Yeah, well, I take back everything I said about heavyhanded references. I just loved this cosplay cafe scene so much especially how Aya Hirano switches from her Konata to Haruhi voice and back.

KyoAni just rules. Loved this episode and I’m sure I’ll love it even more when I get to see it with subtitles and understand more than a quarter of what’s being said as opposed to the general gist of what’s going on… As far as I’m concerned, they can go to town as much as they like with the cross referencing, simply because it’s so much fun. Fun for them, for us… Who is losing out here? ^_^
You’re going to comiket, Zyl? I’m going to be in Japan while it’s on, and am debating whether or not to risk it. Slightly worried that a linguistically challenged (in Japanese at least) English girl might end up getting overwhelmed by the sheer size of the event. Is it worth it?
Forget Minami - she needs someone like me. ;) Seriously, for all of those people who were complaining about the Haruhi inserts… this was almost perfect - a COMPLETE Haruhi insert/parody, right down to using Konota for the Haruhi. And the dancing.
Seriously, for heavy handed references, this is quite good - way better than Hayate, for example.
Haruchin, from what I’ve been told, the Comiket queue and morning crowd is not something to be taken lightly! Personally I’m going to try for at least one morning queue but it depends on which day the circles that I’m interested in will be having their booth.
If you’re interested in just having a look and not mad-grabbing doujins, a visit after 11am might be less scary. I think Shingo and the Heisei Democracy gumi might be doing a gathering as is Danny Choo (links on my sidebar).
Haesslich, ah so you are the Yukari Takara typu. ;) I’ve lost interest in Hayate no Gotoku at the moment but I’m guessing that their referencing is in quite a different mode - might not be directly comparable with L*S??
Zyl: Let’s just say the reference is in there… but that’s all it does. It’s not organic to the story, and feels really odd as a result.
The voice-switching/cosplay cafe segment had me laughing quite a bit. Talk about references done right, even if they’re more overt than covert.
The huge Haruhi scene was very well done…it didn’t feel intrusive at all. Plus, it’s always a pleasure to see Yuki in Lucky Star moe-blob style. That made buying that 6-inch figure of her so worth it. And then Patricia Martin came right out of the Mikuru camouflage. O_o
So they DID have development stuck inside that reference.
I couldn’t read Kagami’s face as the dance progressed. She seems to turn from exasperation to something in the middle and then acceptance that Konata’s having fun. I couldn’t see the click and stuck myself in a lull until Patricia Martin came in.
Minami = the Sakaki that couldn’t exactly become Sakaki.
Yutaka = needs cat ears. For some reason she’s so much cuter than Chiyo despite being a big clone of her on other aspects.
this is one of my favorite episodes!! konata and haruhi xD really cute and funny….and i think the wife in konataxkagami relationship is kagami hehe xD
