Hayate no Gotoku 18

This episode aired ages ago and many others have blogged about it. Well, I’ve only just seen it and this is my personal homage to the glory of Hinagiku swimsuit fan service.

Hina-chan is afraid of flying? And she’s not going for the beach class? I would have gone ‘f*cking hell I feel cheated’ nuts if I didn’t already know that there’d be plenty of fan service from the following blogs:

So that’s what Narrator-san meant when he added ‘Do not be worried’ after announcing that Hina-chan would not be going to Hakuou Island. But she still gets to appear! Ah~ Ahaha~~

LOL also at Nagi’s comment about how there are a lot of episode-unrelated eyecatchs and Hayate’s follow-on that screencappers will have keep our eyes peeled. That was a right Lucky Star moment that was where I feel the studio connecting with me.

All the screenies should lead to a larger image. This is the first of the attempted composites and it didn’t work out properly. orz

My excuse for the poor composite in this attempt was those accursed bubbles floating across the screen.

School mizugi!

I was, of course, completely over the moon when the MC girl addressed Hinagiku as ‘Oneechan’. Ah, sooo good.

Yes, Hina-chan, I will get round to your kendo episodes soon too!

So they did go on a second beach holiday. I assume that this didn’t involve flying as Hina-chan was there too.

This was a real pain to put together because of the credits but this is probably the only composite that I’m happy with. To be sure, it’s hardly perfect but the problems are less obvious than the previous two.

Now I’m wondering if Hinagiku has introduced me to the charms of DFC or that DFC isn’t a downer because it’s Hinagiku? For the later case, it would be just about as disturbing as this scene from this episode.

Why would Hinagiku’s (step?) sister Yukiji want to take pictures of Hina-chan’s butt? And why would Hinagiku mind? That’s one mighty fine behind.

And given Hinagiku is the type of girl who has fangirls, hope springs eternal for yuri. With Mentar pointing out that Miki might fit that bill, I can’t help but read the ED scenes as Miki sticking closely to Hina-chan, her eyes on her in a different way than her Baka Trio accomplices, heck, she even coincidentally-on-purpose ends up on the same bed as Hina-chan after the pillow fight. (Didn’t screencap that because Hina-chan’s head is cut in half X_X) :3

    Miki does seem to like Hina a LOT, both in the manga and the anime… and in the manga, chooses to spare Hina a bad experience. And she reacts much as Hina did when Hayate turned the same ‘I’ll protect you’ line on her when Hina did it to Miki.

    You also need the Ep 28-29 pairing to get more Revolutionary Girl Hinagiku shots.

    Also, I suspect the reason Hina minds the photos is because, knowing Yukiji, she’d sell them to get booze money… and Hina’s against ecchi stuff, so…

    Bro, you’re really scary when you obsess over a character. XD I fear now that my Hinagiku love can’t rival your fanatical worship of our pink haired beauty… wait a min, ain’t I in charge of raving about pink haired beauties around these parts? :P

    Haesslich, thanks for the info! Oh noes, Hina-chan toes the Mahoro line!? *runs off to hide my shining pages*

    Bro, scary!? THIS. IS. CHARA-WORSHIP!!!

    I suspect that the weightage for the pinkhaired aspect, for both of us, isn’t all that high. E.g. you’re not exactly a big fan of Lucky Star’s Miyuki and I can’t stand ZnT’s Louise.

    The funny thing is how popular Hinagiku already is without the character-building chapters from the manga. In fact, the manga addresses a couple of facets of Hina’s personality which aren’t visible in the anime so far - not visible at all, in fact. But THEY are what made Hina topple Tohsaka Rin from her Menty-worship top spot.

    Zyl, here’s a bit of homework for you, now that you joined the illustrious ranks of Hina shippers: Get these Hayate manga chapters which have important Hina presences and which have not been touched by the anime (all of them have been scanlated):

    Volume 5 (scanlated by Musashi)
    ===============================
    chapter 52

    Volume 6 (scanlated by Musashi)
    ===============================
    chapter 53
    chapter 54
    chapter 55 (important Miki chapter)
    chapter 56
    chapter 60
    chapter 61
    chapter 62
    chapter 63

    Volume 7 (scanlated by ID-Scans)
    ================================
    chapter 3 (_critical_ chapter, beginning of the Valentine’s day arc)

    Once you’ve gone through them, you’ll see that there’s a bit more to Hina than the anime showed us so far. And it’s just the beginning.

    Go for it!

    Mentar: You forgot most of Volume 8, where he ends up living with Hina due to some problems at home…. and then how Yukiji and others basically shake him down till he’s at wit’s end.

    There is a LOT that the anime leaves out. But, on the upside, she does get quite a bit more airtime than anyone save Maria…

    Haesslich: You should spoil a bit less ^_^;

    What I listed were the scanlated parts first.

    I had that in spoiler tags two posts ago, Mentar… ah well. Still, Hina’s gotten damned popular. Of course, she’s the very definition of ‘tsundere’ as it’s currently used, so that’s probably why - that and she’s less… haughty than Nagi. It’s hard to dislike her, really.

  9. 9 Mentar

    Personally, I wouldn’t even say that she’s really a Tsundere. The tsun part does exist in the manga, but it is very very weak. Hmmm.

    Well, let’s wait until Zyl has caught up.

    Mentar: End of Volume 6 suggests she is the current definition, which is ‘cold on the surface, warm inside’, as witnessed when she first gave Hayate a hard time over the freestyle marathon… and then ended up going in to rescue him, only to tell him that she wasn’t there for him when he tried to thank her for the rescue.

    She is, however, not at all pretentious when it comes to her interactions with others; a bit too self-sacrificing at parts (see Volume 7 and Volume 8) despite what she told Hayate about having to be selfish sometimes… but then again, she’s not pretentious or ‘haughty’. She knows where he’s been and how he feels, unlike Nagi who’s displayed an incredible lack of empathy or understanding many times in the manga, with a self-centered outlook which is very much in line with her upbringing… but which has kept her making any real headway with Hayate, on top of the whole age difference.

    Hina, on the other hand… well, we can see some flags triggered there, precisely because she knows how he feels, and he’s getting more clued into her background which is somewhat like his. They have marvelous chemistry, which I fear will not show up in the anime or later volumes of the manga.
