Lucky ☆ Star 8

Given how Konata tends to see the world as an extension of anime, manga and games, I sometimes feel that she sees Kagami as a validation of that worldview - given how Kagami fits the tsundere archetype. In any case, I tend to find Kagami’s dere side (sick visit, goldfish) to be scarier than her tsun (normal) side. -_-;;

Does the bread-eating race have some kind of stigma attached to it? I recall it was Osaka’s Must Do event, so is it something reserved for the class dunce? Did Kagami volunteer for it? Or is she merely cross that Konata is taking another dig at her appetite and constant dieting?

Konata also seems to enjoy teasing Kagami about her (unfulfilled) desire for a boyfriend - like during the pre-summer episode when she said that it was pointless to diet because there was no one for Kagami to show off in her swimsuit to. This time I suppose she was referring to a lack of a dance partner for the post-athletics festival bonfire dance. Ah, good memories of Kaorin’s dance with Sakaki. Would have been soooo good if Kagami had to dance with Konata. :3

I’m sure the ‘ladies should be elegant’ is an anime reference but I don’t think it’s MariMite… Is this the female parallel to ‘Boys, be [ambitious]‘?

That was pretty graceful in its own strange way. Such poise! And even though Kagami was the last one to get there, she was the only one to get her teeth into the anpan.

Because she conforms to the over-powered fierce characterisation of her tsun side?

I really laughed out loud at an unscathed Kagami casually eating the anpan. Personally, it was almost as funny as the scene where Chihiro was still crying after the scene transition when she confessed to being tutored by Chiyo rather than the other way round in the first episode of Azumanga.

So how would her jump distance be measured in this case?

Ah, sweet Tsukasa. I always hated music lessons in school. Especially the dreaded recorder. Why the hell did they even bother? The curriculum designers must have had some kind of chummy relationship with the people selling those fake flutes.

And it’d be nice if Kagami could have some Konata too. :3

Indeed. I wonder how Kagami would react if Konata seriously started coming on to her? Must get Konata to start watching more Kannazuki, Yamibou etc.

The only time Konata’s been really vulnerable to Kagami - the need to be understood in her love for her hobbies. This is probably Kagami’s more realistic and likeable dere side as she tries to reassure Konata.

So Kagami *did* end up going to Gamers with Konata and probably did give her points to Konata as a sign of their ‘friendship’ - a perfect anime/manga date! :3

‘Ladies/Girls should be more elegant.’ is said alot by Lumiere from Kiddy Grade, who’s voiced by Hirano Aya, too.

Kagami is trying too hard to get a boyfriend and be everything that Konata isn’t, and that’s the only reason why she’s not getting hit on. Her attempt to look like she has a lot of fighting spirit and “coolness” (you can see it from her casually eating the anpan) totally backfires on her.

I find it a bit weird that Konata wishes for people to understand her hobbies when she just declared that she doesn’t care about friends last episode (during the e-mail scene), I was quite sure that by now, Konata would have realized that an otaku asking for social understanding from close peers is almost impossible, and Kagami would be the one more desperate for understanding.

As a sidenote, I wonder if you’ve seen this.

That’d explain that one, certainly. Odd casting meta-reference jokes 4tw. d^_^b

Zyl: given her likely identity-crisis issues, poor Kagami would probably be mortified if she learned you find her occasional “awwwwwwww” moments scarier than her bitchy default state… -_-

She seems to be pretty good at the Stiff Upper Lip recovery though. “Now, I eat the anpan!”
(…and I wonder how many will get that reference…)

But… no comment on Tsukasa’s rare flash of sibling envy ?

…have you seen the next couple episodes yet, Zyl? They deliver.

Claies, yeah - trying too hard can be scary though just what is ‘too hard’ varies enormously. :P Many thanks for the links to the post for the videos - really tearjerker stuff! Amazing what a skilled media person can do. Have just seen the most recent eps - don’t look down on ginger!!

Watchman, it’s not so much the ‘awww’ moments per se but how she flips from that to her default and then back that’s scares me. LOL And probably she just really likes anpan.

re: Tsukasa’s oneechan flash - the thing that tickled me most was that even Tsukasa herself was keenly aware that the fantasy was just so wrooooong. Haha!
