Upgrading to Wordpress 2.5 was Hontou ni Taihen desu
This is Zyl here making a few notes on the transition upgrade from WP 2.3.3 to WP 2.5. Immediately, post-upgrade, Stripey was unable to gain access to his dashboard, the blog was showing the error message: 'Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_register_sidebar_widget() in URL /wp- admin/ includes /dashboard. php on line 31'
A Google search indicated that this was specifically a K2 problem and a surprisingly simple solution had been posted in a WordPress support forum thread: just rename the K2 theme directory to something else. I had fortuitously and unknowingly avoided this problem during my own upgrade because I had multiple K2 versions and thus different directory names to begin with.
I had an awful time trying to adjust the blog width (and correspondingly the main column and sidebar widths). There're lots of K2 styling tutorials all over the intarwebs but apparently this is such a simple mod that no one bothers to write it down. orz It didn't help that sometime most of the tutorials were predicated on the changes being made to the stylesheet but for the RC5 nightly that I'm using, almost everything was shifted into an uneditable core file. 'Learn CSS u n00b.' OTL
I don't *want* to learn CSS, it's all magic to me - I just want to blog. OTL OTL In the end, the solution was really simply too. When the slow train finally arrived in my mind, I eventually realized that I could just cut and paste the old RC1 stylesheet (with all the necessary widths already painstakingly formulated through lots of trial and error by Stripey) into a sample.css file (also added the lines for the custom header image and rotate script), dump it into the style sub-directory without knowing or caring about CSS syntax. *Does a Boris: Yes! I am invincible!* Meanwhile CSS does the same: Yes! I am invincibly idiot proof!
The easier changes were implementing LMB^Box Comment Quicktags and WP AJAX Edit Comments on HNTD. If you notice any problems, please leave a comment or email either parties of the S.I.S.C.O.N. alliance (Zyl Nee Hontounia or Stripey Nii Hontounia).

Yep, I had a small problem upgrading WordPress too, it messed up my login page and we couldn’t log into the admin account. Luckily this was all fixed with a good ‘ol fresh install of Wordpress.. *_*
Truly a taihen situation o_o

I had some taihen stuff happening too. I can’t upload anything through the dashboard, and WP-Postratings doesn’t work. Wordpress.org, release 2.5.1 already!

Pssh, K2. Everyone knows Mandigo is going to take over the world!
In any case, glad to hear you’ve got all those problems sorted out. WP 2.5 was worth it… until WP 2.5.1 rolls around, at any rate.

Lenners, CTRL-ALT-DEL type solution FTW.
Nosgoroth, I still rely on FTP for uploading so I haven’t tried that feature out yet. If 2.5.1 is released, hopefully it will fix more problems than it creates. Bad memories of the 2.1.x (esp 11-13) upgrades.
Owen S, I’m old fashioned like that. LOL Actually the choice of K2 was due to code stalking Sea Slugs! but Kabitzin has left us in the dust with Sandbox which is just too much for me to deal with. I’m really relieved and grateful that K2 continues to be maintained so I’ll be sticking with it for the foreseeable future.

That sounds kind of like… the more things change, the more they stay the same =P

Zyl: Thanks bro! I REALLY appreciate it! But no, I’m not converting to onee-ism even with that fantabulous Signum pic. Imouto-con 4eva!!

Hmm…I really want to upgrade to 2.5 soon too but I’m using K2 as well…really getting the jitters now.

I’d say go for it
Just rename your K2 files to something else

I also thought modifying the width of my theme would be hard, but once I had a go at it, found it was actually quite simple. And yes, I did write it down…
