Ten anime confrontations ~ The catfight edition

For someone who dislike love confrontations in RL, I sure love my catfights in anime. Not the mindless scream-fest between haremettes (example, Ayumi and Maika in Magikano) but raw/poignant confrontations between worthy opponents in love. Well executed face-off are series gems good for both character/plot development since they usually reveal the motivation/intensity of the protagonists' affections and the unique circumstances breeding that rivalry. And somehow the intensity of these encounters are amplified when sister/cousin characters are involved. I wonder why.

Anyhow, here's a personal ranking of 10 anime confrontations. Note that this list only includes 2 girls fighting over the lead. I'm sure a dogfight edition could be found elsewhere.

10 - Eri vs Yakumo (School Rumble 2 06)

A prophetic foreshadowing of Eri's loss to Yakumo in the contest of Harima's heart. I love how the play was superimposed on the Eri/Yakumo rivalry, complete with an embedded dialogue. It's a real pity Eri walked since I was looking forward to an Eri/Harima kiss.

09 - Shana vs Kazumi (Shakugan no Shana 12)

Trash-talking Shana FTW! I was soooo delighted that Kazumi exhibited some spunk and a good deal of fortitude in this largely fruitless argument (no thanks to our lolicious love idiot evading issues). Was made a staunch Kazumi supporter hereafter.

08 - Arika vs Nina (Mai Otome 17)

Frankly I only felt for the scene because of Kajiura sensei's excellent score. Nonetheless, a very solid performance by Nina's seiyuu.

07 - Kirie vs Elise (Canvas 2 09)

I like brats in confrontations. They bring the destabilizing element of unreason to the fight and makes the face-off a lot more intriguing. That said, I wouldn't say Elise's hostility towards Kirie was unreasonable. In fact, she was just being innocently true to herself as kids usually are. It's a real pity this was the furthest they took for a Kirie/Elise sparring match since Elise 'grew up' so fast in the remaining eps to learn adult hypocrisy/self-delusion, which effectively eliminated the chance of open conflict.

06 - Sumireko vs Kaoruko (Futakoi 12)

The highest point in Futakoi and I suggest you skip the finale after this ep. The Sumireko/Kaoruko encounter was a twin card well played. Their struggle to be different when so many things are identical including the one they love is a touching one. My only lament was the rushed resolution given the aged/deep fissures between the sisters.

And we take a break for some kiminozo love

05 - Kirino vs Riko (Gift~Eternal Rainbow 09)

Ah... the confrontation that inspired this post. I have to eat my words about Gift. While ep 7 (Chisa's arc) was abysmally executed, the episode-after had a nice build-up culminating to a DC X SHUFFLE-esque confrontation in ep 9. Sure it doesn't have intensity of DC 20 or the ferocity of SHUFFLE 19 but it has a nice, moderate blend of both canonic confrontations. Kirino's parting threat still resonate in my mind and I look forward to Riko coughing out piano keys next ep.

04 - Arisu vs Kiraha (Kagihime Monogatari 10)

The BEST siscon challenge mounted in anime. Kagihime is worth watching just for this scene.

03 - Mai vs Shiho (Mai HiME 24)

Murderous intent just ups the confrontational stakes. One of the most poignant anime scenes for me in recent years and I assure you Shiho has very little to do with it. I simply loved how Mai was forced an indirect kokuhaku in that impossible situation. I said it before but I'll say it again. SUNRISE at its best.

02 - Nemu vs Sakura (Da Capo 20)

There are 2 scenes I keep rewatching from DC and this rooftop catfight is one of them. Thoroughly affecting. My heart goes out to Sakura as she is cheated of a promise and shamed before her rival. Nemu's cattiness this scene also strengthened my love for her.

01 - Asa vs Kaede (SHUFFLE! 19)

Psycho-moe FTW! Really SHUFFLE! would have really been a mediocre series if not for psycho-Kaede. Kaede's arc turned the series around while pivoted on this scene. If only she had broken out the boxcutter on Asa.

