I haven’t been following Hayate no Gotoku for a while already. But Mentar’s praise and Stripey’s exuburent squeals piqued my curiosity and I can easily see her charm. Despite the fact that she is the younger sister of the crazy teacher chara, she’s no imouto-chara - her role as school council president and caring friend to Hayate makes her oh-so-oneechan. :D Plus she’s voiced by Shizuka Itou. :D

Ah yet so near and yet so far. This series would be so much more interesting if Nagi had more serious competition from Hinagiku. Competition results in jealousy and other hijinks that add spice to harem comedies and the lack of it, unless it’s Ai Yori Aoshi, makes for a rather lacklustre harem series - D.C. II being a case in point if what I see from people who have actually watched it is any indication. But now I am content in bask in Hinagiku’s glory whenever she has a chance to shine.

And shine she does. That’s a lot of guts to take on a giant robot with just a shinai (and Hayate, don’t ask ladies these types of questions like ‘Where did that shinai come from?’). I wonder how she’d do against Tama-chan?

And boy is she well-prepared. Bicycle shorts means no pantsu flash upskirt fanservice but she still manages to foil a very definitely male target acquisition and fire control system! In other news, leggings and bicycle shorts do somehow make great zettai ryouki on Hinagiku. :3

Producers, gimme the additional screentime that I so richly deserve or face the wrath of my bamboo blade!
Hinagiku banzai nano yo!
Sign me in the Hina fan club. =)
is there an unofficial Hina fanlisting or something like that? if there is, count me in. *lolz*
Count me in as well! Much love for 99% of the characters Shizuka Itou voices XD
we better create a fanlisting now. somebody volunteer? I’m willing to spread the love! and yeah, when school vacation comes i might provide some Hinagiku vectors. lolz promotions!
Hinagiku is all well an good, but I have more of a thing for Sakuya. Both characters seem more grounded compared to everything else, but Hinagiku seems a bit more impulsive, especially in her attempting to protect to school. Or maybe I’m just trying to find something else to say other than I love Kana Ueda’s Kansai-ben. :P
If she had green hair, she’d be perfect.
Hayata-kun, looks like you’ve just volunteered yourself. :P
TheBigN, I take it you like Hayate Yagami too then?
W4, I was thinking how weird Hinagiku would look with green hair but then I remembered that her elder sister (how can they even related!?) *does* have green hair! G~AN
Welcome to the club, Zyl. ;) She’s smart, she’s attractive, she’s got the tsun-tsun parts of Takako from OtoBoku without the annoying ‘better than thou’ attitude, Nagi’s dere-dere mode minus her selfishness, athletic skills to match her intellect, and she gets to do things, such as in Episode 8 of the manga…
… which involve cohabitating with Hayate for a bit, and they end up doing couple-like things that Nagi and Nishizawa could only DREAM about doing; they cook together, and apparently are charming enough as a duo that Hina’s stepmother is swept off her feet by the sight of the two of them… or that’s how I’m interpreting the RAW files.
Plus she has a fanclub among the girls… who see her in much the same way that a certain someone saw Utena. Speaking of which, she ends up cosplaying as a certain Tanaka Rie character later…
Oh… and one more reason to love Hinagiku - her Revolutionary Girl Utena outfit, with the bike shorts.

The link that got eaten. Hina as a Revolutionary Girl Butler.
Mmm… Hina. Revolutionary Girl Bicycle Shorts Butler.
Welcome to the club, which has at least 2000 member outside Japan and 3000 members inside, if you count the votes in popularity contests and the recent Korean Best Moe Tournament at which Hinagiku was crowned Champion.
… those spoiler tags didn’t work. Ah, now I see why. :P
“TheBigN, I take it you like Hayate Yagami too then?”
Maaaaaybe. :P But not as much as other characters from Nanoha.
I’m watching Rental Magica mostly for Honami, as another example. >_<
Yup. Feeling the Hinagiku love here too. Problem is, I stopped watching the fansubs after about episode 19 simply because I didn’t have time for everything and the episodes had begun to get rather random.
Which episode is the screencap from, Haesslich? I really may need to do some back-downloading…
Re: Hair color
It’s anime. Anything goes when it comes to hair color. Hinagiku could have a rainbow afro and wouldn’t get a second glance unless she’s out of character. >8D
Late to the party but not lacking in zeal! I think I’ll just skip to ep 33 and 34 :)
Do NOT skip earlier eps - there’s Hina swimsuit fanservice, Hina hotspring famservice, and more.
Haesslich, your kind advice on which episodes to zoom in on will be muchly appreciated. :D
[Edit: Went to have a look at Adun's episode summaries.]
Ep 10: Hinagiku cosplays a Teutonic Warrior! [Honourable mention for Maria's revealing black and white meido fuku.]
Ep 14: Hina-chan changing and Katsura sisters catfight!
Ep 16: Hinagiku kendo!
Ep 17: Hinagiku in meido fuku???
Ep 18: Hinagiku swimsuit service!!!!
Ep 20: Nagi imagines Hinagiku x Hayate love love?
Ep 27: Yaoi is too intense for summer school uniform Hina-chan / Utena uniform appears!
Ep 28: Hinagiku vs Hayate FIGHTO!
Wheee, I didn’t even see this thread in time! Gack!
Zyl: Read the manga. Seriously, do it. Beginning with tankoubon 7, a critical long-range arc begins, dubbed the “Hina-Hamster” arc by fans. Basically, over the range of the upcoming volumes, Hina will play Nagi against the wall. Her development with Hayate is by far the most important and complex one (though I still can’t see more than a 5% upset chance for her in the end). Tank 10 has one of the most touching and romantic scenes ever, and even now in tank 13, my fanboyism is unbroken.
You want serious competition? All in the manga. If there were any justice in the world, it would already be over…
Mentar, thanks for the advice! Sigh, it’s still hard to break the convention of the ‘promised’ or ‘first’ girl.
Zyl: The problem is that Hayate sees Nagi as a kid… which means she’s out of the running at the moment, romance-wise. Hina, on the other hand, is the same age as him, and Maria’s a year older. This puts them both in the ‘dateable’ category in his mind, unlike Isumi, Sakuya, or Nagi; who are all ‘kids’ to him, and thus not eligible for any romantic attentions since he’s not a lolicon.
Nishizawa’s an awkward case - he’s turned her down, but she’s still pursuing him as has been made obvious in the anime and the manga. She’s not given up on him, and this makes things… difficult for him, since she’s cute and nice, but he’s too busy with handling business to give her much attention, as he’s already said to her previously. Nagi and Nishizawa see each other as rivals, to be sure, but they’ve both (at least from my POV, based on the last few volumes) been relegated to ’second fiddle’ status compared to the other girls, but they’re not out of the running yet.
