Canvas 2 ~niji iro no sketch 01
Having siscon in a harem anime is like eating all the cockles in your char kway tiao (CKT). It's likely to kill you faster in addition to the lard from the CKT. I don't eat cockles. But I never order my char kway tiao w/o them nowadays because their mystical union with the dark sauced kway tiao gives birth to that unique flavour which sends my palate to paradise. (Though it inches my heart to cholesterol-hell.) And having not tasted a good 'cockle-flavoured' anime of recent times, I was pleasantly surprised to hear 'Onii-chan' used in "the right context" 5 min into Canvas 2's pilot.
Granted, Elis is actually Hiroki's cousin and she doesn't go "Nii-san" (a potent indicator of severe sis-con elements) but there is definitely the fragrance of romance wafting from their sibling-seque relationship.
I have to admit I like Elis already. Possibly because she reminds me so much of Nemu; twin ribbons, culinary skills from hell and that slight wilfully/childlike behaviour. My only concern is the potential depth of her character since much has already been revealed of her tragic backstory in ep 1.
Canvas doesn't reek of a sub-standard "girls-mindlessly-throwing-themselves-at-boy" harem series. With a underlying plot of Hiroki's lost mojo for sketching and a lovable Elis anchoring the series, I forsee this to be an excellent addition to my current meagre anime diet.
Ah, I can smell the aroma of cockles already.....

You may want to rethink that statement about Elis being lovable as the series goes on. She is far from it especially towards the end of episode 10. I hate Elis with a passion.

I love Elis even when she’s bitchy. I appreciate her honesty.
That aside, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the show, Stripey. I know I was. It’s definitely NOT standard harem/bishoujo fare.

To hook Stripey, must include a sis-con utterance in the first episode e.g. Pacifica’s “Daisuki dayo!”, Nemu’s “Niiii-san”.
But actually it seems to me that it’s not so much sis-con (male lead who likes sister-type character) but bro-con (sister-type characters who like the male lead) that appeals to you.

Canvas 2 is a lot better then you think. I just hated it when I first starting watching it but I grew to like it. It is not my most favorite series but it is not bad.

Phoenix512: Oh, I’m surprised considering she’s all cutesy at the first few eps. However, I suspect it’ll take a lot for me to dislike her since my threshold for beautiful anime girls are exceptionally high
. (I also must be one of the few who actually like Kaede a lot more after ep 19 of Shuffle.) Granted she’s not the typical nice, Shirakawa Kotori type girl but I agree with Jeff, she has no pretenses. I guess I’ll see in time

Zyl: haha you got me there! The truth is, I’m into bro-con sisters.. wait let me rephrase that… I’m into cute girls and a lot of them HAPPEN to be bro-con sisters… But the term BCS is a bit clumsy so I’ll stick with sis-con

i love Canvas 2. Its actually one of the romance anime where there is a mature story line with hints of comedy here and there. I really like the animation. I like Elis alot. I don’t think she’s bitchy or whatever. The only rude time was when she told kiri to go home when they threw a little “congradulation” party for her. She’s different from Nemu from that fact that she doesn’t cling on to her onii san and say tries to take him. She’s actually kind i think since she really did want kiri and hiroki to be together
