Da Capo II 10 – Possibly my last DCII post

It's sad that this could potentially be my last entry on DCII even though it packs the most plot movement. Why? Isn't plot movement good after so many meandering episodes? Well, because this ep finally confirms the postulates on the avenue by which the sakura tree premise would be incorporated into the story - Minatsu's tale.

I'm with Hinano on this - The robot hating/prejudice angle is retarded. And I've looong realised that my enjoyment of any series is inversely proportional to the number of idiots in the story. (A major reason why I didn't finish School Days.) Yoshiyuki is also not helping by turning into an inconsistent and unlikeable harem lead. We are supposed to believe that he is a caring/kind person who's deeply concerned about his ostracised robot friend and collapsed sister when he irresponsibly ditches his girlfriend without saying a word? This is exacerbated by the rising charms of the DCII girls. Koko shows some personality by snubbing Yoshi. Yume exhibits the strength of her loyalty and Otome reveals her sweet past with Yoshi. Their added allure only strengthen Yoshiyuki's status as unworthy lead which is THE definitive deathblow to many harem series.

Although I have to say I'm curious with Otome's expanded role from this ep on. Surely her presence is required for a reasonable resolution of the Sakura tree premise but are they also softening the ground for the upcoming movie? I certainly hope they are not going for an abrupt Otome end since the inertia of the series seems to be a Koko-centric end. But whether it ends with the terrible breakup or a Koko X Yoshi's happily-ever-after really depends if the movie is a sequel to the TV series.

Well, at least the Nanaka ep made catching this series worthwhile.

  1. Nothing is making this series worth while lol 8D
I’m just watching it to see how the hell they’re gonna fuck up the ending

  2. If you’re no longer blogging this series, does that mean that I am no longer bound by my promise to watch it? I already gave Da Capo II my pronouncement of doom last episode. Unlike Shana II, which actually seems to be raising its game to acceptable levels, there aren’t enough episodes left for Da Capo II to redeem itself. And I was bashing Yuji and Shana for being inconsistent…

    *begins downloading Shana II ep.8*

  3. Yeah Da Capo II suffers major pacing problems, not helped by the fact that it’s only 13 ep.

I think i’ll stop following this series. Perhaps I’ll pick it up once the series finishes and before the movie is released. Perhaps it’ll feel more tolerable if I watch it all in one go.

I’m sure the game players are enjoying the eps but I just can’t watch this anymore. Never had a thing for robot girls (for obvious reasons) and several ep focused on Minatsu, doesn’t really help..

  4. I was kind of hoping they wouldn’t even bring up the sakura tree, since if they didn’t maybe there would be hope for a second season with the sakura tree/Otome/Yume/Sakura storylines. I don’t think I’ve been this disappointed since Yoake Mae Ruri Iro no Kill Me Now With a Cabbage. I don’t mind that they diverted from the game, like Kimikiss has done, since I haven’t played the game–but unlike Kimikiss DC II just isn’t making me look forward to the next week’s episode with a solid story. It’s a damn good thing FEEL didn’t do the first season of original Da Capo, or Junichi would have been a schmuck, he would have ended up with Moe, and Nemu and Sakura would have been side characters with hardly any screentime.

I guess there’s always hope for the movie, if they go with Otome’s or Yume’s route I still think it could make for an amazingly good, dramatic story…

  5. i think they are saving all the good stuff for the movie.

either a slapfest between koko and nanaka or a sisterfest between yume and otome.

  6. errrrr…. they should have just stopped at the end of the first episode (which was a wonderful tightly written little bit of angst and release).

At this point I’m enjoying Kimikiss and its novel approach (more like Honey & Clover with all the social node groupings) a lot more …

I’m still liking Clannad as well with its multiplicity of activity as well.

  7. If you are interested, here are the odds

    1. Otome : 34% ‘One mind One body’. Enough said
    2. Minatsu: 25% Center of the plot
    3. Koko: 17% Side story
    4. Yume: 14% Time is running out
    5. Nice Boat: 5% Some says Yoshi deserves this
    6. Nobody: 3% Other says this
    7. The field : 2% If movie is to be conclusion, why not? Many still wants Nanaka, Anzu, Akane, or even Sakura.

  8. Hinano: Heh not even the Nanaka ‘back-attack’ in ep 7? I was utterly blown away and screaming my lungs out on how much a dork Yoshi is, not to reciprocate. XD

sixten: Heh, life is too short to watch crappy anime. :) Pls, feel free to flee to better series :) There is much wisdom in your pronouncement in my previous post. The DCII movie, it’s our last hope… XD

holyman282: I think I’ll probably do that too. Marathoning will mitigate pacing problems although DCII’s problems extend beyond that. Why couldn’t they have taken Anzu’s or Nanaka’s route even if the top tiered tales for Yume/Otome were reserved for the movie? :P

suguru: For you to compare this with Cabbage Lurve, it must be severe! XD I would love Zexcs to do a DCSS alternative and reprise Kotori’s love for Junichi again. Classic matchup – Imouto vs idol. Yes, our hope rests on the movie now.

Xellos-_^: Probably Yume vs Otome since they need to unveil the sakura tree tale too. Wouldn’t mind some Anzu sidestory either :)

vexx: I need to catch up on Clannad and kimikiss too. These series are stalled at 3 and 2 respectively. There’s also ef… Gah! So many series so little time! XD

maglor: I suspect they are just softening the ground for the movie. It’s too late to turn it into a Otome ending although that is one powerful promise under the sakura tree and we know the binding force of such promises in anime/DC franchise. Personally, I’m secretly holding out for that 3% XD

  9. Stripy, go watch some Ef- Tales. Best all around Romance of 2008.
