ARIA The Origination 3
My toes were curling in horror as I watched this episode, fearful as I was that Akari being set up the bomb with Patissier-oniichan. I will NOT allow any BGR in my yuri innuendo waterworld fantasy land!!!
The whole thing starts when the trio, taking a break from their studies, see the patissier selling heart-shaped chocolates in Saint Mark's Square. One of the boys trips, falls and breaks his cute lil' glass bottle containing the chocolates. Little brat wails but eventually but is finally placated with a new bottle.
[Crabby Curmudgeonly Rant] I just kept thinking - who sells candy in fragile glass bottles to little kids? If there were the Land of the 'CONTENTS HOT' Coffee, the patissier would have been sued faster than you can say 'Choco' or if it's the Isle of Health and Safety Regulations Gone Mad, then it'll be the government doing it instead. [/rant]
The patissier gets really affected when Akari laments how sad it is for the wasted choco. The girls get concerned when the stall doesn't appear the next day and they sight the sighing patissier around Neo Venezia. Eventually Akari catches up with him at Cafe Florian and he's not lovesick or anything. False alarm! He was thinking of ways to better package his chocolate. Or something. In any case, the new container certainly looks much more lawyer/bureaucrat-proof. The episode ends with them not even finding out each other's names; he calls Akari undine-jousan and he remains Patissier-san. Phew. [Correction: He's got a name, it's Anri. See Totali's post.]
On a brighter note, I absolute love how Aika and Alice snipe at each other, with brilliant inflections of 'Kou~hai~chan!' and 'Aika-senpai', conveying condescension and sarcasm in the way that only really good friends can do to each other.
The manager at Cafe Florian just reminds me of some minor crazed circus ringleader-type villain from some anime a few years ago... Pirouette or something... Anyway, I think he looks evil.

Ah, the Cafe owner makes a return I see. I have to admit that I was a little creeped out when he first was introduced in the Natural (the laugh that wasn’t).

Oh, and being the huge loser fan as far as character relationship shipping is concerned, I’m strongly siding with Admiral Erica. Maybe my goggles are over-tuned or something but I just can’t get my mind off the subtlety whenever I read/watch the series. *Runs even further away from Akari’s supporters*
Ah~ But no matter how it turns out in the end, I’ll be one happy fan if everyone stays their usual happy selves ARIA-style. That would be a classic closing curtain to the series.
Anyway, it’s too early for that. Keep the episodes and great reviews coming!

When Akari mentioned that the chocolates were ‘pitiful’, I almost expected her to reveal some deep truth about her past. Seriously, I’ve been playing too many Key games.

If I recall, Akari is the beau of Cait Sith, but Akatsuki was trying to enter the game. Noe the patissier-san… He is a good person, and he will make a good but boring couple with Akari. We all know that Aika and Al digs each other, and at this pace, Alice will soon have a boy admirer of her own…
About Akatsuki, wouldn’t it just boil his blood if someone like his brother or Woody ends up with Alicia? I know that has no chance but, I would love to see Akatsuki’s face if Alicia and one of the boys pretend to go out together.
If Aria was a far-out fantasy, we may see Akari become a goddess of Aqua before she becomes a Prima.

Aika x Al. ‘Old man jokes are forbidden.’ I’m in complete denial about that of course LOL; just find it hard to see them as a couple and think of Aika’s attraction as more of a teenage crush than anything. It’s kind of like how Miyuki x Natsumi is soooo much cooler than Miyuki x Ken Nakajima. Ahaha~

Funny – I think Choco no Oniisan is the perfect match for Akari.
But I agree kids, glass and cobblestones don’t mix. Oh and hey, good lesson the kid learned too – don’t worry if you act like an idiot, there’ll be no consequences!
