Keroro Gunso 81

First half of this episode is a Midori no Hibi parody combined with a softball game. Koyuki, of course, immediately realizes that something’s up when Natsumi shows up in school with her hand bandaged. In any case, this is a Giroro Gains Natsumi Brownie Points half-ep. The real meat for me was in the second half when Sylvee, a ninja of the inter-galatic Moonlight clan, hunts down Koyuki and threatens Natsumi to get to her. Continue reading ‘Keroro Gunso 81′

Keroro Gunso 66

Natsumi and Koyuki’s heart-pounding first date! It’s been 53 episodes since they first met and this first date is so overdue. At least Koyuki appeared much earlier in the anime compared to the manga. The short summary is: Natsumi and Koyuki go out together for ice cream, shopping, sightseeing and generally have fun - with Koyuki taking every opportunity to be a little romantic with her dear Natsumi-san.

However Giroro is following them out of jealousy while Keroro and Tamama are doing so to research any weaknesses in the Earth’s last line of defence. Giroro’s jealous aura nearly gives them away several times, leading Koyuki to over-react ninja-style. But all’s well that ends well. After Koyuki leaves, Natsumi discovers the Keronians and lays the smackdown. Meanwhile Koyuki is concerned that being with Natsumi dulls her ninja senses but is reassured by Dororo that it may not be a bad thing. The commenter closes by saying that Koyuki is really a ninja rather than a normal girl. Continue reading ‘Keroro Gunso 66′

Natsumi’s birthday plan (2 Dec). Keroro leads the gang to prepare a surprise birthday party for Natsumi who has always avoided one in order not to trouble the rest of her family. Keroro Gunso 34

Momoka and Koyuki battle it out for the onsen ticket. It all starts with yet another of Momoka’s schemes to spend quality time with Fuyuki. Her bodyguards rig a lucky draw so that Fuyuki wins four free tickets (Aki, Natsumi, Fuyuki + ?) to an onsen (hot springs) resort. Continue reading ‘Keroro Gunso 34′

Sgt Frog Vol.7

Haven’t been buying much anime-related stuff for the past month because funds in that vote were diverted towards family gifts. However there was still enough cash for this - just received my copy of Sgt Frog Vol.7 from Amazon.co.uk. Sorry, Forbidden Planet but the discount given by the online retail behemoth is just irresistable. Meta-note: I’ve decided to label this as “Sgt Frog” to differentiate it from my discussion of the Keroro Gunso anime.

Koyuki finally appears and the anime follows the account of love at first scent pretty closely. However there are some important differences. The manga Koyuki is so much more aggressive in her pursuit of Natsumi - even her initial sniff is so much closer to Natsumi’s face and the way it is drawn almost looks like a kiss. One of the things I loved about the manga version was how Giroro immediately realized that Koyuki is a love rival and starts fuming about how Koyuki constantly clings to Natsumi. The latter leads to many lecherous stares from the guys at school and fury from the not unnumerous Natsumi fangirls. And while Giroro’s actions also leads to Koyuki’s secret ninja identity being revealed to Natsumi, it’s a whole different sequence of events and I found the manga version so much more amusing. Completely different context - related to how Koyuki and Dororo moved into the house opposite the Hinata home. The casual way in which Saburo-sempai (Mutsumi 623) and Koyuki’s reaction made me feel that he doesn’t deserve Natsumi at all and that Koyuki or Giroro are so much better suited for the Hinata oneesama.

The last one third of the volume was Koyuki-less though. :( With a whole chapter on that wretched 556 which is probably the only character in the series whom I utterly detest. Then again I also jumped out of my chair, pumped my fist into the air and screamed “YES!!!” when Gai bought the farm in Martian Successor Nadesico. Twat type characters. But for the rest of the Koyuki x Natsumi goodness, it was still well worth it.
