Lucky ☆ Star 14

The yuri bait has landed! Yutaka x Minami 4TW!

Yutaka is proving to be unexpectedly adorable! Love her shocked / despairing little sounds.

I have say that I prefer their middle school uniforms over the Ryouo ones.

More cute Yutaka sounds. ~uuu

Shiori-type moé? Yet I find Yutaka to be more likeable than Shiori… mainly because she isn’t flirting around with a harem lead but with a tall, silent green-haired girlfriend instead. ;)

If you think Miyuki’s mom is a desperate housewife, just wait till she starts hitting on Minami! LOL

Shop drama. I feel your pain, Konata! And Kagami x tie = GG.

Boke needs tsukkomi.
Did some one call for their deserved comeback?

You told her about our little trysts!?

Being small-sized, sickly, perpetually absent and childish-looking is only good if your type is Souichiro Izumi or other assorted lolicons…

Pouts when she is called childish. Which makes her look even more childish! LOL

Even chibi-Kagamin looked reliable and reliably tsundere! Watch those twin tails grow!

Yui-neesan is my happy-go-lucky hard-drinkin’ idol.

Onee pressure. Konata seems to respond to peer and societal expectations about family roles quite strongly. More strongly than Yui-neesan for instance. Which suggests that anime/manga/games are important hobbies of hers but that she’s still socialized in a fairly conventional way.

Minoru Shiraishi is going to get a huge following if he’s not careful. LOL

On the one hand, I’m glad to see more of the cast from the OP making an appearance…but on the other hand, more Yutaka screentime probably means less Kagami screentime OTL

At least Yutaka has twintails–although that reminds me, when I was in Japan back in November, my wife commented not one person we saw had a ponytail…I guess twintails > impassable wall > ponytails…

So Yukata = Shiori Sayuri ???

Zzz… not likely. For one, Yutaka’s not sick - just small and almost as bad as Konota is in terms of fitting a certain stereotype. For another, she’s not dying or dead. ;)

Chibi-Kagamin was pure win, though - we need more Kagamin, and more Miyuki for that matter. Bit of a shame that we won’t see as many appearances with those two, now that Yutuka’s in the place.

suguru, re: Yutaka crowding out Kagami screen-time, the OP itself makes fun of how Yutaka and Minami practically take over the manga in Vol.4… But I think we’ll have a different light shared on the Kagami x Konata friendship when it’s contrasted against Kagami’s relationship with Misao.

    Zzz…, ahaha~~

Haesslich, Yutaka may not be sick but she is sickly. And ironically, I think we’ll be seeing more of Miyuki’s mom, just as we’ve been seeing more of Konata’s dad.

    yuri must come!!! n_n

It’s really interesting how Yui and Konata’s dad found someone to marry. Too bad we never get to meet their significant other. The Hiiragi household seems to be the most normal of all the families.

  8. 8 Watchman

I dunno, Yui seems nice enough. Her abundant reserves of exuberant and unguided energy might be a little tiring to deal with though.

…that said my money’s on *that* couple having gotten aquainted in the course of one of her epic Bar Treks… -_-

We know Konata’s parents were childhood friends (que Genshiken reference: “You mean you’re a childhood friend character ?!”), so presumably her mom knew Souichirou well enough to recognize whatever positive qualities he might have (had) under the very thick layer of nerdiness they were concealed under. Although Konata is clearly rather sceptical of any such existing…

Mind you, we don’t actually know what he was like before becoming a young widower and single father; he may well have been a fair bit less off the deep end before that personal tragedy.

I have to confess that whenever I rewatch that photo album scene in Ep 10, I always think of Stripey x Nauzron (who have just gotten married - gratz). Therefore Souichirou getting married isn’t all that strange to me. :P And I second what Watchman said about Yui - she’s quite a reckless person but she also seems to family-oriented and kind.

And we never get to meet Miyuki’s dad either. There are some pretty hilarous 4komas in the manga where Miyuki’s mom is angry with Souichirou for describing Miyuki as moé LOL

On another note, I found the brief Tsukasa and Konata “alone time” pretty interesting. Reminds you that it was originally just her Konata befriended, and says interesting things about where those two are on the same wavelenght. The rarity - if not outright novelty - value doesn’t hurt either. (That the practical difference made by Kagami’s absence largely amounts to Konata playing single-player is not of great importance.)

Also, is it just me or does Konata sound vaguely like a jilted lover when she learns Kagamin’s off somewhere with classmates ? ^.^

Kagami was presumably born sullen. Bet you she was one of those babies who give people long, intense and vaguely distrustful stares and spends a lot of time looking into the middle distance deep in thought. And starts bossing people around as soon as she learns to speak. (Following that train of thought Tsukasa would have then been of the bright sunny puppy-dog variety; the resulting mental image of the two together as tiny tots is pretty omega kawaii…)

Yutaka and Minami are made of digital awesome and Chuck Norris win already. And that despite the latter having had a total screen time of like two minutes thus far… hardcore, man. d-^_^-b

Having suddenly gotten a de facto little sister (who seems to idolize her a bit to boot) appears to have suddenly brought out Konata’s responsible streak (and likely given her a minor satori concerning how “big sister” Kagami is put together - to whom in any case she duly goes to whine about the pressure, true to form…). I’d imagine her logic went roughly so that while it’s purely her own business what she does with her life, giving her impressionable young cousin weird ideas (and potentially screwing up her grades on the side, as Yutaka probably doesn’t share Konata’s ability to reliably “wing it” in exams) isn’t really okay. Konata at times seems to be downright painfully aware of how little she has in common with the majority of her peers after all.

If they’ve been in regular contact Konata might actually be more of a sister-figure to Yutaka than Yui to a degree by the virtue of being around the same age. Yui is after all something like a decade older than Yutaka, in essence of a different generation entirely and living in a whole different world, while Konata only has, what, two or so years on her and is hence fundamentally easier (or even possible in the first place) to relate to.

    Meh we need more yuri
