Hinano made me do it!

Well, just the dessert bit from her hotcakes post. The okonomiyaki was due to Nabari no Ou. Luckily for me, Abeno could deal with both cravings with one hot steel table top!

Ordered a Spring special degustation-yaki with five mini pancakes with squid, black tiger prawns, organic beef, chicken and pork. GBP 18.50. Topped with dried bonito and seaweed flakes, they only needed a little soy sauce; the delicate flavours would have been overwhelmed by the sweet okonomiyaki sauce. Pricey but every thing was very good quality - from the batter flour, eggs, finely chopped carrots and cucumber to the exquisitely balanced miso soup with tender chopped leeks.

Hotcake with two mochi (goes whee!) inside. Whipped cream, green tea ice cream, red bean sorbet, organic butter and maple syrup. GBP 6.50.

I did have to wait for about 10 minutes before the teppan top was sufficiently hot for the staff to start cooking my meal. It’s been many years since I last had okonomiyaki (once in the Taka basement, the stall’s been taken over by a tonkatsu stall IIRC and the very first time in a Kyoto hill side street) so it was also a bit nostalgic. Overall, very satisfying meal though I did smell completely of okonomiyaki afterwards.

Interior.

Exterior.

Whoa!! 18.50, just to satisfy your curiosity, I think I’ll stick to regular Teppan-Yaki. :P

Athough I’m staring at the menu now - I can’t work out how it cost that much. Is there also a special menu?

I remember going back to the Takashimaya basement in search of that heavenly okonomiyaki stall, only to find it replaced by tonkatsu.

Shed I a single tear for the loss of the divine.

Teeif, yes, it was a special menu. I think it’s mainly due to the beef and prawns though.

Normal lunch is about half the price.

If anyone was made hungry by this post, then I can draw up my FEITO cape over my chin and go: ‘Be hungry! Be hungry! MWAHAHAHAHAAA!’
