Not being a tech person I tend to go yare yare, like Kagamin above, when WP announces yet another upgrade. But I was encouraged by how the Sea Slugs! WP 2.3 upgrade went relatively well; the final push came when I learnt from AnimeLife that the K2 RC1 didn’t break (no customizations except for the header CSS, link colour and list of allowable HTML in comments) and that ELA has been modified to cope with the new thingamajig. Have updated most of my plugins too (spoilers are now enclosed with
text
). Do let me know if anything is wonky.
In any case, while searching for a screencap to accompany this post, I thought a bit about my favourite Lucky Star scenes and they were, in ascending order, (3) when Kagami lures Konata to her house using Tsukasa’s cookies (wait, that didn’t sound right :P), (2) Kagami’s horror turning into being happy for Konata at the cosplay cafe and (1) when Kagami was Konata’s Prince at the Haruhi Gekisou. I’m detecting a pattern here… ;)
I’m surprised that Gotouza-sama’s appearance didn’t make your top three.
I think the pattern might be the trail of Kagami x Konata awesomeness. And if that’s the case, I’d also like to add that I loved the scene where Kagami gives Konata chocolates for Valentine’s Day. ^^
WP. Augh, decided not to use widgets. The Recent Comments function looks fugly compared to Brian’s Latest Comments. I can’t believe I forgot to how to call the calender function via <?php get_calendar(); ?>!
W4, Gotouza-sama was fun but I enjoy L*S most for the character interactions rather than the cameos. Which leads me nicely onto…
Neo Horizon, exactly. I realized that the scenes that were my personal favourites were Kagami showing understanding of how Konata ticks and then doing something that showed her understanding in a nice way. Of course, what makes the whole Kagami x Konata dynamic even more interesting is Kagamin’s tsundere attitude towards Kona-chan. :D
Zyl, one of the reasons I decided to drop K2 is that a lot of the cool stuff in K2 can make it hard to maintain it through WP updates. With that said, the way ELA and Brian’s Latest Comments work with K2 is soooo elegant, but when you see how awesome Widget support is, it makes sidebar management so easy. I think K2 has some kind of non-standard widget support that they claim is better than the widget support bundled with WP, but that just means it will probably break with every update T__T.
There is probably a way to format Get Recent Comments to look like Brian’s Latest Comments, but I haven’t bothered to try.
Kabitzin, thanks for the feedback. BTW I still haven’t managed to get K2’s custom header uploader to work properly so still using the CSS workaround. Not really a pain anymore since I just can copy and paste the old CSS files.
K2’s drag and drop functionality for widget side-bar management is nice but the native ones for value-add features (like recent comments) are just soooo ugly. Haven’t experimented with other themes so I haven’t got real basis for comparison…
