When Erica’s review pointed out that Milano and Alita would have kissed at the end if they were a straight couple, I agreed and immediately thought of the above scene. But given BEE TRAIN’s penchance for yuri subtext, I was expecting a little more and a tad disappointed that they had nerfed the scene from the end of the manga where Milano asks to share Alita’s bed.
Even though there’s no definitive ‘They are a couple’ moment (e.g. for StrikerS, there was the Big Bed scene though for me it was when Mari thought that Vivio was Nanoha x Fate’s natural born daughter), their mutual concern for each other’s safety and willingness to put self in harm’s way to save the other was amply showcased in Ep 5 too shows a very strong bond at the very least. The way that Milano says ‘Himesama’ can be pretty spinge-tingly-in-a-good-way though. :P
At least it would have been nice for them to end that sunset scene with Milano and Alita fooling around and then transiting/finishing with this photo.

I blame BEE TRAIN for having the both of them kicked out of the castle during Milano’s distressful times. They didn’t have the chance. However I must admit, I still like that scene’s replacement in Ep 5 where Alita brushes Milano’s tears and comforts her… That was really sweet for someone who used to be a hard bitten bounty hunter. Bah, they should have used the caravan. :p

Agreed, though I still prefer the Manga’s version where Milano sticks to calling her “Alita-sama”. Milano is the only one who calls her that while the rest glued to “Hime-sama” or “Master”. Hey wait… “Master” isn’t so bad either.
All in all, I enjoyed the numerous yuri subtext treats that BEE TRAIN dished out to us, but noticing how they toned down moments which would have been deemed deep, I felt slightly disappointed with the ending as well. Made me wished that the series should be continued, but hopefully by another studio, although it’s not possible now that it has ended. Sigh…… Someone please make a doujin!! :3
