Bamboo Blade 10

Pink-Black Ranger MiyaMiya meets her match, in both senses of the word, in Evil Psychotic Stalker Reimi who had been flagged up by Mentar earlier (though, at the time, I thought he and Dav were talking about CLANNAD orz). With a fun mix of motivations, the team works towards the goal of the inter-high.

Miya Miya provides buckets of entertainment whenever she's on screen. This time, the range of her facial expressions when she recounts her Reimi stalking trauma, her amazement at what Tama-chan wants to spend her part-time wages on, and suddenly remembering Dan The Man's birthday.

Family background and more Ishida-sensei flashbacks but my reaction is the same as Kirino's.

Idiocy of cute teenage girls can be entertaining and even endearing. Idiocy of 30+ male loser teacher is neither. BTW KiriSaya love-love umbrella looks sooo good in the OP, especially Sayako.

Like Totali and TL-chan, I've been really intrigued by how freaked out Miya Miya is by Reimi. As we've seen Miya Miya is not shrinking violet and has an aggressive and formidable personality. Definitely someone who don't want to piss off.

But it was also cute and funny how she was surprised by Tama-chan's ninja powers of suddenly appearing behind her without a sound. Reminded me a bit of Gibbs appearing behhind Tony in NCIS - another show whose stories are less than compelling but have lots of charismatic characters.

A final note. I just love how this series has conveyed a person's aura. There's Miya Miya's pink-black but also Andou Yuri's nattou aura and now Reimi's venus flytraps and Rafflesia, though the plant analogies (particularly the reference to weird smells) reminds me of the yuri-filled Hotaruko (aka Crimson Climax). -_-;;

  1. lol that pretty funny

  2. Are the characters wonderful or not?

MiyaMiya as MIP (most interesting person) in the entire show, basically every scene depicting her is golden. Dan the man as consistently-underestimated sidecar driver. I mean – when the show began it was clear that he was merely comical relief, right? However, throughout the entire show, he shows genuine care AND consideration for MiyaMiya. I’m not laughing at her choice anymore.

Kirino and Saya are wonderful, great persons on their own and just adorable as a cheerleader team. Just wait for their antics when they’ll try to nab Satori (should be around ep12)

If anything, I consider Tama a little bit simple. But eventually even she will outgrow her shell as unbeatable kendo moeblob.

Yuji is just nice, and Kojirou is just enough of a mixture of manic dork AND occasional grown-up wisdom that I couldn’t dislike him.

And then of course Reimi… just wait and see ^_^

    What a lovely show.

  3. Mentar, it seems that Tama-chan provides the ‘character growth’ angle, she has been and will continue to change as she continues to interact with the rest of the gang.

I also agree with your observation a few ep posts ago that most of the characters are stereotypical but are so much more interesting and fun because of a little twist: Miya Miya as yandere but with a genuinely warm and loving relationship with Dan The Man whom I had initially discounted even as a supporting chara but now I recognize his Manness and so on. The growth/change angle for them has been coming from their kendo-induced increased mutual interaction.

I also loved Lucky Star, first and foremost, for its characterizations and character interactions and still rewatch the whole series (sans Lucky Channel) with great pleasure now. Bamboo Blade has been fitting this slot for me over the past weeks very nicely indeed.

  4. lol I wonder why you mention the ai umbrella just now! Sayako and Kirino have great chemistry, especially with all the :3

I guess I don’t pay as much attention to obvious things like the auras in this show. They really do represent the characters well, huh. The only one I pay attention to is Miya’s “black” form, which is thrown at us all the time. ;P

  5. I normally skip the OP but just happened to watch it again for Ep 10 and thus reminded of the umbrella scene. When it first aired and Saya hadn’t been probably introduced yet, I still did go: ‘Woah! Who’s that babe!?’

  6. Apologies for the misleading convo earlier on regarding Reimi. :p

Yes, she is quite a bag of tricks to look out for. If anything, she’s another source of comic relief (well, for me). Psychotic stalkers are always win in comedies, even better if they’re of the same gender hahaha.

As for Clannad, yeah, I can say that yuri is non-existent. I’ve only gone down the Nagisa path so I’m not entirely sure about every possible scenario, and seeing that KyoAni might end the series with the default girl… Oh well. But it’s still awesome :3.

PS. Bug-eating plants 4TW LOL. Nice change from the usual roses (or lilies).

Ah~ It’s good to be back in civilization again with a computer…