  1. OKAY! OKAY!

    I GIVE!

    Going to delete my Crescent Love folder( which is getting moldy from being untouched) and replace it with Gift~ instead.

    Honestly, if I find the psycho-moe lacking, I’m going to make my despair and disappointment known on ALL the blogs that have raved about the basketcases in Gift~. I am expecting psycho-moe here! Not angst! Angst is not moe in my dictionary!

    Narf.

  2. If they ever convert School Days into a series, you’ll have a new number 1

  3. Tashikani, angst != moe. But both together = TEH WIN.

  4. And a School Days anime series is scheduled for 2007. Official.

  5. About the Arisu vs. Kiraha battle in episode 10…

    One of the more amusing things about this battle was that they were fighting over who gets to DUMP Aruto, not over who would end up with him.

    Alas, Kiraha tried very hard in episodes 8 and 10, but Arisu got the better of her in 10 and 12.

    As for SHUFFLE! – bleh. The battle should’ve been Sia vs. Nerine, and I feel cheated by the outcome. Red vs. blue, not green vs. orange! Are the writers color blind?

    P.S. To make up for Kaede’s failure, Rin does have a boxcutter moment of his own…

  6. I wonder why there are more people desiring some red-liquids in School Days compared to the possibility of real three-some between the male lead and two female leads. Still, if I were to go with dramatic effects only, there won’t be much cat fight and the male lead will finally do something decent in the end.

    If we want cat fight, where is the Muteki Kanban Musume, which is centered around Miki vs. Megumi? I still think they should have shown more of drunken Miki.

  7. Why no “Rumbling Hearts”?

  8. Ah the anime catfight despite all the fanfare, near bloodshed, and boxcutters its always for a most idiot cause namely the heart of some door mat. The greatest tragedy is not that they must fight, but that it is all for nothing. I gues th enotion of women actually fighting for male attention will ensure that this continues, fortunately for the Japanese there is no legal right to bear arms.

    The fights in Kanban Musume were the best especially with Yakuza Megumi and Drunk Miki.

  9. Is Gift good? I have not watched it yet, and I’m looking for new series to follow since my backlog’s Zero.

  10. Tsubaki: If you like some Da Capo-esque dorama with half the emotion and a better lead, then watch Gift. But ignore the whole Chisa arc and focus on Haruhiko and Riko.

  11. Stripey,

    You miss Ep7 of Tsukihime. A day in the amusment park with Imuto/Wife, girlfirend, mistress and one night stand.

    The one thing i don’t like about Gift is the character desig for male lead. He looks old.

  12. I think asa vs. kaede is the catfight to end all catfights. Good choice sir.

  13. Asa versus Kaede wasn’t really a confrontaion, but more of an ambush.
    Seriously, Asa did not have the time to say something or fight back. Kaede took her by surprise and then, she fainted…
    I prefer Muteki Kanban Musume, now that’s some catfight!

  14. Skane: It’s not kaede full-blown as of ep 10 but Kirino did something akin to stirring an empty pot. Don’t think you’d be disappointed :)

    PassinGass/Sherman, the Ranmi: Been hearing a lot about Schoo; days over a Darkmirage’s. Looking forward to it! :)

    dsong: I was under the impression in Kagi 10, Arisu was coercing Aruto to make a choice. Her or sister. :P And LOL! yeah, it’s not wrong to say Rin went boxcutter on Asa. XD

    wontaek: I have only seen 6(?) eps of Kanban… it evolved from/into love rivalry ? :P

    Kabitzin: Hehe the only real confrontation I remember between Mitsuki and Haruka was ep 13 in the hospital. They weren’t exactly fighting for Takayuki I think. :)

    Crusader: I really need to finish Kanban…. Much as I’m a ramen-lover myself, I’d patronise sweet Megumi-chan’s breadhouse than eat the ramen of a violent tyrant. And my lovely Megumi turns yakuza? Noooooooo…..

