Uragirimono! Converting to Kyou-ism

Sorry Ryou, but I don't believe any hotblooded male can resist your sister after ep 17

I love shows that forces me to reassess my love for the bishoujos as the series progresses. SHUFFLE! was one such production where I began as an Asa shipper, moving over to Kaede after her arc but finally settling on the clear winner, Primula. Prior to ep 17, Ryou would have topped my Clannad bishoujo list. Exuding a demure sweetness that tanukis are exceptionally susceptible to, Ryou is perfect wife material. That is until the realisation what great mistress material her onee-san is made of. Since mistress pawnz wife in most matrimonial match-ups, conversion to Kyou-ism naturally occurred. Personally I believe Kyou (and maybe Tomoyo) is the best match for Tomoya. You can't have gentle souls like Nagisa or Ryou who neither have the wits nor bite to contain Tomoya.

Anyhow, Kyou has rekindled my fire for thigh-highs and bloomers Clannad. Can't wait to see the climatic Kyou-Ryou symmetrical docking resolution.

No.. not with those mesmerising eyes, Kyou chan...

  1. For what it’s worth, Kyou is the closest thing to a secondary heroine in CLANNAD – though she hasn’t quite achieved twin-billing status (a la Nayuki in Kanon).

  2. So typical! …but I’ll never lead the Fuuko fanclub! Never!

  3. and by lead I mean leave! …leading would be fine.. :3

  4. The real question is… Kyou.. or Noe? ;)

  5. When are the writers going to stop dragging their feet and pair up Sunohara and Tomoyo? It’s been obvious from the start that Sunohara has a thing for Tomoyo and it’s the one move that Tomoyo may not have an answer for.

  6. After ep 17, I’m thinking Kyou is possibly the best heroine Key ever produced…it’s a pity she has a snowball’s chance in hell of winning…

  7. Unfortunately her arc is too standalone for serious consideration and adoption as the “winner,” as well as the fact that Clannad the game is primarily about Nagisa. However, that does not mean she is not one of the most delicious tsunderes ever and deserves massive blog coverage of her thigh highs and dere dere moments (which she has received).

  8. dsong: I thought Youhei had a thing for Mei? Heh, pardon my siscon leanings :P Sunohara is too flighty to be boyfriend material. He needs to grow up first. :P Then again maybe Tomoyo can tame him into a real man :)

totali: I support mahou shoujo fuuka… then again I support mahou shoujo Kyou more XD

Derek: I’d hit on both and see how dump me first. Both are just too good to pass up on! XD *Bad Stripey! Bad!*

suguru: Kyou is indeed worthy but to clinch my top KyoAni-Key heroine position, she’d have to get part Shiori and Kano first… :)

Calawain: Indeed and deserving is she of all these love. :) I just hope the Nagisa arc is worth Kyou abdicating as Clannad main heroine.

  9. You are highly underestimating Nagisa who helps Tomoya and grasps his heart on a much deeper level!

  10. As Jason has suggested if Kyou snags Tomoya, she might feel guilty enough to share with Ryou. Giving some serious Yuritwincest.

    Also KYOU IS BI!!!! :D

  11. Kyou is the most exciting heroine in the Clannad, but Tomoya needs Nagisa.

  12. If Kyou didn’t have thigh-highs and a gym outfit, how many supporters would she have? XD I guess she’s a tsundere so that will guarantee a fanbase; I like her relatively sane, level-headed side but the straight-up tsundere-ness isn’t my deal. I do like how she seems willing to sacrifice her love life for Ryou, though. Smacks of good Hisui/Kohaku dynamics.

Overall I’d say good character, but not the Clannad character I’d fall on my sword for.

Personally, I’m a Tomoyo supporter, in that she’s like Kyou, except with more badassitude and less of an obvious crush on Tomoya. She’s good at being friends first, and I hope to see what can develop from Tomoyo’s discovery of her feminine side.

Good to see that you like Ryou as well, at least in part; she is so meltingly adorable, and I’d take wife material anyday. (Although, in Clannad, that’s probably ground for polygamy XD)

  13. I don’t know… I was more leaning towards Tomoyo’s divine thighs seen at point-blank range by Tomoya.

  14. I’ve disliked her ever since she ruined my Nagisa x Tomoya scene in episode 15. ^^

  15. Well, good to know that you have converted to Kyou-ism! I went from Kyou to Nagisa when the series started, but halfway through the series (and after finishing the Kyou-line in the Clannad game) I began to feel a stronger love for Kyou than any other of the characters.

I know this wish will not be fullfilled, but I deeply hope that Clannad will end up with Kyou as the girl getting Tomoya, as her line is in my opinion the best in the game. That being said, I haven’t tried Nagisa’s yet, so I don’t know how much more suiting that ending is for the anime.

  16. Hinano/maglor: heh, I have no doubt Nagisa is a wonderful friend and impetus for growth for Tomoya but for her to climb to qualify as a lover, I feel she needs to be on the same plane as Tomoya intellectually. I’m being anime-idealistic here of course :)

Xellos-_^: We need Jason to infiltrate KyoAni and have the script changed :)

CCY: Oh yes, hisui/kohaku is another pair of twins that I’d fight the civil authorities to abolish the bigamy laws. XD Time of another list I think :)

Beowulf Lee: We need more thigh highs in our sunny island republic! Looks like I should enter politics and made thigh highs mandatory school uniform… for girl only of course XD

Taiyaki: All’s fair in love and war :)

flaskis: From the buzz around, it looks like Nagisa’s tale is the most potent of the lot much like Ayu’s in Kanon, so I’m still looking forward to it. :) We just need a “Kyou After” XD

  17. I had a feeling she was going to be extremely popular after the first episode. Looks like I might be a slightly correct, too. XD

Anyway, Kyou is awesome, but nothing so far from her can make me detract from Tomoyo-ism.

