A blog by any other domain name
A confluence of Hinano's ROFLMAO reaction to the Stripeysian turn in the Vampire Knight manga and Dancing Queen's acquisition of a lovely domain name reminded me of how Hontou ni sou omou? wasn't the first name for this blog and I had toyed with calling it: GAAN! The Horrible Revelation during the switchover from the first name but, with the hontouni.com domain, I've more or less thrown in my lot with the S.I.S.C.O.N. Alliance. If we ever succeed in recruiting Nauzron (aka Mrs Stripey), I would suggest 'Hontou ni Hentai desu' as her blog's name - of course that would mean that the focus of her blog would be meta-blogging about Stripey's entries.
Domain name tied to blog name is a lot less flexible than using a domain name based on the owner's name though. Jeff Lawson's Nowhere Anime Blog was in a sub-directory while Hop! Step! Jump! is located in a subdomain of the same domain. moyism's 11~15% suki to zero thoughts (and then back again) involved moving between sub-directories. Jason Miao's renaming from 'Anime on My Mind' to 'Derailed by Darry' was just that, a name change, with the URL conveniently staying put at anime.miao.us.
Of course such niceties did not trouble the renaming of Sea Slugs! Anime Blog to the Ender and Kungfucius Anime Blog. Hontounia supports the rebellion! I also keep thinking of what jpmeyer might have said if he had accidentally left out an 'i' when registering his embarrassed domain after the move from his (now deleted) HOT BLOODED PASSION wordpress blog. And there was the domain (non)renewal mishap when the Ikimashou gang had to find a new home world on dasaku.net.
Have any other fellow animu bloggers been held back from changing their blog names due to the sunk costs of the (sub)domain name/URL? Or experienced general doramaz and adventures in blog (re)naming? Given how attached one can get to a blog or domain name and how it may affect how others' first impressions of the 'brand', this is might well be a case where a rose called 'cow dung' would probably not smell as sweet.

I once thought that when we got married we’d merge our blog into like “Hazukashii Hitorigoto” but then I realized it would be too much of a pain to deal with combining posts/images espeically considering how much more I have than JP does. Hence why I don’t mind that my blog title has nothing to do with the domain

You can always just buy another domain name and have it redirect. For instance, right now kabitzin.com redirects to seaslugteam.com (mwahaha). However, as Hinano has alluded to, I’m not sure how easy it would be to import two blogs into one database.
I still fondly remember the Hand of Gory days, a name that even had a pun in it (as well as that disturbing hand-wound picture in the header). We were originally trying for seaslugs.com, but it was already taken. I’m pretty happy with the name now, though, and it makes the Azumanga origins a bit more clear. I think it would be hard for us at this point to change the domain name, though I am not completely sure how closely people associate our domain name with our site name.
BTW, Nauzron joining Stripey on his blog could set up a showdown with Hinano/JP and I think the head writers at The Anime Blog for a best married couples blog.

Man, I freaking double-checked my typing so many times before hitting the submit button when I was regging the domain.

I kind of wish that I registered a new domain for HappySoda. I’d had the domain for a while and just decided to install WordPress on it as an experiment in blogging. It wasn’t even an anime figure blog at first, but a sketch and what I ate blog. Stopped drawing for a while, but now that I have started again, I wish I had the HappySoda domain back for what it was originally meant for.

Hinano, GATTAI FTW! Ender’s already joined up your names as HinJP. But merging databases and permalinks would be such a pain that it’s not worth it. Last year’s April Fool’s Joke when JP said he deleted your blog! Good grief, now even blogs must go into the prenups!
Kabitzin, your memory is scary! That hand wound still hurts a bit though.
Redirect is a good way of doing it but I think hontouni has been quite fortunate because most other bloggers updated their links to us and the aggregators also speeded things along.
jp, at least the chances of the domain being taken already were quite slim.
super rats, and due in part to the ABA, the HappySoda domain is becoming ever MOAR associated with your excellent figurine photography and reviews. Funny how things turn out as a result of what seemed to be relatively minor decision at the time. So what would you have called the figure blog other than HappySoda?
P.S. The site seems to be experiencing some problems… Error establishing database connection. WTH…

Have no idea, but it would be something gross.^^

The good thing about THAT is that it is such a common word that you can just make it anyway you want it. It’s flexible that way ^^
And considering the stupidity and ridiculous behavior of my other bloggers, they probably will try to change it to TRAP ANIME BLOG. So no thank you. I will never change the brand name. Maybe I will just change the abbreviation to “The Holistic Anime Team” or some rather lame name.

My blog used to be called “Hikari no Shiawase” but then I figured since it was more of a team blog, I’d have “Yukan Blog!” instead, plus the fact that it also advertises new writers to join as in You Can (Yukan) Blog!

Man, I once had a graphic site called Destiny Moon Designs…after I registered the domain, I realized that I had spelled designs and desgins….that made me angry. I forgot to double check…
Now, I double check and made sure I spelled my domain name right. I don’t want to make the same mistake twice…

OMG, I never put the “You Can Blog” title together, but that is so awesome!!!
