Fair bit of fighting in this episode but for me, as usual, it’s the chara and plot development that intrigued me. Annaberg was one of the more interesting tomogara; his project involving the acceleration of civilization through destruction, rather than the usual spiel of accumulating power for power’s sake, reminded me of Ommadon’s agenda in an old Western anime, The Flight of Dragons, though that was to cause humanity to become disillusioned with science which was becoming a threat to belief in magic.
Also interesting was how Sydonay did arubaito by playing bodyguard to other tomogara. I wonder if the Bal Masque had been formed yet. And did the client tomogara pay Sydonay with Hecate photos?
Despite being all Aneesan, Margery Daw never really did tickle my oneesama fetish very much. I’m think I was quite put off by how she charged into the series, battle-mania and all, particularly the vicious way she went after The Corpse Retriever even though he was widely acknowledged to harmless to the balance of the world. In any case, the elaboration of her back story did make her a more sympathetic and interesting character to me. The many eyes of Margery’s nemesis, the silver tomogara, was depicted reminded me a lot of Azazel, in The Sandman.
Oh, and given how Margery made a fuss about Sydonay ruining her white dress in Ep 8, I’m pretty amazed that Margery’s Marseilles suit reverted to spotlessness, despite all of the blood on it from her battle in this ep, when she returned to the East Edge bar. Flame Haze dry cleaning service?
Given that silver is the colour of Yuuji’s flame, it seems to imply that there is a link between him and this silver tomogara. IIRC none of the Flame Hazes or their masters thus far know the name of a tomogara with a silver flame. Hmmm… the plot thickens. I also couldn’t help but laugh at the way Yuuji clenches his fist in front of his crouch when concentrating on casting his fuzetsu. Looking forward to how Shana-tan Second is going parody this particular scene.
Next episode seems to move back to the harem track but also Yuuji’s family history.
This is the stuff that happens off screen that the writers don’t want you to know about!
I just thought of something even more worse now since after clenching his fist in front of his crotch so many times that silver stuff starting spewing everwhere
HAHHA joker
Oh these terrible silver spewing comments! Combined with the horrified look on Shana’s face, this is definitely ripe for Shana-tan parody.
Is there a name for that short little interlude that plays right before an eyecatch?
How do you know that Marjorie doesn’t buy a bunch of each outfit at a time?
Reminds me a lot of Mage: The Ascension from the oWoD (old World of Darkness). In it, magick was difficult to use because most people did not believe it existed. Depending on the cultural context of where it was used, the caster would incur points of Paradox for messing with the basic principles of reality. Once there was mass acceptance of magic existing, this was no longer the case.
