2007 in review

What better way to usher in 2008 than a post about 2007? This is not a top 10 list since a quick stocktaking made me realise I have completed less than 20 anime (discounting movies/OVAs) this year. While I would be reporting my financial damage, there wouldn't be pretty graphs like Adun's. Nevertheless, it's a good exercise to consolidate such figures as I work on my anime-related resolutions for the new year. And so here's representing my passion for The Great ArtTM in 3 areas.
Anime seen
Using Omni's as a checklist for the series I have seen this year, it's humbling to know how few anime productions I have caught this year.
Completed - 15
Dropped - 9
Still watching - 6 (Discounting series airing into 2008)
Of course it's omitting OVAs, movies and a couple of older series I have only seen this year. Despite the miserly figure, I still found it to be a tad too much for my intake. My anime-related resolution is the same every year. Watch less, watch only the best. That brings me to the dropped section. Dropped doesn't mean I caught ep 1, chucked it and chalked up one here. Many of these series dropped at mid-series or even near the end and collectively represent a substantial amount of time which I want back.
Anime merchandise expenditure
Below are approximate figures for 4 classes of my anime-related spendings for 2007.
Anime DVDs (16 series) ~ S$1200
Figures (18 pieces) ~ S$1300
Artbooks (11 collections) ~ S$400
Others (OSTs, etc) ~ S$120
And so the total damage for 2007 is just a little over S$3000. While I had factored in the budget for figures, the accelerated DVD purchases undid my financial planning. Still, I'm still a loooong way from the Overlord of anime expenditure, Grandmaster Moy, rising star, Adun and Dancing Queen (who bought a staggering 60 figures just this year alone). My utmost respect to their direct/tangible form of fueling The PassionTM.
Anime blog
Believe it or not, Hontou ni taihen desu is entering its 5th year of anime blogging and yet to crack its 500th post. There were 103 posts in 2007 - a good 20% less than 2006 and looking at my commitments for 2008, the numbers look set to decline. Still, this tanuki just refuses to go away. In fact, I hope to introduce other co-blogger(s) in 20 yrs time, if Haruhi willing, a son who loves mahou shoujo or a daughter who enjoys eroge conversions.
This would also be a good time to thank all the fellow bloggers and readers for enhancing so tremendously my anime experience by interacting through this or other blogs. Here's wishing all another great year in The Great ArtTM.
Edit: Moy-sama has posted his own expenditure. A staggering USD8000. All anime acolytes bow down now! XD

Posts will probably pick up if 2008 explodes with “Tanuki-approved” content. ^^;
Cheers.

Glad to see you’ve still got the juice. Keep it coming till 2020, you’ll be sorely missed if you drop anytime now!

Congrats on 4+ years!
You really oughtta get a big rubber stamp or a golden seal that says “Tanuki Approved” on it, so that you can slap it on appropriate products that meet your standards for excellence.
…and by “excellence”, I mean “lolis”, of course.

Congrats on 4 years. Wouldn’t we all love to have a son that is into mahou shoujo or a daughter who enjoys eroge conversions.

How about being ‘blessed’ with a son and a daughter who also love each other Da Capo style?
January 2nd, 2008 - 18:55
I was going to say something to congratulate you, but Orion said it already.
But why use words when I can use a quick 60-second sketch?

i can actually see a post about, as Zyl mentioned, your future son and daughter who love each other Da capo style 20 years from now… XD
just don’t forget to train your son well since every great harem lead starts his harem in his childhood…
and congratulations on your 5th year…
hoping to see the post i mentioned in 20 years time… XD

Congrats on another full year of blogging!
FYI, I’m from Singapore too… and WONDERING HOW YOU SPENT S$3k on all that o.O
Thankfully enough, none of your DVDs seem to have hit the shredders at our local censorship board =) you have to teach me how you do that soon, haha!

Doh! Totally forgot to count all my crap. Meant to do it to see how pathetic I am with money
I’m afraid seeing the potentially large numbers will make me a bit depressed (while a little happy at the same time?). Meh.

Congrats Stripey! Hope to see more of your thoughts on anime and related themes in 2008… Never give up, such is the life of an hobbyist of any kind.

yarrrrrrrrrrr and down we fly into 2008….

$3000 eh? I wish I had spent that little on anime-related products last year. ^^; Then again, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
My expenditure breakdown is very different from yours though, since my focus is on model kits and not figurines.
If I started collecting figurines too… I would probably need to add another $1500+ to the yearly anime expenditure list. o_O;
Cheers.

Thanks all! Wouldn’t have lasted so long if not for fabulous bloggers/readers like yourselves to boost that anime flame
Kabitzin: It’s hard to found pure/honourable tanukis who appreciate moe and loliciousness in a balanced manner. Which is why I’m going to nurture my own co-blogger
Skane: Speaking of Tanuki approved material… TCS dramas seem to be rife with siscon overtones lately. Most recently, sex between two non-blood related siblings at the 9pm slot. They finally catching on huh? Pity the imouto in question is nowhere as cute/lovable as Nemu XD
Orion: Must. resist. making. stamp…. XD
Zyl/kaz3phyrous: First I need to pick up a non-blood related, kawaii daughter… XD
Sixten: Tanuki in bed with a loli! XD *hides pic from wife* Great sketch as usual. Thanks for the gift!
Hiyuu: Heh, if you don’t mind R3s (with chinese subs), there’s a shop on level 2 of Chinatown point selling Taiwanese R3s. For R1s, I ask my good bro, Zyl to bring them in for me… and he censors nothing

Whoa, almost 5 years. I just hit the 100 post mark myself, and I’ve only been at the game for nine or so months… guess I’ve got some catching up to do. Here’s to many more years of blogging! Happy New Year to you.

Owen S: Happy new year to you too! 100 posts in 9 months is very impressive given how quality your posts are.
Have a great aniblogging year in 2008!
