Girl’s High 6

The cold war between Yuuma and Ayano continues. The latter was dumb enough to believe Momoka’s whispering campaign while the former is pissed that her best friend was dumb enough to believe Momoka’s whispering campaign. Eriko decisively and incisively dispels Momoka’s scheme. Later the evil imouto seems to get her just desserts for playin’ the field but is saved by Eriko and Kouda’s boke/tsukkomi act and the arrival of Oneechan. Who lays the smackdown on her. The two sisters understand each other better and have an indirect reconciliation. Momoka’s true nature comes out, mainly against Kouda and it’s buckets of fun. Continue reading ‘Girl’s High 6′

The Enjoyment, or Not, of OPs and EDs

No surprises that the Haruhi ED, Hare hare yukai, has stormed to the top of the Amazon.co.jp charts (ANN). I’ve already expressed my heresy about the full-length version - too bloated. For the same reason, I was also quite disappointed with the full length version of Jyukai’s Fate/Stay Night ED. In contrast, I’ve been enjoying the Girl’s High ED, incl., very much. For the immediate feature, I am looking forward to the release of the Black Lagoon OP, red fraction, and the Higurashi OP and hope that full length versions will not disappoint.

This has also spurred a couple of random thoughts about how factors other than the singer’s voice and accompaniment style affect whether or I enjoy, or not, anime OP and ED singles - particularly the visuals of the OP or ED sequence in the anime. Girl’s High 5

The animation quality for the first half of the episode bothered me a lot, the faces especially looked weirdly shaped. Some enjoyable yuri humour between Yuma and Ayano as well as Eriko’s antipathy to overly eager male teachers. Continue reading ‘Girl’s High 5′

Girl’s High 4

While it’s not like Magikano where fans started coming out of the closet after Ender’s bold declaration of fandom, I’m feeling pretty chuffed that animeblogging legend Jeff Lawson also enjoys this series for its stupid funniness. Continue reading ‘Girl’s High 4′

Nobody Loves Girl’s High

In stark contrast to Haruhi which came out of nowhere and made an excellent first impression, Jyoshi Kousei made a horrible first impression - gratituously emphasized pantsu fanservice, nerfing of various manga gags etc. Even LIME, which had subbed Eps 1 and 2, has suspended it indefinitely. Well, at least Erica and Mangaminx don’t hate it. The third episode was funny enough for me and I hope it will continue to improve. The above scene got my first big laugh of the episode when passers-by thought that the eight were planning some kind of orgy. Continue reading ‘Nobody Loves Girl’s High’
