Ruri on that as Ep18 shows, Ruri still need to learn people skills.

You know you could add Odenara Karen of Onegai Twins to this list. She’s lovable, but barcoding an onion and can’t figure out why the price is not appearing? ^^

Kabitzin: heh my opinion of Louise is frozen at Season 1. The one thing that stood out in that season was her silly yet somewhat admirable noble pride. That’s wat put her on this list

Vexx: Indeed, not when so many of them are superb sword-wielders XD

kaz3phyrous: Hmm Noe would is kind of on the borderline for me since I can’t put my finger on what she’s obsessed with to make her a little silly. Obsession with chicken rearing maybe?

Di Gi Kazune/Beowulf Lee: Haha! Strange how it’s coined Nanoha Ass when it’s mainly Fate’s that everyone is obsessed with XD

Derek: Oh they’re very different. One is solid characterisation that occasional stretches belief but still credible. The other is purely Otaku pandering. And just for the record, I’m not a Fuko fan neither do I detest her like many but I think she could have been better characterised

Vin-nii: Hmm I wouldn’t consider Ryou to be part on this list She’s quite shart actually, realising the sister’s true feelings and socially able. In fact before Kyou’s thigh buffet in ep 19, Ryou was my fav char in Clannad XD