  18. Welcome to Kyou-ism! ^_^

  19. But Stripey, I seriously think that we will get a second “season” of Clannad, but much more like a reset button that will trigger the Nagisa route and the after-story. It’s moving towards that a bit, seeing as how they’ve started working on Kyou and Tomoyo. Because of this, and me having played both Kyou and Tomoyo now, I cannot see how they will dwelve into the Ryou/Kyou relationship and both of their affections for Tomoya and meanwhile starting on Tomoyo too. Both of their routes end in a way that have some real endings that cannot be skipped, which makes it impossible to suddenly start on Nagisa’s scenario.

Besides that, rumour has it that KyoAni will do two more seasons on Haruhi for 2008/2009, and this leaves a two-cour blank in their schedule. Knowing this, and seeing how long the after-story in Clannad is, which is tied to Nagisa’s route, I find it more and more likely that they will do a second run of Clannad later on.

But until then, I’m still wishing that we will get a Kyou ending, because her ending was just so beautiful in the game that I wish to see that in the anime. Also, here’s a pic of my latest figure purchase for you: Clicky for Kyou-ism!

  20. Well I can only hope that flaskis’s theory is right even tho I’m faithful follower of Tomoyo-ism (after finishing her line in game). But I can settle for Kyou ending in anime as well (after all these thigh highs!) And then we can hope for anime based on Tomoyo after (I’m still waiting for someone to make translation of the game :S ) but Kyou after sounds good as well.

  21. O.D: Tomoyo is awesome too. Something about Student Council Presidents (Hinagiku in Hayate no Gotoku, Takako in Otoboku) that’s alluring even if she’s a only a Presidential contender at the moment. :) But man, those thigh-highs are hard to beat… XD

    Hi-fives abao!

flaskis/Kain: I’m under the impression that the premise is built around Nagisa (the robot thingy with the offworldly Nagisa) so I’d think the series would need to conclude on a Nagisa arc :P I certainly wouldn’t mind a Kyou/Ryou focus for the finale though that might upset expectations for Clannad :)

    Xellos-_^: Can’t. stop. the. nosebleed…..

  22. Well, my predictions were off. I want to say this without spoiling, but the pain I feel after seeing episode 18 is too much for me to bear. Kyou!!! :(

  23. Just saw ep 18…. man is that the end of Kyou/Ryou/Tomoyo arcs? :(

  24. While Kyou may be one of the best characters (I like her more than Nagisa). Tomoya x Nagisa is still imo the best pairing. While it’s been clear throught the anime how Tomoya only likes Nagisa (Fuuko’s arc was basicly done because of Nagisa, he only cares so much about Tomoyo getting in since that would mean insta drama club revival) the game shows how much emotional support they give eachother. Nagisa brings out the best of Tomoya without even trying heh. She’s the “true” girl after all, her after story arc is longer than all the other girls combined (Well unless you count Tomoyo after which is another game).

  25. Stripey it seems so. I’m sooo sad because of that because I must say I’m not very found of Nagisa. For me Tomoyo is the best girl in Clannad and Kyou is right after her and both of them got cut short because of Nagisa :(

  26. Kyou for saimoe!

  27. Unfortunately for Kyou lovers, Nagisa eventually wins out in the end ▼ Show

. She is the trigger for much of Tomoya’s change and development▼ Show

    .

  28. I shouldn’t have read that spoiler!

  29. If it’s any consolation ▼ Show

. So You COULD see that as something of an opening for Kyou to still ‘win’ Tomoya.

  30. Flamestrike: Yeah it’s hard to make the distinction sometimes between the best girl in the series and best girl for the male lead. :) I’m looking forward more than ever to Nagisa’s closing arc now that I realise some of the other girl’s arcs are built upon it. :)

Kain: I was hoping for more drama with Ryou/Kyou. Tomoyo got her story told but it felt kinda condensed. Pity :P Hoping Nagisa’s arc is worth it. :)

abao: Heh, sadly saimoe has the history of electing lolicious characters for the throne. Our babelicious Kyou is unlikely to stand a chance. Still a vote from me when the time comes! :)

Myssa Rei: Heh will click on that spoiler when I’m done with Clannad :)

    Derek: Took your advice! :P

  31. Well, it’s not really as much a spoiler as you might think, but it’s very likely only the people who played the game to its logical After Story end will appreciate it (Haruhi knows the amount of screaming I got from my friend when I casually dropped those tidbits in a conversation that WASN’T about CLANNAD in the first place). Which makes me wonder HOW they’re going to squeeze so much, erm, leftover story into the remaining episodes.

While I have great faith in KyoAni’s ability to integrade disperate game arcs (as an example, in Fuuko’s arc, Nagisa doesn’t appear AT ALL) into a greater whole, I’m worried that the limited episode span alloted to CLANNAD will shortchange the folks expecting After Story (not Tomoyo After, but the real one), as that’s where, really, the Family theme gets its real time in the sun.

  32. Oh dear, there’s a After story? I wonder now if I can endure 6 weeks without spoiling myself silly with Clannad :P Thanks for the spoiler-free clarification though I’m not sure how to moderate my expectations of the series now that I know there seems to be a great deal of material uncovered. :)
