LOL at Tsukasa’s ComiKet trauma. Not really as serious as Chiyo’s Yukarimobile psychological scarring though. I think I spent about the same amount as Konata during my three days with the toll evenly divided between doujins, goods (plushies and tote bag) and t-shirts.
I really did see anime-themed canned drinks in Akiba’s Animate and Tora no Ana but didn’t manage to take a picture as they were too close to the watchful eyes of the counter staff. But as this was Japan, it wasn’t in the humongous 1000ml format but a much smaller size, about a fifth?
Aside: I thought that a lack of internet access was cruel and unusual punishment but it’s even crueler to have a ADSL connection that you know is working right in front of you but that the old BT Voyager 105 modem’s driver isn’t compatiable with Vista. orz And then having to spend 24 hours trying to figure out why the replacement BT Voyager 2110 can communicate with the laptop but not connect with the internet (turned out that my ISP requires the use of specific primary and secondary DNS addresses). Ironies of ironies was that most of this information about troubleshooting your connection was online and the technical helpline for home broadband was only available during office hours: Go figure - not that I could understand the fellow’s Midlands accent anyway when I got through. Eventually managed to get all the necessary information by going down to campus and using my university’s wireless network (the computer labs and library were closed on a summer holiday Sunday). Actually I could have moochd off a neighbour’s open and unsecured wireless network but it’s not always on and definitely didn’t think it was appropriate to bt anime via his wifi. :P
Apologies for the lack of update. Have been raging against deadlines in a last burst of fire, currently travelling without reliable access to the internet.
Amazingly, yesterday in Istanbul, I met a teenage Japanese girl yesterday who is a big anime fan. She was definitely envious of the ComiKet cosplayers whose lovely images I still have in my camera and even said that she wants to dress up, gothic lolita-style, but that her mom forbids her from going to Harajuku!
