Out of a Box

How important is the box to you, my fellow figurine collectors?

I keep all my empty boxes but three boxes have gone missing. Upset does not even begin to describe how I've been feeling. Due to various circumstances, my stuff was moved to a smaller and different room while I was away in London and some stuff has disappeared during the move.

Two of the MIA boxes are for the first and second Megahouse Lunamarias (left and middle). I'm particularly unhappy about the first one given how I finally managed to acquire her in Akiba after nearly two years of searching. The final MIA box is for Max Factory's Yuki, together with the parts for her Cardigan mode.

I've tried to console myself that I'm not going to sell my Megahouse Lunamarias EVAR so not having the box shouldn't matter. And I thank my Lucky Star that I also bought an extra MaxFac Yuki who is in London with my other Alter Fate. But, right now, the figures still feel incomplete and mutilated somehow.

I keep thinking now how I wished I had asked Stripey to come over to my home to evacuate the figures when I was told of the room move. He often accuses me of being too rough to my boxes and, now, I'm missing a real good thing now they've said goodbye. (Though I continue to live in hope/delusion that they'll turn up somewhere at home.)

Notes on the complete but not quite complete Megahouse Lunamaria trio:

While I won't say that the Bandai and Banpresto Lunamarias cannot make it, I certainly won't hesitate to sat that Megahouse's Lunamaria trio has been my most satisfying Lunamaria figurine acquisitions.

I had a mad 'buy anything Lunamaria' phase but due to 'wallet am cry' pressures and disillusionment with the quality of some of my purchases, it has evolved into a 'buy only if it conveys the chara's charm effectively' doctrine. This probably complements those who aspire towards a certain feel for your figurine collection.

Miscellanous notes:

Hobby Art at Sunshine Plaza still has got one item of the second/middle Lunamaria figurine for SGD 34.90... spending that money just to get the box feels like a waste. Plus I will feel that one of the Lunamarias will be made to feel like a homeless bum...

The unnamed shop at Sunshine Plaza #01-39, which sells mainly older figurines, has got one of the third (and my favourite which also was a gift from Stripey and morit) though stock was plentiful (with steep discounts adding insult to injury) when I was last in Akiba.

  1. Damnit, I don’t have a figurine

  2. I used to be all gung-ho about keeping the boxes, especially my OP figs. Alas, they are massive space eaters. So in a spring cleaning fit, I had to declutter. It was depressing, but I got over it. Kinda. Practicality outweighed sentimentality.

  3. Boxes are very important. :( Sad to hear you’re missing some.

  4. UGUU! I more pain for the Yuki box with PVC parts still in it. Maybe by Haruhi’s grace, they’re still lying somewhere in the house :P

  5. Boxes are important for me as it’ll be much easier to transport my lovely ladies when the time comes for me to move out.

  6. I play tetris with my figurine boxes. Gotta stack ‘em all.

  7. About a fourth of my display cabinet is taken up by boxes lol
    Mostly Fate’s.

  8. I’m seriously thinking about throwing some boxes away. I have an entire closet full of nothing but figure boxes and I think I’m going to need that closet for storing normal things pretty soon.

  9. Thanks everyone. I’m feeling a lot less upset now but hope/delusion still springs eternal that I’ll uncover the missing boxes/parts somewhere someday!!

  10. i only have 1 fig hence 1 box. xecty’s out of the box and yea, have my reservations to throwing the box away. nice box art.
