Myssa: I think it's more to do with the fact they seem to WANT to keep it small - since there's no real reason that they couldn't, in theory, float a loan big enough to get somewhere like Himeya's large converted warehouse/apartment building. Especially not with their reputation; they draw customers to THEM, rather than having to actively go out to solicit like the other companies do.

They do seem to prefer to keep things small and intimate; otherwise I suspect Grandma could've handily expanded things, with her skills and reputation, if she was running several Apprentices through their paces during her time. And it's not like Alicia probably couldn't do the same, given her own (formidable) talents. Remember how unusual it was for a single undine to run off to start her own firm, and to have it compete directly with the big two (Orange Planet and Himeya)... and to keep it competing year in and year-out. Alicia's famous enough to be featured on magazines, and Akino was a great enough undine that even now people speak of her respectfully... sorta like how music lovers talk about the greats of the past even now, much less the musicians who held them in awe.

I just hope they have an OVA to finish things off, rather than trying to rush through the remainder of the manga in the few episodes we've got left this season. Although I fear that, should they do an epilogue, we may see more of Ai-chan... perhaps as an Apprentice, given how she's been written into the anime over the past few years. Although her appearance in one of the art books was a rather cute story by itself...

For some reason I'm under the impression that, as much as ARIA company seems to keep a 'One Master-One Apprentice' organizational structure (in light of the revelations in the second-to-the-last Navigation manga), responsibility (not necessarily ownership) of the company seems to pass from Prima to active Prima (since Grandma had two apprentices in her time as company head).

Maybe it's due to the company's size? Its physical infrastructure seems to prevent it from expanding (with just one small dockside base), unlike Himeya.