    Tsubaki: As Sherman has nicely pointed out, if you don’t mind the distracting sideshows in the series, the main plot is rather driven indeed. The animation’s inconsistent though. Huge eyes…. XD

    Xellos-_^: I love that Tsukihime ep…. such elegant/intelligent catfighting. Pity Hisui/Kohaku didn’t join the fray.

    buh: Thanks for the affirmation! :) Let’s see if Kirino (Gift) can outdo Kaede :P

    eurys: haha, I don’t deny that. But I thought Asa extricated herself well by feinting. XD

  15. If only they had really carried the ball with “psycho-Kaede” defending her turf against Asa (and perhaps yanking Rin up a bit as well) … but no, they punctured that glorious balloon and all the possibilities for some real dynamic story faded into the dreaded “harem reset”…. not even a decent polygamous ending.

  16. Stripey, Not anime but you might want to check out the melty Blood Manga. Got some great cat fights scene and Kohaku is absolutely insane.

  17. I just about agree with every part of this list.

    However, the resolutions to these conflicts are just as important to me as the dramatic conflict itself. Some shows do it well (Da Capo), some do it badly (Shuffle!), and some just make you go WTF (Canvas 2). I wonder where in this range Gift will end up falling?

  18. vexx: hehe, I believe Kaede still have a lot of fight in her even with SHUFFLE!’s less than stellar end. I was completely bowled over by her ‘milk offer’… Such thoughtful gentleness always gets to me (boxcutter history or not XD). But my money’s on Primula though. She’ll sit this out and watch the other girls wane with strife/age and suddenly burst onto Rin’s crosshairs at the pinnacle of her glorious 17 yr old beauty. Join the PPP while we still have openings! :)

    Xellos^_-: Oooooh meido catfights, I hope Hisui’s involved. :) Thanks for the rec. Will check them out soon.

    Kefit: Thanks for the excellent point. In fact, not only the resolution but the preceding events leading to the confrontation is also of utmost importance for a credible/engaging face-off. Myself, I thought the Asa/Kaede resolution was rather well done. As for canvas2, there was no real explanation of the resolution but enough elements for the viewer to formulate its basis. The problem was everyone interpreted it rather differently. :)

  19. Offtopic:

    KGNE vol1 is release on 19th of Dec.

    Please go and buy it. Even if you personally don’t like KGNE. Buy it to at least support the genre.

    Stripey, Primula is only 1 year younger then Rin and the rest. She is a part of the mayumi/louise/Mashiro briagde.

  20. ah..the heart symbol using that “bracket on the right side of M button” + “3″ didnt appear.

  21. Well, I have watched the first episode of Gift~ thus far and barring a miracle, Kirino has already been branded the ‘Loser’ from the OP and the ED alone. It does not help that Riko is also the first girl on the screen, the promised one, AND a childhood friend.

    Never has the OP and ED been so one-sided in a Harem anime.

    Hmm… I wonder what are the chances of Kirino getting into a deathmatch with Riko before a Gift is required to revive the slained? The male lead( give me a few more episodes to remember his name by heart) hinted in Ep01 that the Gift can be used to save someone’s life( in his case, from mother to son. Did his mother sacrifice her life to save his? Hmm… that would parallel some of the plotlines in some other harem animes that I have watched).

    Chisa bores me. The swordswoman has promise, but I am not holding my breath. Riko seems kind of bland in a ‘perfect’ sort of way. So yeah, Kirino is the interesting one for me( it helps that there are plenty of screenshots of her, with vacant eyes, circulating around ^^;).

    Cheers.

  22. Skane: You just wait. It gets good (worse? lol) from here. Rinka’s ep is kinda funny. I’m still hoping for a blood-crazed Kirino to turn this fluff into what SHUFFLE! should have been.

