Bamboo Blade 3

The kendo club goes to buy new equipment, a new character Saya is introduced and Miya Miya plots violent retribution against the two seniors who were bullying her boyfriend.

Very sweet how Tama-chan also bought a new chest protector, even though she already had her own, because this was the first time she had joined a club; she wanted to do buy the same type of thing together with everyone. Quite funny how the teacher manages to play on her love of justice (anime style) by assigning members with colours; so cute how Tama-chan sparkled as she was assigned red.

Recurring joke about how the rest of the club doesn’t trust the teacher person with the club funds. Also we knew that if the teacher won the bet with his sempai (which is the foundation of the 5 v 5 female kendo match), he would get a year’s free edo-style sushi from said sempai’s father. Now we’re told that if he loses, he has to hand over the trophy he won at a big kendo competition when they were both still in high school.

On to the main focus of this episode, Miya Miya.

The first of many Miya Miya flips. I can appreciate that this arises out of love out of her boyfriend but the love/dere dere has twisted and mutated into something approximating to an illness and/or a split personality, though IMHO Kaede Fuyou of SHUFFLE! is still waaay scarier.

And the rest of the club members also see the dark side of Miya Miya. Her boyfriend seems to be the only one who is oblivious. I wonder if Miya Miya is actually aware of and/or in control of her own state changes too?

I suspect she isn’t and that it’s a spontaneous change in reaction to stimuli. Dark side emerges when thoughts of revenge surface but there’s also another side that suppresses it when her boyfriend appears.

She’s been assigned the colour pink. Though that background colour is probably the most fitting.

She lies to her boyfriend that she’s got to go for her part-time job but goes back to the kendo equipment shop to buy a wooden sword. Which she plans to use to ambush her targets by the river. She was also using a nail to carve something into the wooden sword but not sure what was written on it. But her ambush is foiled by the high speed arrival of manic bicycling Saya who had been butchering her fiction with a pen knife and messaging Kirino with a line that said she (Saya) was dead.

Alas, not yuri.

Miya Miya hurls Saya’s bicycle into the river, soon followed by Saya. Her voice changed into a really harsh one but without the quivering edge that makes Krazy Kaede the yandere supreme and psycho-moé queen still, particularly as her dark side powers come from jealousy rather than thirst for vengeance. Still, it would have been fitting for some Higurashi BGM to come on at the end of that scene.

Miya Miya’s back-and-forth flipping as she introduces the next episode. Best line: Viva violence! LOL

A lot of deviations from the manga in this episode… but some are for the better, I think, since they never tackled the issue of MiyaMiya wanting revenge for her boyfriend in the manga, a plot hole in my opinion, given her base personality.

Hopefully, they don’t jump the shark this early in the series. ^^; Ep04 looks to be back on track.

    Hmm…

A year of food reward with only a high school trophy risked? GOOD DEAL.

You’re just giving up the trophy, not really the official title. And you’re getting the chance to put together a hot female kendo team. This is a classic low risk, high reward situation, as long as Miya Miya doesn’t end up killing anybody.

  3. 3 Kurogane

They really hid MiyaMiya’s yankee background in the anime. In the manga , you get to know of it way earlier. I don’t think she flipped that much though.

    Also <3 for Tama-chan~~

lol this episode was way too awesome. I didn’t see it coming at all (haven’t read the manga). Crazy personality changes can make a girl so much more hot!

Agree with Kurogane. MiyaMiya may not exactly be a yandere coz well… That evil side of her seems to be the real and complete package as far as i can tell from reading the Manga. Her sweet side is a cover up and she’s conscious of that. i suppose her affections for Eiga caused her to behave the way she did as his girlfriend, but we may get to see more of her natural self with the other characters, especially with her loggerhead partner, Saya. Oh well, guess you can call her a superficial yandere. Now, where is that pangolin? :)

I always sort of had this impression Miya-Miya beat people up for their lunch money before she met Eiga…

Her insta-shift personality modes are kinda surreally funny mind you.

Wow, sorry but I have to disagree with you again, Dav (right after the yuri thing - ▼ Show

    )

She’s no yandere, at least not by the time of the latest raws. We simply had no chance to find out, because her affection and devotion to Eiga-kun is 100% genuine.

But what makes you think that “her sweet side is a cover-up and she’s conscious of it”?

I’m sooooo looking forward to ep4, which will contain a marvellous scene. See the deathly frightened Saya? Make some guesses what could happen there :->

  8. 8 Watchman

Miya and Saya bouncing off each other is always awesome and win. ^_^

…it occurs to me in passing that Kirino’s probably the most normal of the girls in the club. And that’s saying something…

I recently found a “Scary Anime Girls” picture of Katsura (School Days), Rena (Higurashi), Nanoha (Nanoha) and Kaede (Shuffle). I think the chilling effect would be the same after replacing Nanoha with Miyamiya.
