Nagi sends Hayate out on an errand in order to prepare a surprise 'Congratulations on your promotion to the next level of high school' party. But not before saying some hurtful things. With her words in his mind, an elite butler courier firm attempts to headhunt Hayate, promising to pay off his debts. Hina-chan thinks about how she'd like to congratulate Hayate too.

But I suppose I should be grateful to Synergy SP for throwing at least some small crumbs, these scraps of Hinagiku to us fanboys. Why then does the sound of teeth gnashing surround sound at the end of this post and the penultimate episode of this animu series?

… because they will find a way to pair Hayate and Nagi up, even though the manga’s yet to get that far?
You know they’ll do it. It’s not quite the level of demotion that Minami-ke got after Asread got to it, but… well, this series has been a bit of a downer so far. They had all that material to work with.. and wasted it. Sorta like Asread’s take on Minami-ke after Doumu’s superb entry.

The biggest problem is that the whole setup of the story breaks down if Hayate becomes romantically involved with Hinagiku or Maria. I believe, if any ending other than Nagi ending is to occur, there has to be an episode where Hayate gets to pay off his entire debt.

maglor: He already had one shot… but Nagi blew it for him. Because it’s funnier that way.
That’s pretty much what it comes down to – if it’s tragic and funny… it’ll happen. Which means a pairing is unlikely, because it just isn’t… or at least, that’s how the manga’s going. Anime? It’s SynergySP’s spin, and they’re likely to keep pushing Nagi despite her underagedness, because she’s the heroine and she’s voiced by Kugimiya Rie.
