DCIISS – Shocking siscon upset!

Yume was the obvious DCII haremette of choice for this tanuki. Inheriting most of Nemu's charm (think Dark Nemu, tsundere imouto and 'nii-san') and voiced by moe-incarnate Horie Yui, she gained my love even before there was word about a DCII anime conversion. (My Kotobukiya Yume figure which I'm trying to sell is testament to that love.) That was until DCIISS came along.

In any romance, the Hontouni SOP is to support the haremette that has the clearest and highest level of communication (that leads of true understanding) with the male lead. Which is why childhood friends and siscon imoutos traditionally have a headstart hence earning my backing. Unfortunately, DCIISS has spliced this trait into 2 and implanted them separately into 2 sisters - Otome (commanding that high level of understanding/communication with Yoshiyuki) and Yume (exploiting that imouto moe love). It's an interesting predicament not unlike having to choose between your left or right leg to amputate. But after an intense struggle and battling against tanuki-kind genetic programming, Otome won out. (Yet another hard evidence that Stripey is not siscon... ok imouto-con.) I simply love how Otome and Yoshiyuki can speak so freely and easily with each other.

Of course I still enjoy Yume's tsundere imouto antics but surely Otome is the better candidate to fulfill Yoshiyuki's emotional needs given their sturdier foundation. Beside, Otome appears to be THE promised girl of the series and we know how that boosts the odds of snagging Otouto-kun. Her righteous aspirations probably also sit well with tanukis whose kind is synonymous with the word. Not to mention, Otome has already technically confessed to Yoshiyuki during the puppet show, only that Yoshi-doofus didn't realise it. (But man, how I LOVE this play-for-real plot device - last seen in Kimikiss with great effect and never fails to invoke the memory of that touching scene in Figure 17.)

Either that I should stay away from Zyl and his heretical onee-sect to keep my imouto love pure and untainted. Yeah, I'll do that just... after DCIISS ends with a Otome X Yoshiyuki ending of course.

  1. Wait, what? DC2.2 is good and it has siscon? I know I committed to watching the first DC2 to see the power of siscon for myself, but dropped it (with your permission) once the Minatsu train wreck started and without any siscon at that. I guess this means I’ll be picking up DC2.2 after all.. as long as you don’t mind that I didn’t finish DC2.

Hopefully Yoshiyuki will raise himself above the “just slightly above School Days Makoto” level you ranked him at after the first half.

  2. Noooo. Yume camp admits defeat, but not without a fight. If my game-playing benefits me, Yume will be better than Otome towards the end of the anime. I certainly hope so. Otome might be winning the battle, but not the war.

  3. Great post – DC II SS has definitely made up for the first season’s shortcomings so far for me. Through ep 4 Otome seems like the clear frontrunner to me too, but I wonder if we’re going to get an epic Yume vs Otome smackdown for Yoshiyuki. Very happy the Asakura shimai are getting the limelight they deserve and we’re done with the Minatsu and Koko Show…

  4. Sixten: DCII season 1 was an abomination I didn’t complete either and would like to forget as well :P DCIISS’s siscon element is not a pure-bred fetish despite the classic non-blood related sibling-hood since there’s no true “I’m in love with my bro” taboo :P Still the romance is very well built-up and I’m loving the consistency of the developments for Yume and Otome. Yoshiyuki’s still pretty cliched/bland but he’s bearable, unlike when he was with Koko. Such a cad he was then XD

blissmo: One after my own heart! :)

bluemist: Yes and that’s what keeps me excited over the series :) Your posts on DCII, specifically on Yume is one of the major reasons why I was a staunch supporter of Yume prior to DCIISS. Can’t wait to see if the tide of the battle turns… XD

suguru: I’m not sure we’ll see Nemu-Sakura classed confrontations in DCI with Yume and Otome but they seem to be slated for a showdown sometime. Yume is all too aware of Otome’s threat and showing signs of jealousy (ah how sweet a jealousy is an imouto’s :P ). By bluemist’s post, I believe Yume has a lagged start but would catch up in the final stretch of the race. Can’t wait for that :)

  5. My last odds still had Otome at the top

The most recent odds don’t look that interesting so I won’t post it. Couple of comments.

    1. Yoshiyuki, the Puppet Show, Sakura, Morimiya family (SOLA) ….

    2. D.C. anime producers needs to take marketing course again. Imagine the rating and sales they could have had, if they chose the most popular girl, Shirakawa.

    3. Am I getting too sleepy or does the current Sakura look better than original D.C. or even compared to D.C. II first season? I wonder how many otaku would like to see alternative game with another choice for male character who will be allowed to go for Sakura instead of other girls?

    4. Which anime series’s Student Council has the highest ratings in quality if you consider female quality, quantity, male quality, quantity, and diversity? Hayate? D.C. II? To Heart 2? Full Metal Panic Fmp? Strawberry Panic? Marimite?

  6. maglor:

    2. Makes you wonder why they wasted money/resources on DCII season 1 too.

    3. Sakura certainly looks better now than in DCI. Their character ports got a boost when FEEL took over production of the DC franchise. Can’t say the same for the emotional impact though XD

    4. Discipline… erm never mind XD

  7. The power of Oto-nee compels me too!!

  8. I’m glad to report Otome remains numba 1 on the tanuki charts at the closure of DCIISS! :)
