The high art of loli fire & movement

Saw the above work at the London Frieze Art Fair today (Lehmann Maupin booth) by the artist "Mr." who:
has designed a special installation and performance for this art fair featuring his large-eyed characters in provocative poses interspersed with popsicles and cartoon animals. New paintings in varying sizes will also be on view as part of his continued investigation into the Otaku subculture of Japan.

Another blurry sereptitious shot to give an idea of the scale of the painting as well as to highlight the designs on the floor.
It's been said that lighting makes the difference between art and pornography. In this case, having a mysterious moniker and getting a New York gallery to display your stuff will enable said mysteriously monikered artist to fetch an eye-wateringly hefty price. I wonder how much that painting would getto if it were sold in an anime convention instead of Regent's Park, London!

Fan artists should take note of this! Maybe all the artistic animebloggers (like the ones who submitted an ab mascot character) should have gone into “fine art” instead and made millions!

I always figured this kind of art is, in fact, a kind of *performance* – namely, convincing people the weird stuff you put before them is A) valuable B) good C) art to begin with.
Since that tends not be very easy, one can only appreciate the effort and ability opf whoever manages to pull it off – although the artist might disagree with the reasoning… ^.^

I’m a little disappointed that an artist named “Mr.” didn’t have a piece with 12 gothlolis named after months of the year carrying weapons.