    TedFox: There’s no Iroha vs Momoko catfight… yet.

  23. Skane: You know, Gift would be a lot more interesting if it wasn’t so heavily Riko biased in the OP, ED, and general series construction. Kirino seems to be just as important to the plot, but the first half of the series spends a lot of time ignoring her existence unless she can be used in some way to force drama between Haruhiko and Riko.

  24. I’d say that the best episodes in the first half of the series are 3, 6, and 2. Riko’s introduction in episodes 2 and 3 get the series jump-started, and the main story doesn’t really progress until episode 6.

    If nothing else this series comes across as a good emulation of D.C. ~ Da Capo (I wouldn’t go as far as to call it a copycat). It has the structure down pat: a lackluster opening episode, a few decent episodes mixed in with less-than stellar ones, and a strong finishing kick.

    As for Kirino – we were given some clues about her character as early as Episode 3, and she interferes with Haruhiko and Riko in episodes 3, 4, 6, and 7 – mostly behind the scenes. Her “disappearance” is actually a setup for the drama in episode 9.

  25. Random Thoughts on Gift~ Ep02

    ..) Some pretty heavy hinting on Kirino’s status in the triangle in this episode. During the toasting scene, Kirino was all but invisible to the camera( as in, not seen on-scene) until Riko went flushy-faced, then they panned the camera to Kirino’s expressionless face as she stared at Haruhiko(sp?).

    Oooo… delicious, but another sign that Kirino is the destined loser unless some dramatic happens.

    ..) There seems to be a connection between Riko and the eternal rainbow. Hmm… did she use her Gift already? She seems to be having feelings of guilt everytime the rainbow is pointed out to her. What did she do? Murder Haruhiko’s mother or something?

    ..) Kirino: “I’ll step aside for Riko’s sake.”

    Yeah, Kirino. You tell yourself that. Kaede said the same thing too, and we all know where that led to. :P Don’t disappoint me, Gift~! I am currently intrigued enough by the premise to ignore the other, largely ignorable, three girls( Chisa, Rinka and Yukarin).

    ..) You know what Haruhiko’s dad should do? Hook up with Kirino’s mother. Then Haruhiko will have two sisters! Both non-Blood related. :P Go for it, Kirino! Encourage your mom to snag daddy-kins!

    Cheers.

  26. Random Thoughts on Gift~ Ep03

    ..) “It’s because Riko-chan is kind.”
    “Then that means you’re not?”
    “Maybe so…”

    I heart Kirino now.

    ..) During the near-kiss scene, I pondered whether Kirino was spying on them and called them after seeing them so close. “Oh no, you don’t!”

    ..) Darkened skies, heavy rain, angsty piano playing, broken promises, etc… Hmm… What promise was broken? What promise did Riko make with Kirino?

    ..) Piano wire is a common strangulation tool.

    ..) Riko is actually an alien.

    Cheers.

  27. Tedfox: Hehe Iroha vs momoko just ain’t in the same league. :)

    Skane: I salute you! Such a astute watcher you are! Much of these details just flew by me actually. I don’t want to spoil anything for you but many of your observations are rather on-track. Can’t wait for you to hit ep 9 :)

