Figure pre-orders ~ Hits & misses
It's June and I'm amazed that my seemingly impossible "a-figure-a-month" rule was adhered to. Frankly, it has been several quiet months for me, figurewise. Not because there are no worthy releases/pre-orders but rather there are few suitable for my collection. In fact I contemplated dropping my "1/8 only" rule to acquire some 1/7 droolicious PVC bishoujos. Unfortunately (or fortunately for my fiscal health), the 1/7 faction lost its appeal as the tanuki's financial panel unanimously crushed the motion. Here's in remembrance of the 3 1/7s misses I wished were 1/8s instead.
1/7 Kannu Uncho of Ikkitousen by Wani Books
Intricate costumes, fitting facials and beautifully crafted weapons make these babes with blades a figure-collector's wet dream. If sculptors continue churning out such fabulous 1/7s, it'd be a matter of time before I upsize. Anyhow, as if to make up for my crippling loss, the figure-gods made available 3 fantabulous 1/8s which I immediately pre-ordered.
Since Ryoko comes with a dagger, she's technically a "babe with blade" too. Maybe there's one hiding in Estel's book. Heck, maybe Alicia is holding a machete behind her back. It's always the sweet, gentle ones.. Incidentally, all 3 1/8s are slated for Sep release. Now we need a GSC 1/8 Alice Carrol.

Is it sad that I preordered every figure you posted about except Estel? Or is it that I lack the great mental fortitude you seem to have Stripey?
If it’s the later, please advise on how to become like you man. My wallet has been crying a lot recently, you know? ^^;;

Out of all those I have Ryoko, Kureha and Iris.
Kureha would be the first archer in my army. We need more archers or maybe a Archer-ko.
That thing with Alicia just scares me >_

You mean Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuustu by Max Factory. Well I have the Alicia on order so far but I may add more later. Just that I have other things to worry about in relation to my finances. And I am surprised you kept to one figure a month. Mine is like 2-3 figures a month but I’ll have to cut down soon, the cabinet is getting full soon.

Would you consider getting an Eyescream Elwing? Comes with doll’s eyes – very pretty. And that alien blob is a cat in ARIA. I wished they had given Alicia a paddle or machete instead of the cat XD
Adun: Doh! Thanks for the correction! I have a problem with storage which is another reason for staying my hand on 1/7s. Been looking out for suitable display cabinets for the longest time XD

I have Kureha, Alicia, and Ryoko pre-ordered as well. Movic just revealed their StrikerS Fate figure. It’s got an ugly face, but I’m going to buy it anyways. I just wouldn’t be a fanboy if I didn’t!
That’s out in September as well, so I might be dropping one of the 3 I mentioned. I have a 3 figures a month pre-order limit, so I’m not sure which one I’ll be dropping just yet.
I’m still waiting for Max Factory to make that Shana figure they’ll be working on available for pre-order. Also that Happinet Yurie figure is another I want to get for October.

You should buy the current Alice Carrol now while she’s still available…for future displaying when you find a good case! It’s a great sculpt, and still looks good even among my more militant collection of bishoujos (compared to yours). Just an evil suggestion whispering in your ear! ^_^

I just pulled a massive right turn and pre-ordered Yoko from Gurren-Lagann … a very different figure from most of my collection.
I suppose she’ll join Disgaea’s Etona in my small “wtf?” collection.

Wow, that Estel and Asakura figurines are awesome, I would kill to get those since I’m broke atm
Speaking of which, I just got this Limited Edition Suigintou figurine delivered to me today. Yes, the dolljoints are movable
and it features two faces; the one I use and one with her eyes closed.

I notice on your pre-order you don’t have the FSN Rin-Maid. You don’t want to match the Rin Maid with your Saber Maid? I am really hoping GSC does the FSN female cast in Maid uniform. We need more Rider and Caster figures.

And woot for your 3 1 preorders! Kureha/Ryouko/Alicia are great buys. As for movic Fate… hmm I just thought the pose could have been more dynamic

Considering Rin is suppose to be catty. I would say if Rin looks catty then GSC did a good job capturing the essence of Rin’s character. And yes we need Meido Illya, Sakura, Caster and Rider. Maybe even Meido Caren.

Ah a true Kanon fan!
I’m very keen with the Makoto sculpt myself. It looks like the canonical pose she assumed in the Kanon OP. Was initially tempted by Ayu but my wallet can’t take it no more haha!

But I am quite tired of HLJ being so slow to update their shopping list and I was wondering if you have tried any other hobby sites and whether if u could reccommend some reliable ones ie. secure billing and quality assurance. I heard of hobby search(www.1999.co.jp/eng) but i am not sure how good is it.

cyw1988: heh, I don’t acquire anything online so can’t quite help you there.
Though I have to say hobbysearch is a fav of mine when it comes to previewing figures. They have 2 major strengths – First, you can check out a particular sculptor’s past works to see his style/weakness and secondly, they take pictures of the figures themselves, albeit slightly amaturish but authentic representations of the figures.
