I take back everything I said about heavyhanded references. I think I was feeling extra crabby when I was making that post. I got a real chuckle out of the Da Capo references and, of course, Konata's auto-self-tsukkomi.

I couldn’t stop laughing when ’sakura saku mirai koi yume’ started up…for me that was the funniest reference since Keroro doing the next ep preview a while back. Although now it just makes me wish Kyoani was doing D.C. II…

Am I the only one who thinks that Konata was referring to the actions of Kagamin during the concert when she said that?
Here I am hoping that KyoAni will refer to that in the later eps…

Kagami seems to have aquired no less than two new expressions in this ep. One is the aforementioned tender smile, another the unprecedentedly pronounced smirk she flashes eg. when she joins in on Konata’s and Miyuki’s conversation on class distribution and troublemakers.
This can probably be considered a legitimate case of character developement.
Incidentally, is it just me or does she seem to wear a fair few items of men’s clothes as part of her casual outfits ? The shirt-thingy she has in the blossom-watching episode for example seems to have the closure overlap to the right, which is AFAIK a direction normally only found in menswear (and apparently derived from certain types of Medieval body armour with front closure).

@Watchman: Kagami dresses masculinely on a lot of occasions, most notably outfits with ties. She seems to balance it out pretty well with decidedly feminine blouses (with those puffy shoulders that I don’t see anymore these days). I think she’s just trying to be more formal, but she overdresses to the point of moe at times. I was pretty surprised to see her fairly casual this time around.
I have no idea why KyoAni threw that very tender moment in those first three minutes out there in a show that supposedly put a foot down on exemplifying the slice-of-life genre in having no character development whatsoever. Please note that I absolutely loved it.
Kagami plus tender smile = yuri moment NOW.
Kagami plus big sneer = some animated western comedian.
Konata plus ponytails = extreme cuteness.
