The wave of excitement over Minami Ke’s second helping is palpable and I’m happy to conform to the general consensus. Before the literature review, just a note to say that I actually prefer asread’s chara design for Hayami-senpai, hope we’ll see some more crazy yuri antics from her soon! ;)

53RG10: ‘Okawari retains the same comedic values as the first Minami-ke!! ^_^’ Given how the first cour has built a foundation of familiarity, it’s great to see that Okawari’s humour hits the ground running.
CanYouMoe?: ‘With the “essence” comedy still there, first season fans will not be disappointed.’ I also liked how Chiaki’s background turns greyscale when she’s thinking.

For me, asread’s signature work thus far is SHUFFLE! and has been pointed at suguru’s dame dame and CanYouMoe? they seem to have particular stylistic elements like fan service, talking heads etc. The Touma facial close-up also reminded me of Krazy Kaede facial close-up and Rin’s horrified facial close-up (just before Primula asks: ‘Nani playing?’) in SHUFFLE! Memories 12.

The Touma/Mako-chan dynamic is great. Those two really made episode 1 enjoyable. It’s like the two of them work better and better each time out.
Touma really seems like a role that’s going to get her some notability in terms of what she can do with her voice other than singing and what’s more expected of her in anime roles (Nanoha, Bottle Fairy, Memories Off). I’m looking forward to hearing the range and versatility of her voice in Minami-ke, her deeper voice in Rosario + Vampire, and Shugo Chara.
I love the Touma/Mako-chan group, if only for the opportunities for breaking it allows like what happened with Fujioka. The figures… well, they screwed up - Haruka’s practically Mai Tokiha-class now if not a bit more, and even Kana, whose flat chest was the butt of a joke in the first season (Chiaki finds her skirt’s waistline too loose but the chest fits ‘just right’) is.. well, played up for fanservice here. Between that and how Kana refused to acknowledge Mako-chan without the hairclip… ah, bliss.

They didn’t completely lose the Bible Black Faces - look at how Chiaki reacts when she goes into ‘emo’ mode. They DID screw up the girls’ design some, though. At the same time, I will admit to breaking out into a Hosaka-style laugh after Fujioka’s brain broke.