  28. Thanks, Stripey. ^^; It’s a habit of mine to ‘over-analyse’ anything I watch. Old Literature habits die hard. That said, I’m going to take a break now. Ep04 was a beach episode, and the next one seems to be a standalone episode for Rinka, so now is a good time as any to pause for a while. Going off to KL over the weekend to attend a funeral. :P
    ~~~~ ~~~~
    Random Thoughts on Ep04
    ..) Ah… the requisite beach episode… Thankfully, there was still plot development. Much unnecessary fanservice, but whatever sells the DVDs right? Then again, I can’t complain too much when they give us scenes like this one. I just wish they were better drawn. ;_;
    ..) Failure to hit the watermelon despite the guidance of Haruhiko. It may just be me talking, but one could easily take this as a thinly veiled metaphor on the state of Kirino’s relationship with Haruhiko. Girl just can’t take a break from all the crap that the show is dumping on her.
    ..) I dunno about the rest of you people, but I laughed when Riko went boohoohoo to the beach. I don’t like girls who lie to themselves and to the guys that like them. Take that, Riko! You badly deserved it for jerking around.
    ..) Chisa… is starting to become very annoying. Can we have her dead by the end of the series? Pretty please?
    ..) My interest in Yukarin’s character died in this episode. We’ll see if they can spark it back to life in the future episodes.
    ..) I remain ambiguous over Rinka.
    ..) The power of science can make watermelons fly? Oh, and you know, they were very, very, VERY cheap over the animation of the watermelons disappearing and appearing into and out of the sand. More like the mysterious blinking watermelons.
    ..) I have largely refrained from commenting on the animation’s shortcomings because quite frankly, after watching shows like Suzuka, Higurashi, and… *sobs* Crescent Love… my tolerance level has attained a whole new level of patience and understanding.
    At least Gift~ has the decency to maintain some measure of consistency in their animation style. So props to the production team.
    Besides, the plot is compelling enough to make me overlook such technical details.
    ..) Was anybody else hoping that Kirino would use the LED-Chopstick and stab Riko with it?
    Cheers.
  29. Skane:
    - Was Kirino THAT big? I thought that size was Riko’s.
    - Let’s blame the nervous state of everyone there. Not only Kirino, Haruhiko is trying to overcome his recent rejection and Riko is obviously regretting her decision.
    - Oi, don’t be bad with Riko. She’s my favorite. And even after she pretty much f*d up THE chance (damn you Riko, you had THE chance to bed your onii-chan at last, idiot), she’s still lovable.
    - Too bad, so sad. You’ll have to chug at least 3 more eps of annoying Chisa (but Rinka’s sexual harasser is even more annoying, don’t you think?)
    - She won’t. Don’t get your hopes too high. Yukarin’s need ended when she showed her tremendous boobs. That was all.
    - I like Rinka.
    - This Suginami replacement is not that cool. Too bad.
    - Gift’s animation is BAD. Period. I know.
    - I wasn’t.
    I sincerely don’t know why I still watch this. Is it because of the girls? Or something in the plot attracts me? I can’t believe I’m anxiously waiting each chapter. Same with Happiness!.
    P.D.: And, of course, the great secret has been at last revealed: Riko is an alien.
  30. school days anime is just the game minus the H bot sure about the violent endings though… higurashi kept them maybe school days would do the same… *evil laugh* and also this catfight genre is getting too predictable… the female lead(ie the one shown in the op with the male lead) always win… the only shows that these were not apparent were kiminozo, school rumble, Shuffle!
