Hinagikuism :: Manga Vol.8 Ch 79-82

V08C79. Hina’s stepmom makes herself scarce (beauty parlour then meeting up with Yukiji) in order to let our pinkhaired heroine enjoy a home-cooked dinner with just Hayate. They bump into each other as Hina prepares to shop for groceries but her attempt to confront Hayate about his relationship with Ayumu ‘Hamster’ Nishizawa is derailed when he asks her about what she likes to eat. And Hina’s favourite foods are curry and hamburgers - which are apparently common ‘favourite foods’ of guys. (What would be stereotypical girly favourite foods?) Their conversation continues to be at cross purposes, with Hayate behaving normally but Hinagiku becoming increasingly irritated due to the Hamster factor. But they still look couplely enough, ah light hearted high schoolers’ conversation; die couples die ;)

Anime piracy as a demand creation and sales generation phenomenon

Dr Nissim Kadosh Otmazgin, Kyoto University, recently published an article ‘Contesting soft power: Japanese popular culture in East and Southeast Asia’, International Relations of the Asia Pacific, Vol.8 No.1 (2007) which examines the relationship between Japanese cultural products and Japanese soft power. In the second section of the article, he discusses the proliferation of Japanese games, anime/manga, live action TV drama and karaoke in East Asia, concluding that:

Efferversence of fandom: Kyonko and MSLNFPFR

Hinano’s announcement that she has jumped on the Kyonko bandwagon was the nudge for a few thoughts, that have been fermenting away at the bottom of my mind’s barrel, to bubble to the surface. A couple of quick comments on the Kyonko phenomenon and Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS parodies of Nanoha’s ‘Full Power Full Release!’ (全力全開) catch phrase.

After Myssa Rei’s comment, I have been searching my feelings about the whole Kyonko thing. There were two things about it which did not particularly endear themselves to me. First, the girls get turned into guys. Yuki becomes Yuuki. orz orz orz orz
