When I was told about this, frankly I was quite surprised that Nagi’s prediction didn’t come true – the power of the KugiRie fanbase is not as awesome in the face of Hinagiku’s awesomeness?

Her boots, I like. I like very much. And, of course, appearing at the moment of distress and dilemma like a (pink) knight in shining armour. Though, in the best of Hayate no Gotoku fashion, the reason why she’s really there is completely LOL which takes the shining knight down a notch.

‘He wants to avoid me that much?’ On the one hand, misunderstanding continues apace because Hina doesn’t have much of a chance to talk to Hayate alone. Or Maria for that matter. On the other hand, perhaps she has yet to understand the depths of his butlerly devotion to Nagi?

Given that they’ve known Hayate for more than a year or so already, shouldn’t they be a little less surprised at his antics? Well, it was nice to see the SD faces though.

Which is why, in general, the truth (vastly over-rated) hurts more than lies.

The answer is within. To do what you think is right. Which tends to be buried rather deeply when you’re a tsundere chara. And Hina’s superficial excavation, taking to the honourable but superficial route, just like how she drew the wrong conclusion about her previous irritation being due to their unfinished fight from the Free Style Marathon, sets the scene for yet more suffering our pink-haired goddess. The path of the tsundere forest is a long and thorny one indeed.

Which would make a Hayate x Hina pairing a little less likely?

Well, this is a harem comedy.

This admixture of the competitive and childish side of Hina is surprisingly endearing. In other charas, it would be soooo annoying but it’s executed here perfectly.

The sharing of the tragic backstory. Again, very well done. Often it’s so embedded in the story that we never see the charas discuss it – because the how of communication is just as important as the what. In that respect, it’s another area that I give high marks to SHUFFLE!

Best flag-triggering sequence EVAR. Not just in this series but in harem comedies in general. Falling in love can be unpredictable, whimsical, even farcial – exemplified in the best way possible by Hatsukoi Limited. But the long process, spanning 3-4 volumes of manga and a dozen anime episodes for Hina x Hayate is really something that deserves a classic status.

Ah, slightly disappointed that this was nerfed slightly. Preferred the more OTT depiction in the manga.