  31. I hope to see the violent endings. Screw the sex.
  32. arghhhh…hmm. Everyone seems to say that gift’s kirino is worth the watch. Should i torture myself with 8 episodes of mediocre episodes before hitting the right gear at all. Tempting just to see more psycho-moe~
    Hmmm, as said, I agreed with your rankings for the most part, especially the asa x kaede one. ASA WINS THOUGH @_@;;;
    How about shion and mion?…That sounds like a really bloody catfight (pun intended)
  33. impz: Shion vs Mion? Nice choice. THE catfight.
    P.D.: zOMfG Gift 10 is t3h win! Evil Kirino at last conquers the world and starts her dark reign over the Earth lol
  34. Episode 1 is actually one of the weaker episodes of Gift. The plot picks up quite fast; episodes 2 and 3 get into the meat of the story.
    But agreed; the really good stuff doesn’t happen until 9.
  35. Sherman, the Ramni: Ahhh Gift 10. I like how Kirino got around the Gift requirement of the recipient having to reciprocate the Gift intent. But I suspect it’ll be a predictable Hand Maid May-esque end :)
    cyw1988: Indeed, I realised I’d enjoy the show more if the designated girl wasn’t so obvious. Probably that’s why kiminozo/shuffle rank so highly in my book.
    impz: I think the mediocre eps are the chisa parts. But on hindsight, chisa’s arc was necessary for the main plot :) Do check out the first 3 eps. You’ll get a good feel of whether the series’s for you :) Shion and Mion are not on the list cos they were fighting for different boys :P
    dsong: I was surprised at the pace of the series myself. Ep 10 continues to be good. I just hope it doesn’t have a resolution like ep 07. :)
  36. Random Thoughts on Ep05
    ..) This episode was a complete RIOT! I could barely control myself when Rinka tried to use her ’shoujo’ lines on Haruhiko. Definitely a cute moment.
    ..) Fun to watch Haruhiko play ‘minesweeper’ with Riko in the opening scenes.
    ..) Jealous Riko is funny, but it makes me dislike her that much more as well. Make up your mind, damn woman!
    ..) Lack of Kirino makes me a sad camper.
    ..) Maki using panties to wipe his spectacles was golden.
    ..) Nami shows that when it comes to anime, the Mamiya way is a surefire way of snagging your victim. Remember folks! When it comes to love, stalk to your heart’s content. Your target’s defences will eventually break down. ;)
    ..) I heart Rinka now, but Kirino is still number one.
    ..) The preview for Ep06 looked ominous with Kirino powering a red Gift( the other Gifts have been yellow so far). I wonder what is she doing?
    Cheers.
  37. Random Thoughts on Ep06
    ..) This episode made me giddy from psycho-moe servings. ^^;
    ..) Kirino has been spying on them( she knew about the confession)! Eeee! Have I found a successor for Tamao?
    ..) “I see… So they made up…”
    *presses piano key of DOOM*
    Again, piano wire is a common strangulation tool; but coughing out piano keys( as noted by Stripey) is fine by me too.
    ..) “If you keep rubbing me there, I might just get excited.”
    Best line of the episode.
    ..) Kirino’s BGM consists of piano pieces, while Riko’s BGM consists of guitar ones. Also… a lot of Kirino’s BGM is of the depressing type. You know, the ones that scream, “f***ing tragic heroine loser”. When they did the montage of Kirino playing the piano against the backdrop of Haruhiko and Riko out having fun, it reminded me of Shuffle, with Kaede cleaning the house while Rin was having the time of his life with Asa.
    ..) I screwed up. I forgot that Chisa’s fake gifts were red in colour.
    ..) Kirino is watching YOU…
    Animated .GIF
    ..) I now wish more people were blogging about Gift~. ^^;
    Cheers.
  38. Last one for tonight, because I’m sleepy and can barely process any coherent thoughts.
    ~~~~ ~~~~

