My favourite class of tsundere – Tsundere ojousama

Like imoutos, tsunderes are not created equal. There are the forgettable tsundere-wannabes who exists to fill pandering character niches and there are the worthy ones who are the cornerstones of anime. There are 2 further sub-classes of these memorable tsunderes whom I find to be more convincing by virtue of their circumstances - the siscon imouto and ojousamas. The siscon imouto's suppression her taboo affections and the ojousama's conflict of pride vs love both achieve good tsundere effect. There's just simply more behavioural justifications for these 2 character templates.
Anyhow, putting tribute to the latter tsundere type (we take a break from my siscon rants today), here's a list of my favourite ojou-tsunderes in anime.
Eri [School Rumble] - (Blonde + Twin-tailed)^Tsundere = SR's true star
Adilicia [Rental Magica] - (Blonde + green-eyed + princess curls)^Tsundere = WANT!!
Louise [Zero no tsukaima] - (Pink haired + nobility + lolicious)^Tsundere = Tanuki love!
Takako [Otouboku] - (Seitokaichou + stammering)^(Ultra tsundere) = WIN!
Hinagiku [Hayate to gotoku] - (Pink hair + seitokaichou)^Tsundere = LUURVE!!
Mikoto [AIR] - (Wings + stammering)^Tsundere = AIR DVDs
Rin [Fate/Stay Night] (2up + zettai ryouiki)^Tsundere = Makes Shiro bearable
Hinako [Myself; Yourself] (light haired + Twin tail + loli)^Tsundere = Section 376!!
Still deliberating if Haruhi belongs to the list since she's neither of royal blood or filthy rich. But hey, if Mikoto's on it....

What about violent tsunderes like Chidori Kaname? ^^; She’s probably the only tsundere in my Toplist for anime girls.
Heh.

While I understand Hinagiku > Nagi, wouldn’t Nagi still at least qualify given the criteria?
(Blonde + Twin-tailed + filthy rich)^Tsundere = this

HEHE My Princess is a real life tsundere ojousama… even has the hair curls. ENVY ME.

I agree with many of these, although I found Louise to be simply annoying, since she resets every season. I believe that Takako deserves special mention for “fearful side” + “conflicted about yuri, but willing to give shoujo-ai a chance”.

I also vote Reika Houjou from Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun for this category.

Yes to Adelicia — she was the only character that made Rental Magica bearable for me. LOL @ Hinako though. You know you want to!

If your favorite tsundere is oujosama….is your favorite oujosama tsundere???

While I greatly despise siscon imouto tsunderes, I can agree on my love of the tsundere ojou-sama. However, some of your selections are off categorically, while others are right on.
I’d dispute Louise in this category, because to me the tsundere ojou-sama classification to me means maturity, at least on the outside. And an abusive loli fails in that respect. In fact, abusive tsunderes are a completely separate classification to me.
Hinako I’d also disagree on for similar fronts because she is even more loli, but she’s at least not abusive.
The rest I generally agree with, the highest marks going to Tsundere Hall of Fame members Eri, Rin, Hina, and Takako.

I consider Louise to be a swear word

Such a harsh tone from someone who posts images that are not owned by him/herself.

To be honest, this is really the only good type of tsundere because it’s justified because she was raised in high society. Everyone else is just a bitch.

Ah Stripey, you’re SO right ^_^
(I definitely prefer the ojousama tsundere template over pretty much every other type. They tend to be the most complex and also most enjoyable characters in the various shows)

Eri and Rin : They are the text book examples of Tsundere-Ojousama.
Adilicia : Isn’t she all deredere when Itsuki is concerned?
Louise : Definitely not an Ojousama type. She is more a Sadist then a tsundere.
Takako : For me, Jujou Shion >> Takako .
Hinagiku : I just can’t consider her as tsundere, as most of her actions have valid reason and rarely did she give out too much punishment, nor did she ever fail to acknowledge a favor done to her. Being overly competitive does not mean she is Tsundere. Gah! This reminds me of Geometry class when talking about Rhombus and Rectangles.
Mikoto: Spoiled Brat is not Tsundere, but she may have grown into being a tsundere before her demise.
Hinako: She is Loli-Tsundere.
Now for history lesson:
Ben-ten (Urusei Yatsura): She is a princess and a rough girl, but although she was one of template for tsundere, there exist too much difference to call her one. It is like one of dinosaurs being an ancestor of chicken.
Hayase Misa (Macross): Most can’t believe that this ‘Sour Puss’ beat out perhaps the greatest Anime Idol in history. She was following the old classic, angry at first, in love at last pattern in most romance novels, so calling her a tsundere is a stretch.
Ayukawa Madoka ( Kimagure Orangeroad ) : This, my friends, is the model all those Tsundere-Ojousamas try to emulate. A Girl who is good at anything she set her mind upon, and one of the best fighter in the story, she is someone whom everyone expect to be tsundere, but the weird truth is, that she is not. A Tsundere never quite lose her tsun side even to the end, as that tendency is hard-wired into her brain. Madoka rarely lost her temper and she very seldom punished Kasuka Kyousuke even when she is angry. She is more prone to become disappointed then angry, and when punishment was dealt, it was less severe than what was warranted. Her initial bad girl impression has made her the prototype for Tsundere, and her maturity and perfection made her appear as tsundere-ojousama, yet those are mostly illusions she created, not what she is.
Soryu Asuka (Evangellion) : She started out like Tsundere-Ojousama, became mere Tsundere, and in end just an unstable kid.

BV,
Are you a trap too?
I’d appreciate any feedback from others who’ve experienced the same problem.

Skane: heh Kaname’s tsundere and very beautiful alright.
Just that she doesn’t quite have the ojou-aura
Crisu: Nagi is surely ojou and tsundere but the serie’s overbanking of her misunderstanding with Hayate stifled her growth hence endearment
tj han: Princess curls!?! *bows down* That’s surely ojou-esque
Kabitzin / Mitsurugi Mania: I get around the Louise problem by erasing S2 from my memory.. sorry what was I saying again? XD
tCi: I didn’t finish Ninomiya but I found Reika to be very flat. She fits the template perfectly of course… maybe a bit too pefectly
kaz3phyrous: LOL! Yeah tsunderella… one of the funniest DVD-OVA I’m seen in a while XD
Koji Oe/Mentar: *hi-fives both* Although I’d also recommend siscon imouto-tsunderes which comes a close 2nd for me XD
maglor: thx for the review of the tsunderes in aime history. Shion is undoubtedly THE girl for Mizuho. I have no doubt that they got married in the not so distant future after the series
aurabolt: I only caught the anime and Tokiha wasn’t much of a tsundere in there
Man they need a Tsukihime-remake with the kohaku route baaaad…
Owen S: I’m not going down alone!! XD
totali: hmm that’s a nice probing question. Off-hand I’d say no since one of my favourite ojous is Lacus.
Calawain: heh I think we differ on the definition of ojou. I focus more on the status rather than maturity. Though isn’t tsundere and maturity diametrically opposing? XD
Zyl: tanomu zo, aniki! XD

well that cleared up my meaning of a tsundere. thanks man

you’re most welcome! although ‘tsundere’ does take on slightly different hues for some fans. Still the overall idea is consistent.
