Minorin Contacted
I can't help but feel that there's considerable irony in how Minori Chihara's singing career was given a considerable boost by the popularity of her role as Yuki Nagato in The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. After all, Yuki was a 'silent character' and not an inconsiderable number of fans, whom I disagree with, felt that Minorin's rendition of the chara songs were, well, not very Yuki.
I decided to download the Nipponsei rips after reading the reviews of this album by houkoholic and beerman [there was another very detailed, track-by-track review but I can't, for the life of me, find it again, please leave a comment if you know the URL to it] and I liked it so much that I placed an order for it, via Amazon.co.jp, together with the Kagamin chara song CD.
Often, I've not been particularly impressed by the singing of anime seiyuu; sometimes, it's largely due to the positive afterglow of an anime series that makes the songs enjoyable. But when it's not anisong, the loss of the connection dampened my enthusiasm. Also even with lots of technological help, seiyuu studio albums still don't usually hold a candle against mainstream jpop acts.
But Minorin certainly holds her own. Impressions of her live performances, e.g. Haruhi Gekisou reviews by moyism and jaalin as well as hashihime on her Budokan performance. And thus, not surprisingly, Contact was more than a decent pop album.
I liked all the tracks but the opening and eponymous track made the biggest impact on me; it had a really energetic and epic feel. Others which I replayed a lot or which enticed me to look up, from my studying, at the winamp tracklisting were also energetic tracks like Shijin no Tabi, Jyunpaku Sanctuary, too late? not late..., and mezzo forte.
Minorin, good job!

Nice purchase! Also got my copy a few weeks back and if anything else, the case is REALLY shiny… like I can go blind if enough light reflected off of it type of shiny.
On the CD tracks, yea overall they were good and I’m pretty much in agreement with what others have said. A good solid start for Minorin that I can only hope get better as time goes on
BTW, as an extra I was lucky enough to get the promo poster for the CD from CDJapan. It’s basically the CD cover enlarged but still a nice bonus nonetheless.

Ooo I er…”obtained” this album today due to your recommendation, and it is actually really awesome! I usually don’t like seiyu albums, but this became an exception along with Yui Makino’s work ^.

moyism, actually I’m more in envy of that sweet Ryoko poster next to Minorin’s! I assume that was a special promo for her chara single – CDjapan too?
Totali, huzzah, another fellow convert! Any impulse to join the Church of Moyism and ‘obtain’ it in its CD glory? :3