    Random Thoughts on Ep07

    ..) Eeee! More psycho-moe from Kirino! Not full-blown vacant eyes yet, but we’re getting there. ^^;

    ..) Chisa’s story resolution seems rather fast, but whatever. I’ll just take the lesson from her arc and forget she ever existed. Chisa had a vacant eyes moment, but it was executed poorly. No build-up, overly abrupt scene transitions, etc… If the producers were hoping that I would sympathise with Chisa in this episode, they kinda failed.

    ..) Kirino mentioned the promise that was made between her and Riko. Hmm… judging from the context, the promise dealt with the issue of Gift-using. They promised not to use the Gift on each other? On Haruhiko? Need more clues. Regardless, Kirino did not use a real Gift, so she should really calm down and stop saying that she broke the promise.

    ..) Kirino had plenty of psycho-moe in this episode, and I heart her all the more for it. The zooming-out view of her as Haruhiko and Riko ran happily back home. The ‘I’m a f***ing tragic heroine loser’ piano BGM pieces. The looks of jealousy. Her not so subtle confession to Haruhiko under a tree, as leaves blow past her desperate face( in front of Riko too, no less!).

    ..) I found it interesting that Riko made it a point to let down the blinds before talking to Haruhiko in his room. Awareness that Kirino is constantly spying into Haruhiko’s room? ^^;

    ..) Yukarin partially redeemed herself in this episode. I can now say that she serves more purposes than to bounce her boobs around the place. If they keep up her character development and avoid using her as a fanservice tool, I will accept her as a good secondary character.

    ..) It was mentioned several times that the Gift can be used to restore life, and it was heavily implied that Haruhiko’s mother used it to save his. I would like to see Kirino bumping off Riko, but her friendship with Riko seems so impeding. Unless Riko does something that breaks Kirino totally like, oh I don’t know, sleeping with Haruhiko maybe, I can’t really see Kirino killing her anytime soon. :(

    Even better, Kirino misuses her Gift and it ends up endangering her life. Haruhiko ends up using his Gift to save Kirino! Oooo! Would they dare to do that?

    ..) Rinka disappeared.

    Cheers.

  39. Ack, I’d be worried if I knew you in RL. You’d probably be able to sense if I’m ovulating except I can’t XD Very sharp Skane! Really impressed. :) It’s great you getting so much out of these series. 2 more eps to the fateful 9 and then we pray to Haruhi that Gift does not finish as ep 7 did :)

  40. Mmmm yeah. Nice analysis, but predictions fail. Just by a little margin. You’re not really far from truth, Skane.

  41. Random Thoughts on Gift~ Ep08

    ..) Ah… so I was right in Ep02. There was a connection between Riko and the rainbow. Odd though… I was under the impression that the rainbow has been in the town for far longer, especially since Haruhiko mentioned that his mother liked it. Plothole?

    Regardless, it is now clear what Riko meant by a broken promise. She used her Gift already on Haruhiko, despite knowing that Kirino also likes Haruhiko at that time( woah… talk about early love). They probably promised each other not to use their Gifts on Haruhiko, but Riko broke that promise a long, long, LONG time ago. Bitch. Now if only they would tell us what the Gift exactly was( as in, what does it do besides the ‘Eternal Rainbow’).

    Wait… maybe Riko’s Gift adjusted Haruhiko’s memories? So that he thinks the rainbow has always been there? Also, why is the rainbow able to detect distorted Gifts? So many unresolved issues…

    ..) Exactly what happened to Haruhiko’s mother anyway?

    ..) Haruhiko and Riko finally reveal their true feelings. About damned time.

    ..) Much unwarranted fanservice from the Student Council. Alas, I still dislike them. Waste of screentime, people!

    ..) No Chisa makes me happy.

    ..) As Haruhiko sank into the onsen, I pondered whether or not he opened his eyes to catch a glimpse of Riko’s Eden. Yes, I’m wired that way. I’m male after all. ;)

    ..) Lack of fresh psycho-moe from Kirino makes me a little sad. :(

    Cheers.

  42. Psycho moe coming right up! :) Loooking forward to your thoughts on ep 9.

  43. Random Thoughts on Gift~ Ep09

    ..) One word. Excellent.

    ..) The board is set… the pieces are moving.

    ..) I still question why the Rainbow is able to detect distorted Gifts, and what exactly was Haruhiko’s mother’s Gift to him?

    ..) Poor Kirino. She was doing so well. Relegating herself to that of being a friend until Haruhiko blabbed about Riko’s Gift and trampled over her last bastion of sanity. Got to give credit to the girl. She was willing to concede until she perceived ‘betrayal’ from Riko.

    “If Riko can play dirty… so can I!”

    ..) Loved the depressed piano playing.

    “Yadda! Yadda! Yadda!”

    ..) Respect to Haruhiko for not trying to lead Kirino on. Truth is hard, but it is better than lies and being a spineless male harem lead.

    ..) Loved the imagery development of the sky as Kirino went over to Haruhiko’s place.

    ..) Ep10… BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN.

    Cheers.
